Fishing with Nick
Добавлен 21 май 2014
Nick Bueltmann here. Just a weekend warrior down at Lake of the Ozarks. Bass fishing is, by far, my favorite way to spend the weekends! I got my boating license a couple years ago and it’s been game on ever since! One of these days I’ll get into the tournament world, but for now, I still got some learning to do, and plenty of fun to have! Hope you enjoy the videos!🤙🎣

Got out for a couple hours with the owner of Swimbait Garage today to throw some of his new baits around and try em out. Needless to say, they’re working just fine! Caught my biggest fish of the year so far at 5.75lbs. If you haven’t gotten a Hyper Shad yet for the Bash, you need to go get one. They will without a doubt produce some bug bites next weekend!
Glide Bait’n Catching PIGS with the Hyper Shad in March on LOZ!

Water temp was 52 this day with sun and tons of wind again, and I absolutely hammered some biggns with the 7” Swimbait Garage Hyper Shad! Had a 3.96, a 4.07, and a monster 5.33 all within 30 mins of each other! All fish were caught on 45 degree angle banks with wind and sun. Between the last video and this video, I’ve by far, had the best weekend of fishing in March I’ve ever had on LOZ!!!
Jerkbait Slugfest on LOZ!

Water temp was 51 degrees with 65 degree air temp with sun and wind ripping into the glaize. I threw the jerkbait all day around secondary and main lake points, and also 45 degree angle banks. I slaughtered the fish! Only had a few decent ones but by the end of the day I had 27 bass on the jerkbait and 1 on the glide bait, making for the best day of fishing I’ve ever had in March!

I fished the Glaize this weekend and water temps were between 44-46 degrees. Most fish came around main lake points and main lake banks with wind blowing into it on A-rig and Jerkbait. Fish are starting to react to the glide bait!

Nice bro what umbrella is that?
Thanks man! And it’s the yumbrella flash mob jr. Only $13 and I haven’t had one break on me yet!🤞
Nice video
Thanks man I appreciate it🤙
looks like the glaize area? much love from minnesota i love that lake
Yessir we got a condo 3 coves down from PB2 so the glaize is my juice! Lol thanks man I appreciate the love🤙
Hey I'll be at LOZ this weekend but only have a kayak so just staying in our cove. What would you suggest throwing around docks in a large sized cove? We killed it last time on ned rigs and wacky rigs but that was back in April.
If you’re fishing docks and the wind is blowing I’d definitely be throwing a jerkbait, crankbait, or swimbait around the sides and corners closest to the creek channel in your cove and cover every dock you can. If no wind, I’d definitely pick up a jig or even a ned rig if that’s what you like for bottom fishing and just drag some bottom baits around the docks. I’ve caught several big ones over the past few years on a jerkbait just hitting the corners of the dock closest to the channel even if it’s over 30+ft deep on that corner, there could still be a 5+lber sitting there.
@@NickBueltmannFishing Cool man, thanks! I threw some jerkbaits in the box so I'll check that out. I do prefer bottom fishing texas rigs, jigs and neds, it's just easier to land them in the kayak...I seem to lose a lot of fish when Im throwing treble hooks. Got a net this time so in theory I should land them better, assuming I find them.
@@ejreifyeah that makes sense lol but hopefully a net will help! If you’re most confident in the bottom baits maybe just stick to that and if you don’t get any keepers in the first couple hours try switching it up to a moving bait. Bottom baits will always get bit and if you’re just planning on staying in your cove you can still cover water with a ned or Texas rig!
@@NickBueltmannFishing Well, I tried the jerkbait, but didn't have any luck. I couldn't catch anything on jerk or cranks but I only threw them for an hour or so on Saturday when the wind picked up. I also think my jerkbait was a little to small, it was a Rapala "slashbait" and only a little over 3" long. What I did have luck with was a 6" green pumpkin trick worm on a shaky head and also a texas rigged blue bandito bug. Caught about 2 fish an hour when dragging plastics, but they were all very small, around 10-12". Everyone had a good time, so that's what counts. Good luck out there and keep posting! There's hardly any LOZ youtubers out there so there's a niche to fill for sure! Good luck my friend.
@@ejreifthat’s awesome man at least you were catching fish and having a good time on the water! My one buddy was fishing that tournament and had a tough time too but ended up catching around 10-15 fish in the last couple hours of the day when the wind picked up with a few on a jerkbait and a few on a wacky rig senko throwing around docks just nothing bigger than maybe a 2lber..so at least you got a decent amount of fish on your confidence bait when a lot of other guys seemed to struggle. And thanks man I really appreciate that! I threw a glide bait all weekend and caught 3 fish..they were each between 2.5-3.4lbs, but not enough fish to take time to make a video…lol hopefully I’ll get some good glide footage in the following weekends. They should be chewing soon!🤞
were the livescope fish in brush? if so, how deep?
Only the couple small ones on the jerkbait were around brush in about 10’. The bigger ones were out on points just roaming around blowing through schools of shad in 20-25ft just a couple feet off the bottom.
Hey Nick. Just started fishing with the glide baits! Questions, what type of knot(s) to you use when you tie on the glide bait, what type of line and what lb test do you recommend when using it? Thanks!
Awesome man! It’s probably the coolest bite there is! I always use a Palomar knot with 20lb fluoro for anything from a 2-7oz bait then if you get over that I jump up to 25lb fluoro. Pretty much 20lb on everything unless you got some giant 9”-10”+ baits lol
I use seaguar red label. It’s relatively cheap compared to most fluorocarbon and I’ve never broke off on a fish with it on the glide bait in the past few years I’ve been using it.
@@NickBueltmannFishing Thank You!
@@phreakfitnessno problem!
Understandable I live 4 hour southeast Missouri. Got some awesome glide footage keep it up best ya can.
Right on man I appreciate it!🤙
I was there last Wed and Thursday....pitched wackys and worms around docks....clearly we should be on the rocks with gliders... We got ran off by the weather... Were you "scoping" these fish or just casting down the bank?
Unfortunately I do not have livescope so no scoping involved…lol wish I had one but just can’t spend the money at the moment…but yeah I was just hitting big rocky main lake points and some secondaries. With the glide bait I kinda just beat the banks around points and steeper banks eventually you’ll run into some good ones. Just takes a lot of commitment to throw a big bait all day not knowing if there’s fish around or not! Lol Usually though, these big baits will draw the big ones up even if there’s not a lot of fish around. I only caught 3 fish during the bash and one was 4.1 so I went for the 4.0 $500 and almost had it but then got knocked out of 45th place at the last minute and didn’t win anything🤷♂️😂
Good trip and good bass buddy, enjoyed the video
Thanks man I appreciate it!👌
its fun when they pull up! nice sack of fish man
Absolutely! Always a good time when they’re biting the big baits! Thanks man I appreciate it🤙
Is that a blank hypershad?
11:15 Huge! Beast of a catch.
Thanks chief! Biggest one of 24’ yet so far! Lol need to find some more of em now!😂
Man that Murphy guy can FISH!!
Got that right, bud! He’s a great net man too😂
Lol probably a better bet man haha. Doesn’t matter what that jerk stefo says
Awesome day dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks man! It was definitely a fun one!!!
What size is that glide bait
It’s a 7”
Nice catch! Fun day!👍
Nice job man, you in my backyard! lol
lol hell yeah man there’s some good spots round there!
Good job buddy, You whacked em
Thanks Man I appreciate it! Sometimes it’s just more fun to catch a ton of small ones than just a couple biggns🤷♂️🤣
@@NickBueltmannFishing You got that right buddy
What swimbaits you throw on a rig?
@@NWAhookups I use different brands, but I just put on some Kitech
@NWAhookups I use 3.8” Shad color keitechs for the 3 hooks and for the 2 dummies I just use the zoom swimming fluke jr cuz they’re cheaper and very durable on the hitchhikers
Cool video man. Nice red fish. Pretty cool the drum sound they make. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work.
Awesome thanks man I appreciate the follow!🤙
Dropping the lake to 656 in September never helps too.
No doubt. Every season has been off this year..pre spawn was late, spawn was late, and post spawn was late…and no current at all this summer also didn’t help. Fish are scattered all over the place. The only species I’ve been able to get numbers has been the white bass stacked up on points and flats in the backs of creeks.
NewSub
Thanks man, appreciate the sub!🤙
Glad you're back!!!!
Thanks man! Feels good! Lol
Definitely has been a grind of all grind this year... Makes you appreciate when you do catch a bigun.. Keep up the grind man, love the video's.
No doubt man. It makes me feel a little better to know I’m not the only one out here struggling…lol hopefully the winter bite will get a little better, we’ll see🤞 thanks for the view/comment man I appreciate it! Always happy to hear from my fellow fishermen!
Probably pressure from all the tournaments, I fish Pickwick on Tennessee River and it’s been so tough, But you caught some today buddy, good video thanks buddy
No doubt man. We’ve had bassmaster, 2 mlf tournaments, and the big bass bash..so, TONS of pressure..and I’m sure you know all about that being on the Tennessee river they tear that thing apart every year..fish are definitely getting tougher to catch. Thanks for the watch and comment bro, I appreciate it!🤙
You need to say "LETS GO" more. lol
Man I really appreciate the videos, great information!! Headed up there in a couple of weeks for the tournament of champions. Really want to catch em on a swimbait, but we’ll see how it goes.
Awesome video as always....love me some glidebait fishing as well!!! I'm pretty sure those sunfish are just attacking your bait to defend their area, keep in mind that they dont have hands like we do, lol. I have had sunfish in my fish tank before and I noticed that they are a very aggressive fish that are VERY territorial. I had to get rid of them!
Thanks chief! And absolutely they are by far the most aggressive fish for their size I’ve caught 4-5 of em on the glide now and every time it’s in their mouth so I guess they just want to get in out of their face so they just snap at it real quick and get a hook in em🤷♂️😂
Great fishing
Thank you!🤙
Awesome day!!!!!! To bad you guy's weren't fishing a tournament!!! Of course it always seems to happen that way.
Thanks man I appreciate it! And lol no doubt about that! Come tournament day the kickers don’t seem to wanna bite as good as fun fishing🤣
Another great video! Even more Awesome seeing you fish with your dad. Have you thought about fishing the "Just Fish team trail"? Or possibly signing up to fish US Anglers Choice team trail? If you don't already fish them, we'd love to have you come out and compete! Stay safe and keep the videos coming!
Thanks man I appreciate that! It was definitely a good day of fishing with the pops! I’ve fished the anglers choice trail a couple times with my uncle Dave and cousin Robbie, but I really just need a little more practice and confidence to fish those tournaments against the LOZ hammers! Lol and also, I don’t have a partner so it’s kinda hard for me to justify spending the money to fish the tournaments by myself…😬😂

This is my rod, line and reel. Nothing crazy just a $100 8’ medium heavy rod, and I use the 20lb Red Label Seaguar fluoro and it works great even for boat flippin biggns I’ve never had anything break on me in the 2 years I’ve been fishing the glides. And I do get nice reels for it though I use that daiwa 300 series it’s like $220 I think which still isn’t bad for big swimbaits.
Awesome Ty bud! Love the videos.
No problem man! And thank you I appreciate that!🤙
What glasses you rockin? 😎
@@willm9868 hey bud you know I’m rocking the Milliken specials. Got X-ray vision and everything. I can see fish through brush piles with these glasses.🤣
The confrontation with the ducks... I'm ☠☠!!
🤣🤣that was the first time I’ve ever had a duck actually jump up on the boat and he literally took a shit and hopped off. He was on dick mode that day😂
What size line you throw for your glide?
20lb fluoro for anything between 2-4ozs and any size over that I use 25lb.
Atta boy!!!
Thanks chief🤙
Awesome fish!!!
Thank you!
Awesome video! What rod, reel, and line do you use for that hyper shad?
Thanks man I appreciate it! And for the rod I use this budget Daiwa swimbait rod. www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_DX_Swimbait_Casting_Rods/descpage-DXB.html I use the 8’ medium heavy for smooth loadups and it does a great job at keeping them pinned! As for the reel, I spend a little more on those. I use the Daiwa Lexa 300 series 7:3:1 with the big knobs for cranking in the biggns easily. www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Lexa_Type-WN_300_Series_Casting_Reels/descpage-WB3.html And for line I just use 20lb fluoro seaguar red label
@RippnLips96 Awesome, and thank you for replying!! I ordered a couple of those hyper shads. Can't wait to try them out once the water warms back up! Lookin forward to more of your video's! Thank you again!!!
@@jamesrice304 no problem! I like to help out if I can! And good stuff man the Hyper is the real deal! Insanely realistic and gets LOTS of bites! Im sure you’ll fall in love with just like I have hahaha
Try pom tre lake in bolivar mo
I’ve fished that lake a few times before we got our place at the ozarks and definitely caught some fish but never any biggns really…but the Ozarks is 45 mins closer to me and much bigger plus my boat’s always on the water on the lift ready to go i definitely prefer going there hahaha
We should meet sometime and fish together
It always amazes me when I catch one with big gizzard shad sticking out of its throat like that. Like what was he thinking trying to eat something else.
I know man it’s crazy! Like dude you are literally in the middle of choking down a Shad…why are you trying to get another one when you got one stuck in your throat? Makes no sense but I love the aggression🤣
Nice video! What line do you use for your A-rig?
Thanks! And I just use 17lb fluoro for the A-rig and never have any problems with breaking off but 20lb works just as good I just think the little smaller diameter line gets a couple more bites especially on calm days in my opinion.
@@NickBueltmannFishing Thanks for the info. Is the rod you use a heavy or extra heavy or the usual m/h?
No problem man. And it’s just a 7’11” medium heavy dobyns umbrella rig rod. Just a budget rod at like $115 I’ve used it for 2 years now for A-rig and my glide baits as well and it loads up great and keeps em pegged
love the hyper shad one of the best glides out there. Awesome to see you out there in cold grinding.
Hell yeah man. Best glide out there forsure! I appreciate that I definitely enjoy the grind!
Nice Job with your video. I 3D print my own bass lures and enjoy each fish I catch with them.
Right on man I respect the grind! You got some good lookin stuff👍 get you some biggns this year!
Nice video! Seems like the cold water hasn’t taken the fight out of them yet. What is your jerk bait rod? Thanks
Thanks! And yeah the cold water makes it a little slower but as long as you take your time and don’t fish too fast you’ll get plenty of bites! And I use a 6’6” medium Lews Speed stick for all of my jerkbaits. It’s only a $90 rod and they’ve worked great for me the last 2 years. I got 4 of em because I love the winter jerkbait bite you can never have too many on deck this time of year lol
@@NickBueltmannFishing thanks man! That’s the price range I’m looking for on rods. Always looking for a bargain
No problem man I like to help when I can! I’m all about the bargains. I’m a blue collar worker so I can’t afford $200-$300 rods…😂I splurge on my reels forsure but the rods I kinda just go for the cheapest best option. I think the most expensive rod I have is my glide bait rod and that’s only $110 and I can boat flip 5lbers just fine with it🤣
What is your rod, reel, line set up for hyper shad?
The rod is a daiwa x swimbait rod 8’ medium heavy (only $100 so cheap for swimbait rod and works great!) the reel is the daiwa tatula 300 (around $180-$200 so not bad at all for a good swimbait reel) and I use 20lb fluoro for the 7” hyper but anything bigger than 3-4ozs I’ll use 25-30lb fluoro
What kind of glide is that?
It’s called the Hyper Shad it’s made by Swimbait Garage. You can check em out on Instagram, Facebook or their website. Also fitz bait n tackle down at the ozarks usually has some in stock as well
@@NickBueltmannFishing Thanks I will definitely be checking them out.
Nice Fish! I was guessing 5.5!
Thanks man! I definitely thought it was gonna be close to 6…definitely has the head/body of a 5.5-6 but was just under 20” so didn’t quite have the length of a 5.5-6 lol
Honest opinion on the lexa reel? I am tempted but wanted an opinion…
I’m not sure what that is..I use a Daiwa Tatula 300 maybe they just look similar lol Super nice reel for big baits and only $200 which is a really good price for a swimbait reel!
Eatin it up son!!
Hell yeah!🤙They love the big glide in their face this time of year!
