    Isn't this just sampling?

    • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger 13 дней назад

      To be more specific it is playing back a loop of short fraction of a sample to create a note of a particular frequency, no mater the fundamental frequency of the sample. Sort of just pulling single cycle waveforms from within a sample

      How does this differ from sampling? I could have swore the emulator ii works in this same way... Maybe I'm not understanding a specific subletly

    • @Nick1921945
      @Nick1921945 3 дня назад

      What he is doing is a form of sampling. The wave table refers to the act of selecting a specific portion of a sample to generate sounds from it. It is a form of sampling. Normal sampling doesn't dissect a noise. It simply uses it in it's entirety. If course you can do whatever you want with a sample, but wavetableing is a method of sound extracting from a small portion of the sample instead,versus using the entire sample.

    • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger Месяц назад

      I am not a logic user, but I wonder if this might work. 1. Set up a return track. 2. Add a standard delay to the return track and set Feedback to 0, but add a bit of delaytime. 3. immediately after the delay, put some sort of pitchshifter, shift the signal a bit. 4. Set the return track to feed into itself if possible. 5. Send some sounds to that return channel

    • @tomcanton9201
      @tomcanton9201 Месяц назад

      @@TheFellowPassenger Unfortunately Logic doesn't let you put parameter modulation envelopes/LFOs on a bus send unless you draw it in. I was able to make slightly similar sounds using a drum track with "Glitchshifter" by Airwindows at the end of the chain being modulated by the Logic Stock "Modulator". The Logic stock modulator doesn't let you do custom wave shapes though so I'm experimenting with Free LFO tools at the moment. Thanks for the general nod though you've inspired me! Confusing, YES. Puposeful systematic for crafting a determined sound, no. Powerful, 40 years ago. Modern state of the art, no. Ancient, nostalgic. Without those workstation-freaks this ancient technique would be forgotten since 30 years. Without those people, sitting infront of hightech-machines, dreaming of sounds and technologies of the ancient greeks... FM wouldn't exist any more. I was there, 40 years ago, when FM was state of the art. I remember that it solved big problems, but didn't produce "quality" sounds. But ever since all other oscillators around, latest since the supersaw-oscilator, and the most latest with Romplers, FM had to be burried!!!

    • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger Месяц назад

      My impression is that FM was used to mimic other instruments such as pianos and trumpets in it's infancy, which would sound cheap at best. But it's not been until recent years I have seen it as an interesting tool to create very unique sounds. Especially as parameters can be modulated in a far more complex way by usin controlers and software. Allowing instruments like the DX7 to produce mind-blowing sounds compared to what was even imagined in the 80s

    • @hanswurst2490
      @hanswurst2490 Месяц назад

      @@TheFellowPassenger Exactly! What younger freaks don't know anymore, are the needs/problems of those times. You are abolutely right: emulate native instruments with cheap technology and no affordable memory... which would have been needed for sampling. There was sampling too, but also with this memory-problem and therefore ridiculous sample-/bit-rates. I had an organ capable of this. It neede affordable memory (end 90s) and the developement of CDs with theoretical standards. You are right: there were signature FM-Sounds. But what was the DX7? For me a better ePiano. Electronic improved, cracks made their way and created nice FM sounds. But it remains: 1) FM is not accessible for normal people and 2) it is limited at all corners. I just built the signature "laser harp sound" of JMJ... with subtractive synth. Not possible with FM. Plingeling, blong, blubb and pads... that's it. Ever tried to emulate a sawwave with FM? Absurd task😉

    1. For those who say they prefer human made music.. that is great, except for the fact that you have no way of knowing how it was made. 2. You cannot talk about AI music and its impact without taking into consideration the automation aspect. AI music will outnumber human made music by Infinity to 1. As artists we already have to compete for visbility on social media against a post of somone making a nice pasta.. now we have to compete against infinite music. The main issue for producers is visibility. 3. The act of listening will become equal to the act of creation. Namely if spotify creates an ai generated music playlist based on your listens.. each new listen now becomes equal to you creating new music. This again adds to the visbility issue. For music listeners AI music is going to be insane.. the amount of genres that are going to be created will be amazing... for the average producer, even after you get over the existensial crisis that making music has no value anymore (which i have been dealing with for a couple of years now).. we have to think of new layers of creativity.. but the answer will likely be embracing ai and finding new parameters to tune. So for all the people who are hating on this ai music video.. understand that as producers we share all your concerns by 10x.. you are not saying anything new.. but the answer is to either stop and be miserable or to accept and adapt and evolve. Which is what is being done in this video.

    • @CrabyCrab85
      @CrabyCrab85 Месяц назад

      And the argument of ai being copying artists by training on them... there are so much more important arguments than this But in response to this.. most genres nowadays are a regurgitation of the same tracks anyways. Even in so called underground music which is supposed to be the most creative.. its all the same formulaic music. As humans we literally train our brain on the music of other people.. then the creative people will try to find their own twist and those who are not are happy to output the same things they were trained on. Ai is not making that choice for you.. its the human who is still making it if you are using it to create. Also.. since when did any artist that defined a genre get fucked over because people copied them ? Name any artist that did something creative thst resonated with people.. and did we see any of their careers end because people copied them ? No.. usually the copying is what you need for a genre to be defined..
