    It’s crazy because I’m going to be 44 years old, kind of depressed where I’m at in life, so I dream about being a kid again! Just to go back to simpler times, when my family was alive, god I miss it!

    I too muss my childhood days where it was all video games, going to school and doing drawings But for me I just wish I could go back to about a decade ago and stop myself from making terrible mistakes that caused my present to be what it is The worst part is knowing how much better my life would have been had I made the right choice Instead, I have to make do with what I have left

    Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and see my dead father and mother in Lake Orion Township, Michigan where I grew up. I know it’s not possible, but I wish I could tell both of my parents how hard life has been for me. I’m a disabled veteran and I live alone. Nobody cares whether I live or die. If there are other veterans out there experiencing the same set of circumstances, please let me know. I’ve been in three different V.A. hospitals, and none of them have really ever helped me to get better. 😢😢

    The 60s was a creative time, for music as well as television. If you wanted to push the boundaries, you couldn't do better than >The Outer Limits< and >The Twilight Zone<. I am 71. This episode lets you know you only get one go-round. That's a nice thing to know in your teens and twenties. Helps you set your priorities, or at least makes you think about them.

    This is such a beautifully written and acted scene....so poignant and touching. The background music adds an inexpressible sense of lament to the moment. Father giving future son final words of wisdom and future son realizing just how wise and right his father was. I remember watching this episode on rerun late one summer's evening in the summer of 75 or so. I was only 14 or 15 at the time, but as I sat there in the living room's late night darkness, I felt I was part of the scene. I could feel the central character's melancholy and his desire to go back to happier times...and realized that, as I sat there in our family home in the suburbs just outside Washington, DC, that these were MY happy times. As an adult, there were so many times when I realized, too late, that my father was, more often than not, like Martin's father here, correct in his counsel; yet I was too stupid and arrogant, to confident in my false belief of knowing better than my father, to listen to his wise and prudent guidance. Sometime in my early 30s, I awakened bolt upright one morning at around 3am to the thought "Did you think your father would lie to you???". In that late night epiphany, one of my rare moments of clarity and understanding, I realized that he was only trying to give me the benefit of his hard learned experiences. Although he died only a year or two after that realization, I did have the opportunity to thank him for all he had done for me and all that he had tried to do....and apologize for being such a block-headed ass. He looked kindly at me and said "That's ok. Its what most kids do". Dad was a master of the understatement. That precious moment of mutual respect and acknowledgement between father and son was over 30 years ago. I'm 62 now and would just like to say, once more....thanks Dad. You were the best father a kid could ever have. I love you.

    I don't think that Martin wanted the world that was around him while he was young, so much as what it was that he felt inside - when he was young. And I think that it was from this perspective that his father commented to him "... maybe you haven't been looking in the right places". And as it happens, this episode here and about a half dozen others like it, are my very favorite episodes of Twilight Zone. Unfortunately, you'll never have again what you were inside back then, but somewhere out there, there still are to be found - Cotton candy, Merry-go-rounds, and Band concerts; I'll just betcha.

    You can always tell a Bernard Herrmann score.

  • @anthonyat2401
    @anthonyat2401 Год назад

    Gig Young was more than a little troubled in real life. Herrmann's music was instrumental (no pun intended!) in making this episode special. I saw it only because I came across a clip in a Hugh Grant (of all things) film. Anyone moved by the idea should seek out "Our Town", which is almost unbearable - another film greatly enhanced by the music, thanks to Aaron Copland.

    1:11 “I guess we all want that.” It never hit me until now that I’m older that the dad likely fully sympathizes with Martin here. In that moment, as Martin is explaining his yearning for the past, his dad probably momentarily reminisces about his own childhood and in that brief instant, Martin and his dad connect in a unique way.

    This has to be the greatest thing ever shown on television. It far outweighs the dribble on tv now. The acting, the writing, the musical score, the message, even the lighting was perfect. I saw it on MeTV again the other night and it was so compelling once again. Rod Serling created a perfect, heart-warming look at what life really should be about. Instead of struggling for the almighty coin as an adult, we should still keep that childhood desire for carousels, cotton candy and band concerts.

    I watch this and it does make me feel like I'd want to go back for a visit to the past. I'm 65 now but to go back to when I was 8, what a thrill it'd be. Alot more simple of a world I think it was where people really talked to each other. Now all are on their cell phones.
