Neat idea, but this video was too blurry
I don't think this is a very blurry video
It's showing up clear on my end. It's at 720p when I watch it. Hope you sort it out and thanks for watching! Dinos aren't as powerful as Primeval Titan, but they are a ton of fun, and Trumpeting Carnosaur brings a lot of power with it.
You should take a look at Eater of Virtue for this deck. The equip rate itself is good (+2/+0 for 1 drop and 1 equip) but you can slurp up some really good keywords. Especially hexproof and haste.
Thanks for watching! I play that in my Boros Triple Keywords deck so I've left it out of this list, but it's a great fit for a deck like this, you're right.
This is beautiful, would like to see some gameplay
Thanks for the compliment! I don't have anything recorded yet, but I'll see what I can. Thanks for watching!
How did this do? Looks fun af
I only had time for 4 matches...went 1-3. You can read about my impressions here cyclesgaming.com/keeping-modern-janky-duskmourn-glimmers/#decklist-%E2%80%93-temur-glimmers, but I'd like to test it more, as a we got mana screwed a couple of matches. Thanks for watching!
I googled the wrong card when I asked if you were going to use the leyline.
Which one were you thinking about?
@@cyclesgaming. Cradle of vitality for some reason.
My opponent is playing a super sweet deck! Their turn 3 in game 1 is amazing!
Odd thing to gripe about but i feel id watch your videos a lot more if they were 1 long video :D Otherwise, ty! Great content
Thanks for watching! I can definitely make one long video of 5 matches together, but since I'm not editing out the down time during turns, I figured the videos were already too long... I appreciate the feedback. Glad you're enjoying the content!
its so funny how short the dragon video is 😭
It's a deck for beginners, so yeah, it's pretty straightforward. Check out the article on cyclesgaming.com for a more in-depth discussion of it. Thanks for watching!
Notably Valkmira cannot protect your creatures from your own sources of damage like Lashknife Barrier can. I love me a Crypt Rats activation, and we can pump one mana at a time into our Crypt Rats and it'll never pop itself with Barrier in play. It can even survive through it if you decide to give it deathtouch. Though, it means you're gaining less life if you give the rats Lifelink.
For anyone who makes it to game 2, I got the combo assembled, but didn't have a stop set in place in the combat step and so wasn't able to attack for lethal. Sigh. Lesson learned. OP playing a sweet deck!
Good attempt on the deck building around EOB. Firstly i would prefer to play thoughtseize than inquisition so my turn 1 i can discard some bombs from my opp hand and then turn 2 i can exile them and turn 3 reanimate the exile creature. I did some brews with EOB with the yawgmoth creatures where my enabler is Retribution of the Ancients. An aggro deck with some reanimation engine. Not a competitive deck but a super enjoyable one for FNM.
Thanks for watching! Earlier versions, which you can also watch on the site, had 2 Thoughtseize, 2 IOK, along with Tinybones and Dauthi Voidwalker...all in on trying to steal things from OP's yard. Honestly, though, Modern is so low-to-the-ground these days, unless it's Indomitable Creativity or Goryo's Vengeance, there's not much IOK can't take, creature-wise. Still, it's def, a work in progress. The most punishing way to abuse EOB that I've encountered was in an Esper deck looking to fill their own graveyard and reanimate Archon of Cruelty with him. I think this is a more fair version. And there are lots of cool lines and room for creativity in card choice. Thanks again for the comment and watching! I'll keep posting my testing of the deck as I tweak it.
Morophon commander maybe?
Definitely an option. Would you consider Morophon a more or less powerful option than Esika?
Probably more, a bit easier to get out, removal of coloured mana pips in 5C is crazy good@@cyclesgaming.
Cool to see RUclips recommending me some smaller Magic longplay creators. Can I recommend that you crop your camera to remove some of those books? Your head is very tiny for how much screen real estate the camera takes up.
Also it'd be nice if the hand size and field size were a little more balanced so it was easier to see what was on the field.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback! I'll see if I can figure out how to do that with the program I use.
This is a cool deck!
Thanks for watching!
You could try titania's crimes deck as well. It's nice! 8Fields package with scrabbling claws and fields for the crimes and you get lots of lands by freestrider and deeproot wayfindwr. Titania just keep producing her army. It's very fun!
I'll have to test those out! I just retooled the deck to make room for bowmasters and tribute to the world tree. I have visions of my insect tokens and orc armies coming in as 3/3s and refilling my hand after sacing all my lands. That last part may be win-more, but I'm excited to see it in action!
Thanks for the comment and for watching!
What are your thoughts on Cartel Aristocrat over Bartolome?
It's worth a try, especially if we have some other counter synergies. The protection on Cartel Aristocrat is a pretty big deal, though. It can let us punch through lethal damage in some cases, while also nerfing targeted removal and ensuring at least one of our combo pieces stays alive. Thanks for reading! Have you played Aristocrats before?
Fun deckbuilding exercise but not enough low cost ramp. What about Sol Ring? Sneak attack could help you cheat some of the huge stuff. A seething song will help you stabilize early with a big threat.
Thanks for watching and for your thoughts on the deck! I'm pretty anti-Sol Ring in all but my most competitive decks (check out My Commander Philosophy on cyclesgaming.com). Some more 3-mana costing mana rocks would stay on theme and speed the deck up though. That's def a legitimate change. Sneak Attack is off theme, and I play it in my Purphoros deck. Seething Song costs 3 mana, so that's cool. I'm just trying to keep it from being a Boros Good Stuff deck. I want more noncreature spells that stick to the theme of three. Appreciate your comment! Do you have a deck built around a janky restriction?
Voracious Gearhulk and Ardarkar Wastes
have two cards in the deck that don't exist
I apreciate that the video is so short :0
Why not use Morphon as the commander? He is also 5 color and less busted than Esika.
Cool!
They need a mana dork with hexproof and a low cost high powered green creature with trample and haste
I'd cut out the first 40 seconds and put it at the end. Gets you right to the meat of the idea
Thanks for the feedback! It's much appreciated! And thanks for watching!
That's not a turn 1 win, that's a turn 1 remove one player, and then the other two immediately gang up to destroy you, and you probably don't get invited back to game night.
It’s okay, sometimes I forget about cEDH often being 1v1
Haha, yeah, I was careful to call it a turn 1 kill...except in the title. I play a lot of 1v1 over Skype due to circumstances. However, if I manage to pull off a turn 1 kill with a 5-card combo, I'd hope my play group would appreciate it as much as me...before making me the second one out. Thanks for watching!
1v1 commander is a weird format but it is a format.
Basically make a deck consisting of all free mana and net gain mana
TL;DR Free spells, including mana, are pretty busted in Magic! Haha. However, besides the turn 1 dream here, Purphoros is a sweet build-around commander if you like playing high mana-costing creatures with powerful effects but don't want to pay full value for them, with or without the free mana. Thanks for watching!
You could do this combo way cheaper by removing Jeweled Lotus and Mana Vault for Sol Ring and Treasonous Ogre, you can grab 13 red mana out of the air but you only need 8 for your combo to do its thing. Saves you just under $150
So...mountain, mana vault, and sol ring to make a total of R3 to cast the Ogre, then 24 life to do the rest? Sounds great! Thanks for the comment. The 24 life is not nothing, particularly when we'll have 2 opponents left and we just became target #1 at the table, but hey, living the dream comes at a high price sometimes! And 24 life IS way cheaper than $150. Thanks for watching! What's the most busted thing you've done with Treasonous Ogre?
@@cyclesgaming.Just trust the heart of the cards (aka cheat) to make sure you draw blightsteel colossus on your next 2 turns. Mountain+sol ring is enough to do it again
Cool deck, might change around my gargos deck to run this instead.
Thanks! And thanks for watching! Zaxara is so much fun and getting access to two more colors makes for tons of room for innovation. What kind of synergies does your Gargos deck have that you may lose going to Zaxara?
@cyclesgaming. The only thing I can think I would lose would be the easy fight trigger by pumping gargos while on the field and using it as pseudo creature removal. But the added versatility of a commander that costs two less, can tap for two mana and helps my board get wider is well worth it. Plus could always get lucky with an early gargos draw lol.
@@MrWhimsicalNonsense I've never been lucky enough to cast Gargos in my deck but I refuse to cut it because, well, so much value! Let me know how the deck building goes! I'm curious to see how you build around Zaxara.
Really good!
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback! I'm working on a Rakdos build with Magda currently. I just can't quit trying to make her work...
Cool idea! Tame enough but punishes multi color decks hard. Any chance for a dinosaur on the wish list?
Thanks for the feedback! I currently don't have any plans for a dinosaur for the wish list. The next creature I have in mind might could work as one, though. What are your thoughts on a possible dino for MH3?
@cyclesgaming. well they have the one that triples damage for one player, but I would like to see a 3 or 4 mana Dino to smoothe out the early game. We have a lot of ramp dinos, maybe a card advantage Dino at 3 or 4? Or a different way to bridge to your lategame dinos but with Dino synergy to add to pantlaza discovers and gishath triggers.
I've thought about it a bit. I'd like a pterodactyl of paradise, 2 mana 1/2 flyer dino that taps for any color. I'd like a 3 or 4 mana draw smoother Dino, look at top 4 one on top of the library one on bottom. Perhaps it could be on ETB and attack. I'd like to see an overrun effect just for dinos. Maybe a worse kraterhoof that only works for dinos, but gives trample and vigilance. I would also like to see a dinosaur similar to your dragon suggestion. Some way to punish non basic lands in a dinosaur deck. Dinos have a lot of good haymakers, but I think my ideas could help smoothe you to the haymakers, and Dino kraterhoof could really help close out a game in a flavorful way. Oh, as another thought, I'd like to see a dino that reduces dino costs by 2. We have a human that does it, but I don't want humans in my dino deck.
Lost bird of paradise would break commander haha. Guaranteed ramp and its hexpeoof at 1 mana in the COMMAND ZONE. Absolutely insane. And with proliferate it would easilly be cedh. Naw o dont think so haha. Plus its removing rhe ability to bolt bird which is kinda insane. This would have to have cumulative upkeep or something.
I don't see it being so busted in Commander, particularly as it can only helm mono green decks. Do you think there are multiple CEDH decks that could run this as a commander? Would having one more CEDH deck with this card be a bad thing? It reminds me of Giada, Font of Hope. Even when you can kill it, it's often not worth it since it's so cheap to recast. She's a powerful commander, but not busted (I know she has different stats, but she's the closest thing to Lost BOP). I think you're right, though, as are the others, that bolting the bird is essential to keep a card like this from making degenerate decks even more degenerate in Modern. I guess Wizards has it right not to give mana dorks the Ragavan treatment. 2 toughness vs. 1 is probably the most reasonable upgrade. Thanks for watching!
@@cyclesgaming. Fair. Being cEDH staple isn't nessicary bad. I suppose I'm mostly against it because it feels like an auto include that messes with the whole bolt the bird glow which I feel is very fair as is. I do feel wizards would never do this sort of thing because it messes with that flow so much. Like this would be insane on arena. Definitely would have to be like ward 1. I feel like that may be fair.
Its a bit weird that it just becomes a vanilla 1/2 flyer after you make mana three times. I could see giving it fewer counters, or making removal of them more certain, in exchange for the mana ability not costing a counter. Say, it loses a counter when it becomes untapped etc.
Yeah, if you read the article on cyclesgaming.com, I suggest removing counters whenever it becomes tapped. Just the wording felt clunky. Thanks for watching!
Yo you're modern content is sick. I'm watching through the older stuff too I was also playing the Lukka Emrakul combo for a while... you play some really sweet decks!
Thanks! I really appreciate the compliment. I'm always happy to meet another player of jank! How did Lukka + Emrakul go for you? My next plan is to try the combo in a jund build full of only 2-drop creatures. Thanks for watching!
One of the things that keeps B.O.P. a fun staple and not a scourge of the format is the fact that it having flying doesn’t actually mean anything. Green is allowed to get fliers, but only with 0 power or defender.
I've never thought of it like that! Thanks for watching!
Being able to bolt a bird t1 is very important imo, having protection against that is very bad
Thanks for watching and for your opinion! So, do you think even ward 2 on a turn-1 mana dork is too good? Having a guaranteed source of extra mana could just make the best decks better, too, which would hurt midrange just as much as help.
@@cyclesgaming.Ward 2 is pretty strong, id give it ward 1 so that you could still kill it before it produces anything if youre on the play but then youd have to take up you whole turn which might dissuade you, and if youre the bird player and are on the play you can still get something, I think ward 1 and ward 2 are very different and and the cost for the ward is very important to get right
@@cyclesgaming. I think that problem should probably be approached from other side completely, having even ward 1 on first turn makes it un interractable from player going draw perspective, so I think that better desing would be it ramping up instead like being 1/1 that taps for 1 colorless at first but when you use it first time it gets ward 1 and can tap for any color of mana, then with second activation it can become 2/2 flyer and gain hexproof and with third activation it could even tap for 2 mana, this way opponent could interact with 2 first turn (1 no prot and 2 turn ward ) and then it would ramp up if ignored but you can just immidiately fatal push or bolt it to prevent opponent from running away with the game and you dont have mana to stop it.
*INHALE*
Haha, seriously. That was like my 10th take and I knew I wasn't breathing but I couldn't find the right spot...Thanks for watching!
this would not only be a pushed version of bird of paradise because of the hexproof, but also a pushed version of Boggle because of the fact that it has flying. So a Boggle that can be tapped early for mana to enchant itself, but basically has permanent hexproof since you won't tap this Boggle for mana more than 1 time (if you tap it at all).
Is that a bad thing or a good thing in your opinion? Neither Birds nor Boggles see much play in Modern. Would Boggles be too good with this card? Thanks for your insight! And thanks for watching!

Outside of fetch lands, sprawls, and sideboard this entire deck is pioneer legal, so it’s probably better to play test it there
I played Pioneer back when it first became a format, but haven't in many years. With this website, I've been thinking about trying out some versions of my decks there. Maybe Hydras will be my gateway deck back...Thanks for watching!
seconding this, although the sprawls make the deck better the power level decrease that comes with going to pioneer should be greater
@@onemanarmy132 Thanks for watching! What's the pioneer industry standard for lightning bolt? It's been a minute since I even looked at deck lists...
I like that they forgot they could crack the fetch on your turn to gain 4.
Thanks for watching! And yes, that was an oversight on our opponent's part...everyone makes mistakes, but glad it worked out in our favor there!

Ahh gotta be the biggest blunder of my career missing that counter. Good game Johnny! Great video! I didn't even draw into Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca. That really gets the tokens flying out.
Fun games Colts45s, and thanks for the sub! I figured there was a good reason you splashed for green. Kumena is busted in your deck for sure. How did the rest of your league go? By the way, a viewer pointed out in my last league how I missed a winning line against Izzet Murktide, so I'm all too familiar with costly mistakes! I posted the article with videos from the league here, cyclesgaming.com/?p=2609&preview=true, if you're interested. Thanks again for the fun games and fun chat! Keep brewing! Let's keep Modern janky!

Those are some sweet synergies! How's the deck been playing for you?@@Colts45s
