I have a stallion who is very aggressive towards other horses, geldings or mares. When he meets unknown horses (from a distance), he basically trembles - from fear or insecurity or excitement. How can he be trained not to be that way? To be more self assured and calm around other horses?

I agree . Because of our relationship , my horse is very willing to try to do what I ask him to do ( usually). If he doesn't get it , I gently guide him and try to be more clear on what I want. 78 years young and Still learning.

Questions always need asking, & any experienced horse person loves giving answers. We want the horse to get the top care it deserves. Also get books by horse experts, & study those. Never stop asking questions of your vet, your trainer, & your farrier, & other experts on horses.

This is excellent. I'm working with my horse and watch a lot of craig cameron; the host here takes a similar approach towards the work but he languages things differently and that's really helpful in getting a fuller understanding of how things are from the horses perspective. Thanks for the solid content.

My dog plays with my horse, nipping at her heels as she's lead to turn out. She does not react. I've felt like it's good desensitizing for her. Other people have rebuked me for allowing it, (even though I scold the dog, I'm not really "allowing" it), I feel like it's actually been a good thing. I have chickens around my horse also.

When I first brought home my OTTB rescue, he would allow the chickens to eat his grain, too afraid to stand his ground - but now that grain is his (the whole handful LOL) and yes, chickens helped him work thru his fears - chickens & horses go together! thx 4 the share - blessings always & keep being kind!

Love is important to have in your relationship with the animal but it's not the same thing as respect. An animal can love you and still not respect you. Teaching any animal to respect your space and over the food you give them is the foundation for that respect. If they barrel right in when you feed them without waiting for your say, that behavior will transfer over to any other situation. This is how animals communicate with each other. People often forget they are constantly communicating things to their horse on how they can behave around us whether we intend to or not. Allowing pushiness tells the horse it's okay to push into your space. Try walking out into a field of a big herd of horses with food and find out how long love saves you from being injured.

I loved watching this, I can not wait for the next step❤ I have a gelding, who was super headshy, I managed to find out from previous owners that he was whipped in the face as a youngster, which really saddened me. They battled to put a bridle on and started to use force. He then got sold and eventually found/chose me. I was nervous in the beginning because he is a big horse, but I took small steps and showed him, I mean him no harm. Today I can scratch his face, clean his ears, touch his poll without him backing up and throwing his head up. The trust is undescribeable❤ He taught me so much about trust and patience. People who don't know us, even comment on how amazed they are when my horse spotted me in the crowd. His eyes follow me everywhere🥰 Such an honour to know. Sending greetings from South Africa🇿🇦🐴
