Old vs New Yea Alabama!
Following Alabama's 1926 Rose Bowl victory over Washington, a contest was held by The Rammer-Jammer, a student newspaper, for the composition of a fight song with a prize of $75.
Several entries were submitted to a panel overseen by the Music Department, and the winning entry, "Yea Alabama", was adopted.
The composer, Ethelred Lundy (Epp) Sykes, a student in the School of Engineering, was the editor of The Rammer-Jammer, and played piano in a jazz ensemble, The Capstone Five.
Lyrics:
Yea, Alabama! Drown ’em Tide!
Every ‘Bama man’s behind you,
Hit your stride.
Go teach the Bulldogs to behave,
Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave.
And if a man starts to weaken,
That’s a shame!

Go MSU!!!!... But we all know it's the Detroit Lions
I got to go with old on this one
Holy fucking shit 💀
They watered it down from its old mountain twang, which was the very heart of it all. Sad. ( Yes, I am a long time alumnus. )
GO DAMN VOLS
As a Sooner fan who sat 3 sections practically in front of the Vols band, and heard this song blasted in my left ear for 4 hours while my team is getting slammed. I absolutely love this song
One of us... Come onto Rocky Top!
The old one imo is better. The trumpets were amazing!
That old rocky top hits different
Bro you guys might wanna take another look at the music
I actually do love this fight song with all my heart. Hey fighting tigers always holds above it though
We have to go back
This is very interesting to see the contrast. Have you heard the 1988 recording here: ruclips.net/video/9At5o_IF_t0/видео.html ? It's definitely my favorite recording. I think there's also different arrangements for the version played during the on-the-field pregame versus a more sing-a-long oriented arrangement in the stands
Best fight song in sports period. Crazy that it’s not the official one though, that’s “Down the Field”.
The syncopated drums in the first one are awesome
it's still there, it just doesn't come across well in the recording
@@echo2121 Yeah I think that's because the old version they're using a more traditional wire snare versus the tighter sound of marching snares in the modern recording
@@jadziahax that's exactly what it is, i just didn't know what to call it. thank you
Best fight song ever, even the ones that say they hate it actually love it deep down inside.
I’m a Mississippi State fan. My team’s fight song is always my favorite, but Rocky Top, you’ll always be, my second favorite to meeeeee
And it’s not even the fight song.
Like saying the warchant is our fight song 😂
neck?
Not our fight song
Go Vols
Wish there was a recorded version of the full song with their little windup that they do before going into Rocky Top. Seems you only hear it played in their marches. Edit: Lol, nevermind, I seem to have found a version of it ruclips.net/video/9At5o_IF_t0/видео.html
That is usually referred to as C Page. You'll be able to find even more!
Nobody who is an Alabama fan cares for Phillip Fulmer, the current athletic director or Josh heupels for their arrogance.
24-17 😂
Haters gonna hate lol newsflash we don’t care what you cousin screwers think anyway
Alabama fan calling someone out for arrogance?? What a hypocrite 😂😂😂
Oh, the irony.
The whole state of Tennessee owns bama GBO
Bama fans in northeast Alabama especially hate Tennessee!
It's Tennessee week!
It is alabama-tennessee with a top 10 showdown at neyland stadium Saturday. This is a throw back rivalry going back to the 1960s and 1970s when I was born. There is no love loss between these 2 fan bases. Nobody who is an Alabama cares for Phillip Fulmer and Josh heupels arrogance. It's always a lot of emotion because it's midway point of season. Brings chills down my spine this week. But especially for bama in northeast Alabama. Ernest t bass is a perfect example of what Tennessee fans. Bama fans never get tired of beating Tennessee.
Bama lost to a team that lost to Georgia State. lol
I bet y’all are tired of losing to them
