Suicide Trail - Agoura Hills (and a rattle snake)

This is a real downhill trail, very technical with multiple lines possible, and can be as fast as you can ride it! The only thing is, if you are riding a non e-bike, you will suffer a lot to climb to that trail. Shortest way is climbing DeadCow (which is another black trail) or go the long way around it (watch my Strava route to see). Trailforks: www.trailforks.com/trails/suicide/ Strava: www.s...

TommyKnocker - Topanga Creek

Short black trail in the Topanga Creek region. Pretty steep with some features planted here and there. There is one little double jump that is unrealistic as we can't get enough speed to clear it but it's rollable so no big deal. Some sections are pretty confusing as it splits in 2 on several areas (maybe the builders wanted to create several lines). But they all end up at the same spot anyway....

    what makes this trail "enduro"?

    • @mtbpap
      @mtbpap Месяц назад

      It was an official enduro race trail in the Big Bear races. And it really defines what is an enduro as there are some bits of pedaling and some technical downhill bits. Unfortunately it’s now gone after the 2022 fires…

    I'm actually in a similar position as you. Also want to start mountain biking before I'm too old. But I'm a little reluctant to go out on trails bc I'm really scared of mountain lions. Do you have any trail recommendations for trails that are well traveled?

    • @mtbpap
      @mtbpap 4 месяца назад

      Mountain lions are a very rare sight when mountain biking. Since 2020, i only saw 2 mountain lions on the trails while riding. Both time they ran away from me when they saw me. An adult rider with a bike appears way bigger than a mountain lion, so they will leave you alone. Size matters with mountain lion. Most dangerous situation would be to get too close to cubs, then the mother could attack. Don’t let this deter you from riding, mountain biking is an awesome sport!

    I'm racing beginner downhill this year (my first race of any kind ever) and wondered if there are places for racers to store their things when it's their turn to go? Will probably have a backpack with some stuff and would really like to not have that on me when I'm racing! Also--did you buy a priority parking pass, or just park far and ride in?

    • @mtbpap
      @mtbpap 4 месяца назад

      When you are racing at Sea Otter, you have a free parking spot. That's where I would suggest to keep your stuff. It can be a little far to walk from your car to the DH course, but you'll have your bike so it's not really a problem.

    I live a few miles from the park so I kind of lucked out when riding here. Exploring was easy by way of buildings and other landmarks so finding my way back was never a problem. Trails are not super interesting but event is pretty rad. It’s almost as the entire bike industry is there that week. Also, to do the DH race, you really don’t need a DH bike. An enduro or trail bike is all you need.

I would love to do this trail but I believe it drops you off in Sullivan Canyon which has been completely closed off for many months now. • @mtbpap
      @mtbpap 9 месяцев назад

      I did ride it a month ago, it's in pretty good condition. I know Sullivan Canyon is closed for work, but there is no sign on top on Monkey Spanker to stop you. There is one though on top of First Crack. Then I rode down Sullivan Canyon to the start, and as I was exiting, the guard didn't tell me anything. But I guess he wouldn't let anyone in.

    Juat checking to see what courses they used last year. WOW totally different than 7 years ago when I did it (and was sore for the rest of the SOC). Is it the GoPro effect or are stages 2,3,4 rather, uh, FLAT? Good job and I know just what it feels like to breathe that heavily (and crash)! I just signed up for the 60+ 2024 and I hope they have a more gravity-fed course!! The climb up Barloy Canyon did suck while still being on a timed tranfer stage between 3 and 4 (DS couse back then)_....won't miss that..

    Going down the main rock garden, you went to the Right. Any reason for that preference? Going left seems a little steeper but once past the initial lip and drop, seems like a little straighter line if just let the suspension do it’s job and resist using the brakes too much. I’ve only ridden this once and feel like now that I have a little idea of the layout, should be much easier to blitz down it, rather than just ride it And over think it (riding 170mm fox 38 and 160mm cascade link on Levo)

    • @mtbpap
