Tree Saddle Hunting - Best New Climbing Sticks Rated
Просмотров 52 тыс.3 года назад
Sectional sticks are the most popular tree-climbing method among saddle enthusiasts because sticks are safe, effective, easy to use, and you only have to hang three or four of them to reach heights of 17-22 feet if you add a lightweight climbing aider (see sidebar on page 66). And the current selection of quality sticks has never been so diverse, with a wide variety of step-to-step distances an...

Tree Saddle Hunting - Best New Platforms and Ring of Steps
Просмотров 24 тыс.3 года назад
We all need a spot to place our feet in life … and even more so when saddle hunting. The two options are a platform or ring-of-steps. For longer hunts, platforms are more comfortable and most familiar. Ring-of-steps are lighter and easier to pack for shorter-duration hunts and long hikes. Unlike a treestand, both options allow for 360-degree shooting around the tree. Here's our best-of-the-best...
Tree Saddle Hunting - Best New Climbing Aiders
Просмотров 33 тыс.3 года назад
A climbing aider is a device that you use in conjunction with a stick that helps you gain more height per stick, but at the addition of very little weight to the stick setup. An aider can provide one or two more steps per each stick section, thereby greatly increasing height potential when needed and allowing you to carry fewer total sticks to gain a specific height. Example: If you have a stic...
Tree Saddle Hunting - Best New Stick Attachment Options
Просмотров 9 тыс.3 года назад
The array of ultra-strong, easy-to-use, light and quiet aftermarket stick attachment options has never been more creative and compelling. The noisier, heavier, harder-to-conveniently-wrap-on-your-sticks metal buckle and strap is anathema for today’s mobile tree saddle hunter. After the bulky, potentially noise-generating buckle and strap came 8mm low-stretch climbing rope wrapped around the Ver...

New subscriber. You should show how to utilize the S.M.A.R.T. one stix method. There's a lot to unpack here. You've got to see this all new, never been done before, technique. It's SAFE and effective. About a half a dozen new techniques and gear ideas. They all rock! Plz leave a comment. Thank you.
Avoid dry leaves and twigs in the forest😂
Well said
What is the make and model of the release shown in the video?
Hunting stud! thanks for the video Randy
So the benefit of this release is practicing shooting with it all summer long and before season in camp and the. Not using that release when your actually hunting unless you “ have time” what a joke
I love my Spyder 30. It’s a deer slayer.
I thought proper setup was the last 1" and a half of draw it should raise. Less contact the better
Curious how you tied off and made your aider from the tubular webbing Thanks !
Part 2: how to grow wings so you can avoid stepping on leaves or the ground at all, and move undetected through the woods.
You speak so highly of a back tension release but use a trigger release when you hunt? I’m confused…
Facts
Wow that aider is genius. One aider for all sticks. Brilliant
In order for arrow to stay on rest longer means shorter cord which means more pull on lower cable which throws of cam timing and effects back wall
Jesus Christ the seasons going to be over by the time you get up that tree😂
Oh ye, oh ye of the blaspheme... see the reply to @seanbrennan3824 below...and step into the Light. WWJD ? -- he'd be in a saddle I'm sure!
I bought a second, identical climber for a different property...it is that good of a product! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs I have had the first one for 10 years and only have had to replace the plastic chain covers when they wear out from climbing pine trees. I don't use the climbing harness and strap that comes with this product since I already have upgraded that for comfort. I do save it for a guest though. It works fine, but takes a lot of work to strap in compared to aftermarket harnesses. I will buy this climber again when my daughter is old enough to climb. It is a very safe product and well designed.
I agree with this 100% I just bought a 75% let off mod for my halon 32 because I now shoot and hunt with back tension. I have been shooting a 2009 pse xforce lately because I feel I am more consistent with it than the halon 32 and my Hoyt ventum 33. I realized that it is the lower let off that helps me shoot better
I'm not sure why this is becoming a trend. It looks like the most uncomfortable, loud, bulky set up I've seen in my life! 10 minutes to get up a tree? I'll pass. It's about 30 seconds in my stands.
I think you're missing the point, Sean. It's not a binary choice. You can't leave a stand up on public land in most states. Hauling in a fixed-position stand a is noisier and heavier (but I still have them hung all over the property I hunt in proven areas/funnels). Climbers only work on trees that are relatively straight, have no major limbs up to 15 feet, and are somewhere between 8-20" in diameter. Not only are saddles super-comfortable -- they are far lighter, quieter AND ADAPTABLE TO THE MOST TREES SIZES AND CONFIGURATIONS. I don't use a saddle on every hunt. But on public land, friends property, out-of-state hunts, and when I need to be in a tree that's in the right spot but won't allow either a climber or fixed-position stand -- A SADDLE CANNOT BE BEAT. You comment from a place of ignorance. I've actually used all the methods. It take's me ten minutes to climb because I'm slow, methodical and safe. How long does it take you to set up a fixed-position stand? I'll gladly take that extra time to be in the perfect spot to ambush my target buck. And to answer your first question, it's trending because it works.
😂😂😂 so much stuff. Couldn’t even watch the video .if he falls he’s either going to hang himself or get pierced buy some piece of metal gear hanging off him
Oh c'mon Paul. You actually did watch the vid, commented and earned us a view. Saddle hunting is by far one of the safest elevated methods, because you're always attached to the tree. You literally cannot fall if done correctly. However, saddles aren't for everyone. A man's got to know his limitations, and you obviously know yours 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the view and comment and good luck to you this Fall!
And I really enjoy your channel "Paul"...
12” is short and stubby LOL
12 inches are usually black in color to..
The entire shotIQ course in 1:38sec. Wow
There are a ton of Saddle videos out there now, but this is still by far the best system of products put together. I've adjusted it a little bit to quiet things down a bit and make things a bit easier for me. That said, this is the most well thought out system ever! I am a fool for doing things the absolute best/most efficient and you have it here Sir!
It is amazing how much the overall saddle equipment has evolved and improved in the few short years since we published this Tbowie13. Saddles, ropes, safety mechanisms, sticks, aiders, platforms, storage devices, carrying systems -- all lighter, quieter and more convenient. The fundamentals demonstrated here are just that, the blueprint to get people started. Glad you enjoyed it and good luck on your saddle hunting journey!
@Mike Carney I hear ya Mike. I spent a small fortune on everything a few years back, so I'll wait a few more years before I upgrade. The system you made was/is awesome. Between keeping up on long range shooting and all the new fishing gear and so on, my saddle equip is good for now. 🤣
Love this series of videos, shot, concise and straight to the point. Thanks. Now I know how you looked when you were young! No doubts the kid on the video is your son!
Putting that aider around his neck while climbing makes me imagine an accidental fall and that loop of an aider getting caught and hanging him from his neck. Maybe try just putting it over a shoulder.
Maybe Clint. Either way, I am not going to fall far given my lineman's belt, but it's never a bad idea to play it doubly safe.
Has anyone bought the bow press from total vise? Thoughts?
I am new to this style and had 1 question. I have been told you need to attach your tether line before stepping onto the platform. Is this true or can I do as the video shows?
It's a safer practice to attach your tether FIRST before transitioning onto your platform Shane. And I should have demonstrated that here.
@@mikecarney1449 thanks for this information and video. Hard to hit something like this perfect and appreciate the information and guidance as I dive into this style of hunting. Once again great video!!
Awesome video, thnx!
I hunt in the back country in Wyoming for elk. I like the idea of the tree saddles, years ago there was a product called tree suit. They went out of business. My question is instead of carrying 7 pounds of tree sticks why not get a set of tree spikes that linemen use?? We hunt around 7 miles back in and even if we have horses we have limited room. You use a linemans rope and the spikes eliminates extra time to set up and weight. The spikes only go in 1/2 inch.
Many people do indeed use spikes, but I find them a challenge, especially when transitioning to my platform. This vid does a great job showing a true pro apply the technique: ruclips.net/video/7k4oBD62v1U/видео.html
One set of hawk helium minis at 100$ Price tag and u get4 one stick set ups . Can’t be beat and the sticks work excellent with the supplied daisy chains .
One of the best demo video's I've seen! Dang good job!! 👍 I've been saddle hunting going on 6 yrs and of course still tinker with the odd thing, but for the most part I've got my system dialed. I believe repeatability and consistency is key to efficiency and safety. Just curious if anything in your system has evolved or changed since this video? Climbing / decending methods, style of platform, etc? Thanks again!
It has changed, but mostly due to the newer saddles styles and the super-lightweight sticks now available from Tethrd and others. I also now attach my tree tether before transitioning onto the platform. Still constantly experimenting on how to pack/organize my kit for the hike in as well to be more quiet and snag free, Josh.
Very interesting and thank you. Of course this is all done in the dark. I'm 50, ot sure older guys have the upper body strength?
Well, I'm North of 50 and I don't find it anymore challenging physically that setting up a hang-on or using a climber. Keep your stick spacing reasonable and I think you'll find it fairly reasonable to accomplish. One of the methods founding fathers, John Eberhart, is north of 65 and he's still going strong. As long as you commit to practicing your climbing technique and gear sequence, climbing in the dark is no different than other elevated climbing methods. Give it a try and good luck -- it's a fun learning process and it will provide you a world of new tree opportunities to take advantage of!
That’s awesome. Just getting into saddle hunting myself so any information I can find is helpful. I like you’re setup
Excellent and informative video, thank you very much
Penetrate the woods
First class video. Did you try a smaller attached aider before going with this method?
The advancements in aiders -- both permanently attached and moving -- have advanced so much since the filming of this. Google the subject and you'll find a ton of new and better options. It all depends what you're comfortable with. I find myself using the coated-wire attached aiders more and more due to their convenience and ease of use. Good luck!
this is the only video with this info thanks, please do one on the best material to use for the D loop.
I can be up a tree and my bow pulled up in less than 3 minutes using a climber. The saddle just looks like so much farting around with different steps that I know will be much more difficult in the dark
Tim: I love my climbing stands, but you're not up a tree in 3:00, unless you've climbed it before -- and it is super straight, 9"-22" in diameter, no tree lean AND no limbs on the way up to stop you dead in your climb at 10 ft high. And this is without even mentioning total weight you have to haul in and the noise of that climber. I've used both extensively. No comparison. With a climber you hunt for the best tree that will accept your stand. With a saddle I choose the best tree TO KILL AN ANIMAL FROM. When you started using a climber it was awkward and you needed some time to workout everything from how to pack it in quietly with your other needed gear to how much angle to put on it at the base of the tree. Saddle hunting is no different. It does take some practice to get acquainted with the best way for you to climb -- BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT! I have faith in your skills and your objectivity to understand the overwhelming advantages in tree availability. You can do it Tim, and you'll be glad you did!
Amazing camera angles, light, and footage! Terrific climbing technique! Thx!
But if that thing snaps you're probably dead
And if you run head on into a truck...so are you. And what happens if you accidentally eat a poisonous mushroom? Probably dead. I'm betting I'm much safer in my saddle than you are orally experimenting with fungus.
This is exactly what I needed.. 4 sticks + an aider should be plenty, ty!
This is the best video I’ve seen for saddle hunting . Great camera work. Clear and well thought through narrative
Very insightful video.
Way to much work and too many steps. Climber is the way to go.
I love my climbing stands, but They are very LIMITING. A climber needs a super straight trunk, 9"-22" in diameter, no tree lean AND no limbs on the way up to stop you dead in your climb at 10 ft high. And this is without even mentioning total weight you have to haul in and the noise of that climber. I've used both extensively. No comparison. Great video. I wonder if you used a drone for shooting.
I did Indeed, T.T.!
Hey, I'm a little late to the saddle game but I'm here now. Wondering if you tied a knot for the top of your aider or did you have it sewn. Do either of these options pose a risk to strength of the aider or a decrease to the weight rating? Thanks !!
Sewing is always better, Michael, but I would recommend watching this video: ruclips.net/video/mXe-8GmS08k/видео.html -- when I filmed this, there were not a lot of commercially available aiders. Today I typically Amsteel aiders from: customamsteelproducts.com/ , www.backwoodsmobilegear.com/shop-online/multiaider and Eastern Woods Outdoors. All great products and easier than the moving aider I started with. Good luck!
@@mikecarney1449 thank you very much Mike, this will help a lot. Have a great season.
Thanks a heap! Your tips and tricks will help this old bowhunter out trying to learn the ropes! Really enjoyed the way this was professionally filmed and executed. Well done!
Glade you enjoyed it JD!
EXTREMELY well done. Very thorough. Thank you.
DONT FALL

The point of a drop away is to have less contact…not more. Please explain yourself so I can better understand why you are choosing to have more contact
My loan-wolf was up the tree and I’m sitting at 3:45. That’s just to much going on.
Brian, I love my climbing stands, but you're not up a tree in 3:45 unless you've climbed it before, left it attached at the base of the tree -- and it is super straight, 9"-22" in diameter, no tree lean AND no limbs on the way up to stop you dead in your climb at 10 ft high.
