    For those commenting on the decisions, yes, some of them seem terrible, but also remember that it was the refereeing standard back then to give mostly lets. Now it is the opposite. The players play to the circumstances. The change in refereeing has led to better clearing and more effort to play the ball, and thus a better game, both to play and to watch.

    • @stevehughes1510
      @stevehughes1510 5 месяцев назад

      @@waltersavage4796 These guys would have footed it well with the players of today. You take the top players of the past and give them today's rackets and ball, they'd be fine to compete. One thing that's obvious in regards to today's matches is what we called back in the day 'the American scoring system'(where every point counts), this scoring system makes the matches of today shorter in duration compared to the English scoring system of the past where a player could only score a point on their serve.

      I liked Dean Williams a lot. He was a hard hitting player, who was the runner up to Jahangir Khan at the 1982 World Open. I did see a fascinating match between Dean and Maqsood Ahmed from Pakistan in Karachi. It went to 5 games with Maqsood emerging as the winner. It was an upset win.

    He seemed to be stepping so close to the walls when ghosting left and right. Is that a result of changes in how people play and/or old style racquets?

    • @HEALTHANDWEALTHCHANNEL-h6o
      @HEALTHANDWEALTHCHANNEL-h6o 25 дней назад

      Older rackets are made of solid, heavy metal, so to complete a swing you have to swing with a shorter, flatter arc, which means you have to stand closer to the wall or you won't reach the ball

      @stevehughes1510 Jahangir Khan 's birthday is December 10th, 1963. He was 2 months short of his 16th birthday when he won the World Amateur Squash final. I saw Jahangir winning his first Pakistan Open final vs Qamar Zaman. My recollection is that match took place in December 1980. His first professional final victory was in the NZ Open in 1980. That's how, I calculated his age to be 16 at that time. I didn't mean to nitpick at all. I respect you very much and your knowledge of squash is tremendous. How do you think Jahangir Khan would have fared in the modern era? I believe he would adapted to it with his willpower, but I believe Jansher would have beaten everyone.
