Best Focal Length for Vlogging
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.Год назад
Hey everyone! In this video I look at the difference between focal lengths for vlogging. I'm using the Sony 10-18mm APSC and the Sigma 24-70mm full frame lenses for this comparison. The 10-18mm is a 15-27mm focal length equivalent with the 1.5 Sony crop so it makes for a good stand in for a 16-35mm full frame lens. Let me know your opinion in the comments! What are you shooting on? Thanks!

me interesa comprar esta luz ... con que modificador de luz lo usas ?
flash as in photography flash?
thanks for the video but the background music is really annoying
where do you lie brother I love the area and snow
interesting so you shot APSC lens on full frame no? no vignete at all no?
ive seen several videos where you can shoot it on full frame
This was exactly what I was looking for👌 Thanks for the review🙏 Just a feedback: it'd be awesome if you could also go a bit deeper into technical stuff, like how different its output or CRI is from the other lights out there and etc. But nonetheless, you got one more subscriber 😉 keep it up🔥
2024 Update. 10-18mm f4 OSS is still the best wide zoom for Sony APS-C. Sony did introduce a power zoom 10-20 but it doesn't have OSS, and stabe is incredibly important for indoor photographs where light gets low, and shutter speeds get slow. The original 10-18 Rocks!
Hey there! I'm looking to get the 10-18mm f4 for real estate, I have a few questions about it. Whats the best way I can contact you?
I liked your content.. cheers:-)
So would you recommend this for my first main light? There is so many on the market, but this is in my budget range.... And looks very bright. Is the quality professional? I would mostly do product videos or photos...
and what camera are you using on this video? I love the quality.
Hi there, has been a while since this video but we'll.. I'm thinking about buying this lens over the GM for the Cost difference but I keep reading bad reviews about the lens getting tons of dust so easy? What can you tell me about it as an owner?
👏
Who can you use it on full frame without the dark circle?
the bi color one is rated higher at 4300k, the bi color is rated at 120,000 lux at 3.3' and the daylight one is rated at 99,300 lux at 3.3' @5600k. i wonder what the bi color is at 5600k
please can you link me to the best nd filter to use with it
Hi there, I'm looking at these lights for the power but according to BH the BI color is 117000 lux and the daylight is 99000 so that would make the BI more powerful but you where saying the opposite and thats what I would think that the daylight is more powerful. But do you know what is the right number?
Ya I was wondering the same thing but can't find a clear answer
Yes I have googled it a lot but I cant find anything about this.and in my experience a pure daylight is more powerful then a bi light as long as they have the same input of power and the led is of the same power as well. But maybe there is something I've missed out on. @@brighamaldrich
that 10-18mm lens in Full Frame mode at 15mm is PERFECTION. No vignette, optical stabilization, light and small.
Great review, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
What lense is your biggest money maker?
Probably the 10-18mm that I use for real estate. The work is consistent and the lens isn’t very expensive.
Stephen, any chance you can do a video about the Sony A7iv?
Stephen do you have a tripod recommend for the iPhone 14 with the Axis?
im planing to buy this lens soon but i am a bit concerned about the dust issue ? i read the comments and i saw that you ddnt have this problem , is it always the case ? thank you , great video !
which full frame camera do you use? great video!
Thanks! I use the Sony A7IV most of the time and if I’m doing strictly photo work I use the A7RIV.
Love the content. Perfect for a person like me who is on the part time side of photography and filmmaking
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! Just wondering that can I use other platforms instead of metterport.
Thanks for watching! As far as I know the Axis only works with the Matterport app.
Awesome video 👍
Thanks for watching!
Just bought one today from a shop closing Down. 5 years old, new old stock. Paid $350
That’s a great price! You can make that back with one shoot.
You deserve waaay more subscribers that you have Stephen!
I appreciate it. Just gotta keep making vids!
Will this work w the a6400?
It will but you will have a 1.5x crop with the smaller sensor so the lens will end up being a 36-105mm.
Very helpful. Seeing the different lenses in different settings is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Afraid of the dust issue with this lens 😢
It dont occurs anymore. This problem was solved 2 year ago.
I use it almost daily and haven’t had any issues with dust.
Hoping to exchange my 35mm 1.4 gm for this. I love the gm but I do miss the zoom capability for videos good video
Unrelated to the topic... Nice Shirt! I did to Casas trips to Guatemala. Loved it!
I’ve done it twice in the Dominican! Great experience. I did all the video work for our last trip.
Does it have OSS?
No
I love this lens. It might not be quite as sharp as the GM or have quite as fast auto focus. However, it has a minimum focus distance of only 18cm, shorter than the GM's 38cm or even the 21cm on the GM mkii. I love using this lens to shoot details.
Thank you, this is such a useful video for me at the moment. How will you compare it to the new 10-20mm lens?
Are you talking about the power zoom version?
@@stephengphotography Yea the PZ version. Although I will likely be sticking to the 10-18 as I can see it for about $350 in used market. The Sony E PZ 10-20mm F4 G is still around $648.
@@AyoolaBoyejo probably a good call. Cheaper, less parts to break, and for me I can’t see needing the power zoom for anything.
and for picture?
Hey Stephen, Is this pure video light or this can be used as a strobe too for flash photography? Thanks.
It’s only a constant light. It doesn’t strobe. But depending on the photography that you do it will work really well. I used it for photos at a spa and with an MMA fighter for promo material and it was way easier to compose the shot when you could see exactly what it was going to look like as I moved the light around.
@@stephengphotography Thank you. will need to search for complete silent flash light
The most important SL feature for me is the monoblock design, no extra adapters, no extra cables, just plug and play.
That is pretty convenient! I think the only time it really helps to have the separate control box is with a top down light setup. This get really heavy on a boom.
I also do photography as a side business, and with the Sony A7iv and that Sigma Lens (among many other lenses) as well, so your channel gets an instant follow. Good luck building your channel and business! Look forward to seeing more videos.
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
Greatest 85mm lens on the market currently. Not just for the money, best overall period
Do you shoot with a lot of different primes?
where is iphone 14 pro in action?
Right after I filmed that, I was set up to do a video on it at a clients house, but it ended up not working out. Definitely looking forward to getting it out and comparing it to the Insta 360 I've used for a few years.
Best lens all around.. only drawback it's slightly heavy..
Yeah it’s definitely heavier, but for a full frame 2.8 lens it’s to be expected. The new Sony I think is lighter but twice the cost.
Hi bro is this really 99300 Lux@1 m ?
I don’t have a light meter, but I wouldn’t doubt it. I just did a shoot yesterday for a spa and used it for a key light for photos. At 1/125 f2.8 and 500-800 ISO I had the light at 16-17% the entire shoot with a double diffused soft box. In the video where I’m talking about it being at 60% I was slightly squinting it was so bright but I needed it cranked up to balance out the window light. I shot the video with a variable ND so I wasn’t blowing out the highlights. It’s a beast of a light.
@@stephengphotography Thanks for answering, great video!
@@gya1021 Thanks! Thanks for watching!
Great Video! It's amazing what a good camera and lighting setup will do for production. I need to get you a DBC Offroad shirt to wear in your videos! 😉
My first sponsor! I wear a large. You can send it to…well you know where…lol
Hi, i have heard that even though this being a weather sealed lense, there is dust accumulation inside the lens. Did this happen to your lens?
My lens is still really clean inside and I use it all the time. Indoors and outdoors.
Thanks for the video! Helped me a lot.
Awesome! Glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Would you take this on a 2 week holiday as a run and gun, or go with the 24-105 as its lighter?
I think it really depends on if you are going to shoot in low light or really want the extra shallow depth of field. Those are the advantages of the 24-70. The extra reach of the 24-105 is awesome though too. Both have a trade off. I don’t have the 24-105 so I can’t compare the weights. Could make for a great comparison video!
I’m considering purchasing this lens in the next few days .
Definitely worth it. I’ve been filming a project in the Dominican all week and it’s been my go to lens 90% of the time.
@@stephengphotography Ironically I am Dominican. I was gonna go for the old GM, but it is more expensive, larger and heavier than this Sigma. Now the new GM is really nice, but twice the price I can't justify that either otherwise my wife will kick me out of the house. I rented it along the sigma 14-24 and they are both great lenses. I will get the 14-24 also eventually.
That’s awesome! I like it down here. I’m in Santiago. It’s hard to justify getting the GM. I think really the only added benefit is the focus breathing compensation with the newer Sony bodies. I need to check out the 14-24. I want to upgrade my real estate lens one of these days.
@@stephengphotography Santiago is nice. Sigma 14-24 is a beast. Very sharp I really liked it.
Do it ! I just got it and it’s a beast 🔥
