Congrats John in reaching this important milestone, you gotta a new sub here!
@@JustwingitRC Thank you! And welcome to the channel! I’m always thankful for new subscribers.
make a vid how to snap on the propeller on the metal pipe because mine won`t and I think my metal pipe is broken
@@OtterNonsense-kr3jt I don’t recall if the Trumpeter kit has a metal rod for the propeller or not.
It looks so accurate to the midway SBD dive bomber
@JianDiaz-f6w It’s the Helldiver. Which was intended to be the replacement for the SBD.
Reminds me of the SBD from #midway
I want to build another one that is more accurate to the Midway SBDs. Check out the video that this short is made from. Thanks!
It's really good nice job
The colour that you are referring to is U.S. navy blue. Or better know as sea blue.
@@heathstephenson3863 The dark blue? I believe the technical name is non-specular blue.
@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 I'll check that one out. Thank you for the feedback. Is there a federal standard number for that, if possible?
@ The FS number for Non Specular Blue is FS 35164. According to what I found on Google. I hope this helps.
If historical yes you do if you like. And if you want to paint something different. Yes g9 for it. It's all about having fun
I suspect that UK Kingfisher has the underside painted in "Sky," which is more of a very light green. You are very right about not trusting the instruction sheet as to colors, I've found many inaccuracies in them (as well as profiles found in some books). Research is important.
Now that you mention it that makes a lot more sense! It seems to me that Kitty Hawks printers are more than a few shades off from the actual colors.

@@guyfromfuture1918 It’s definitely worth the money.
Crap...you were 2 years old when I bought one of these kits and assembled it. My first attempts at weathering and distressing, and taking my time with all the parts and assembly. It turned out beautifully. Hung it proudly from my bedroom ceiling for YEARS. Then my sister threw a tantrum and a folded pair of my socks... She was a proud ship, and was given a proper send off.
I know kind of how you feel when it comes to age. Especially when I see kits from my childhood or a kit like this one that was produced when I was born. I would have loved to see the one you built! I’m glad she got a proper send off!
@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 She was my pride and joy. I also built the Cousteau PBY kit. Finally got to see one up close some 30 years later. Don't mind admitting I got a bit misty...
i have an aviator's wings
What color did you use for the top of the fuselage
I believe I used Tamiya light grey or sky grey
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 thank you
@@HyperpointairsoftYT You’re welcome
This is nothing on you, but I'm still dismayed to this day, despite it being a very groundbreaking model kit, just how inaccurate it is compared to the studio models, and how much worse it got over the decades. That nav deflector dish... ugh. The original version used to be a lot more accurate.
I understand what you’re saying. The kit while nostalgic, is inaccurate when compared to the screen model. But it was all we had growing up. I know there have been folks who have modified this kit to make it more screen accurate. But none the less, this kit does build up nicely despite its age and shortcomings.
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 The original 1967 edition of the kit is far more accurate. If you put the two side-by-side and compare them, you'll see the difference in detail and proportions. And the original editions came with lights, first just for the sensor domes and then later for the nacelles.
@@nowhereman1046 I was unaware of that! I wonder why they changed it then. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘67 model in person. The only kit I’m familiar with is the one in the video. It’s good to know this information. I wonder if they have plans to revive the ‘67 molds. It would be nice!
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 Unlikely, or Polar Lights/Round 2 would've done it a long time ago. The simple answer is, like for so much else, to save money. Ironically, as the kit got more popular, instead of making real investments or redoing it altogether, AMT simply cut quality. - First they got rid of the lights, along with the translucent red bussard domes for the warp nacelles. - Then the running light domes on the saucer. - Then the hanger bay fantail dome. - The main sensor/navigational deflector dish is made less accurate. - The proportions on the secondary hull and interconnecting dorsal are changed slightly. - Finally, while additional ship names and numbers are added to the decal sheet, the font type is made smaller and blockier. The only thing they added to the model was the spheres on the back of the nacelle cowlings, but were not the correct proportions. And it's not like AMT could go and look at the 11 footer at the Smithsonian or anything. That's what Estes models did for their flying model rockets of the Enterprise and Klingon D7.
@@nowhereman1046 Yup, AMT kept making the kit crappier. A friend of mine and I were at one point working on a writing a guide for model builders for building a screen-accurate Enterprise, and he had gotten a 1967 kit and like you said, placed all the parts alongside those of one from the 1990s and it was almost night and day how different the hull shapes were! We almost couldn't fit some of the parts from one into the other because by that point they were subtly very different models! And in addition to the deflector dish, the outer ring of the deflector piece was shorter than the inner rings, making it even more screen accurate. I solved a lot of problems with it in the early 70s by using parts and the decal sheet from the much more accurate Estes model rocket kit to accurize it.
Cool dude!
Thanks!
Well tidy Mustang,well tidy inded.
Thank you! It is an excellent kit.
Cool 🛩
Thank you!
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 Check out my builds you too.
Blacken both sides of the knife blade with a Sharpie or the like, it reduces reflection making it much easier to keep on course when cutting. A pencil eraser also makes a good burnisher 👍
Thanks for the tips! I’ll try tackling foil again in the future. On a much plane with much simpler lines.
Excellent built and customization! I like the way you used the weathering pencils to give the kit some depth and personality. Very nice job on the armor chipping. I concur with your impression on the kit’s decals. Too thick especially for the small details. I assume you painted them. I built this kit myself (ruclips.net/video/MxBf-4X-cF0/видео.htmlsi=Vf_HfdtiyWPJWPEj). It was a very fun project!
Thank you! This kit was a lot of fun for sure! I did paint some of the smaller details like the dents in the armor. The more intricate details I used the supplied decals. Your build turned out very nicely! I love how we each customized our builds to our liking.
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477, thank you for checking my video out. As you wrote, it’s nice to see everyone’s interpretation of the same basic kit. To me it provides inspiration.

Absolutely! It’s the most relaxing way to build models.
Very nice. Will be doing this one next.
Have fun with it!
🖖😎👍A very nicely well done and spectacular looking model of the Constitution class indeed, A job very nicely well done for sure Sir and the stand looks awesome as well!,👌.
Thank you for the kind words! This was a labor of love to be certain. I may build an updated version of this kit someday.
@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 You are very welcome indeed Sir and its a very nice tribute to your Dad for sure!,👍.
I am very surprised it not know more in the US. I happened upon it years ago in a forum that seemed closed over by anyone else. Nice work on the kit.
I found out about it when I first got back into model building from a Facebook group. I absolutely love Flory’s it’s amazing stuff!
You have done good work. When I built that kit, I painted on the stripes. When I do so, I paint an area a bit larger than the stripe area. Then I lay down tape where I want the stripe to be, Then shoot the other colors. Afterward, I pull the tape. Never a bleed through, it works great!
Thank you for the kind words! I wish I had painted them on to be honest. But hind sight is 20/20. By the time I realized the stripes weren’t going to work out I was committed. But next time I’ll paint the lines on.
The comish?😳 Jman
Yes. It was one of my favorite builds.
I haven't built any of Tamiya model kits yet, but I'm thinking of assembling few of those that I have in that same scale, and of course different markings as well. Yes I agree that instructions should be studied several times as needed, no matter which company model kit is it. I know that I have Revell paints, and when I have assembled some model kits from other companies, I used the comparison of paints for Airfix, and I saw how is paint called by Revell standards. And that's how I have solved the things, and among them was firstly the dash board, pilots, etc. Looking forward to see it assembled.
Tamiya is my favorite model kit maker. The P-51B, F4F Wildcat, Bf-109, Mk I Spitfire, and P-47 are among my favorites. When it comes to paints and color matching I’m always looking that sort of information up. I use Tamiya paint almost exclusively and sadly there are certain shades they just don’t have. Also, sometimes it’s worth it to try and find historical references for colors. Because as good as many model makers are sometimes they get it wrong.
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 I believe you that they sometimes made mistakes. I also have Spitfires, and P-51 D in that same scale, and same company, and also the panel line paints. You can check them out on my channel updates if you are interested.
@@Harikejn I will check them out. Good luck with your future builds!
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 Okay dear friend. Thank you. I wish you also the luck with your future builds as well pal.
Beautiful model!. what is the intro music?
I’m not sure what the music is. I used unlicensed music on the iMovie app on my phone.
You can’t beat a Tamiya kit! Looking forward to seeing the build. Take care, John!
I agree! Tamiya is my main go to for model kits. I’m fairly far along on the build. I recorded this video a little while ago. I’ll be posting another updated video soon.
MIG-15. MIG 21. F-86. F104. Those sorts of things will work great with foil. They're cylinders, basically, with some flat parts.
That’s a great point! I may try foil again with one of those.
What's the scale? 1/72??
There isn’t a scale on the box anywhere. But as I said in the video it is quite large.
There isn’t a scale listed anywhere on the box. But as I said in the video it is quite large.
Super clean build - bravo!!! I lost my dad over a year ago. He was the one who introduced me to the love of model building. Our first kit was the original release of this kit with the lights for that saucer domes and nacelles. I’m currently building a vintage kit as a tribute to him. I miss my parents everyday. You did a fitting tribute to your father…excellent job.
Thank you for your kind words! My father passed away last May so I know what you’re going through. He absolutely loved the model. If you’re wanting to give your ship a custom name look up G-Cals on Facebook. He does an excellent job with custom Star Trek ship decals. I hope to see your build when it’s finished!
Its nice that this was molded in bare metal colour. Maybe a few panels in different shades of aluminum and a coat of gloss?
How nice of you to do that for your dad and I love to see one more for your daughter to
Thank you!
I finished this exact kit 6 months ago. You will not find one without worped wings. I dipped each half of the wing in boiling water for 3 to 4 seconds then lade them on my counter top with a wait on them till It cooled. I installed fiber optics in the cockpit, and lit up the monitors with LEDS, installed flashing lights in the wing and sail tips, cut out holes in the plastic part of the engines and installed a blue LED light manifold. I also added missing details to the trenches on the wings and sail, I used magnet to hold the landing gear doors so I could access the switches for the lights. For the stand I used a retractable antenna rod so I could display it with the wings up as if were prepared to land or down in flight mode. I cut out and used the ROTJ logo from the kit's stand and installed it on my new base. It turned out awesome so I took the Shuttle to WonderFest it earned a Bronze .
I forget to mention that I also changed the angle of the bridge so it wasn't angled down so much. This made it more screen accurate. I also opened up the door between the bridge and hallway so you could see Darth Vader. I installed 2 LED lights in the hallway so you could see the added detail in the hallway.
Wow! You put in a lot of work! I’d love to see it. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with mine yet. But once I get around to building it I want to do something special.
What level does box say it is?
The box says skill level 4. But the kit is so simple I’d say it’s realistically a beginner’s level kit. Not too many parts and the assembly is fairly simple.
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 ok thanks☺ because I built the uss kitty hawk and an f4f wildcat yesterday and I was thinking if that model kit was the same level as the other kits.
What kit was the F4F? I have the Academy SBD-1 in my stash and it looks to be a much better kit than the Revell SBD. A little more complicated but the detail is superior to the Revell kit.
@@modelsbyjohnmichael3477 the kit was an airfix kit and the uss kitty hawk is a academy model.
That's nice
Thank you!
Great job.... I'm a builder look for Wrongway346.. on RUclips
Nice job! I love the star field on the stand. That’s a nice touch.
Thank you! The star field was really easy to do. Just pick three or four colors, (I used white, blue, yellow and red) thin them down to a water color consistency and flick them on with a brush.
Outstanding John. Model is worthy for filming :)
Thank you for your kind words!
Hi, could we please get an update on the P-40B Underwater Diorama? It looks great, but no pressure.
Unfortunately it didn’t turn out well. I did a video about it I’ll link it here. The epoxy resin reacted with something I used in the build. ruclips.net/video/yH6afeYCjt8/видео.html
That is a MASSIVE amount of epoxy resin. What kind of resin did you use and did you pour it all once or in stages? I've never had resin heat up on me before, I'm curious if you had something in there that had a chemical reaction to the resin to cause it to heat like that. As for the clarity and damage to the decals; did you coat the aircraft in anything after you applied the decals? And that really is too much resin honestly, especially depending on the type you used as most of them are only supposed to be applied to about an inch deep. Anything more than that and you're going to need an entirely different kind of resin. That said, the environment and technique used are also very important when comes to pouring resin, it's easy to ruin a project by doing something as simple as the room being too warm or the pour was too quick, the area wasn't properly coated and sealed to prevent glue and paint from contaminating the resin etc.
Yes it is a lot of resin! I used epoxy resin from Michael’s not sure of the exact type. I poured it all at once. Which was a mistake I’m certain. I believe there was something in the materials I used that caused the reaction. I coated the model with Vallejo acrylic matte clear coat. Not 100% sure what went wrong. But I know that I certainly didn’t do enough research. If I attempt something like this again I’ll be sure to do a ton more research.
Congrats on the professional-looking build. You have made the kit far more sophisticated than the contents allow. I bought the kit. My fear is the punching out of the speed brake holes. I do not have a dremill. So I have to exacto them out. I hope the holes are proportional to one another. I like the after-market decals. They make the model a stand out. I will do the 1942 red and blue stars. This will require a three tone scheme. The ease with which you speak about the build impels me to start on mine soon.
Thank you for the kind words! For the air brake holes I encourage you to get a hand drill (which is what I used) and a bit kit. The air brakes are pretty thin and might not stand up to an exacto knife. The hand drill allows for more precision when making the holes as well. It can be a little pricey, but it costs less than a Dremmel. It’s worth the money. Good luck with your build. I hope to see it when you complete it. Cheers!
I got an Enterprise model last Christmas that I've been scared to build. I haven't put together models since I was a kid. I've learned a lot since then by watching this and other videos. Thanks!
I’m glad the video was helpful. It’s certainly not the best model kit out there for the Enterprise. But it is a fun build. Just take your time and it will turn out great.
pքɾօʍօʂʍ
This is the same size as the old ones by amt in the 70's?
I believe so. It’s a 1/650th scale kit. And it seems to be relatively the same as the kits from the 60s and 70s.
That's a great job bud!! I'm glad I saw this, I was looking at the Academy which cost more. lol
Thank you! This is a fun kit but it is lacking in cockpit detail and requires some TLC to get it looking right. It is a low cost kit but you get what you pay for. But it doesn’t take away from the fun of building it.
Cool Kit!
It really is! I have it in my stash and hope to get to it soon.

What do you mean?
Very nicely done from an old Trekker/Trekkie. My NCC number would be 1954. I date events in my life from September 8, 1966...mostly.
Thank you! Trek has been a part of my life since I was a boy due to my father being a fan. I can remember seeing Star Trek II in the theater with my father. We would also sit and watch Star Trek together and still do.
