To the original poster, there is a vast difference between your brother-in-law‘s sister and your own sister. Your brother-in-law‘s sister helped raise him, while it sounds like your sister only throws tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. Lastly, no it is not a logical conclusion to assume that the baby would be named after Rachel, and it’s obvious who your favorite sibling is as well as who your mother‘s favorite child is. YTA- He opened up to you hoping you’d open up to him, creating a stronger bond. When he tried to talk to you about it, you basically told him that was his choice to open up to you & you weren’t required to open up to him (& to be fair, you don’t) then said he could have kept it to himself & the relationship would still be the same. You made him feel like his trauma shouldn’t have been shared. So now he doesn’t share with you & now you’re upset that he’s not openly sharing with you & have to ask him. You want to hear his thoughts & feelings while not sharing yours. He’s already checked out of the relationship. You have 2 choices, open up & start sharing or walk away.

Yta! You don't have to share your personal trauma but you didn't have to say, "i didn't tell you to share yours" making him feel like he made a mistake opening up to you. Or maybe he did. He should break up with you. You are so cold and distant. Don't have to share every deep dark secret but can just open up more. We all have negative experiences that are not necessarily trauma.
