Creating a Linux Live Flash / USB Drive on Windows
My first tech video! Interested in giving Linux a try, or worried about throwing out a perfectly good PC computer in the next year or two just because it can't run Windows 11? Learn the basics on how to set up and boot Linux from a USB drive / flash drive to try Linux out WITHOUT affecting the Windows install on your hard drive!
You can also use your created flash drive to install Linux if you want to take the plunge! :)
In this example, I use Unetbootin to copy the image onto my USB drive and use MX Linux as my example Linux distro, links to both below!

If you mean one in the infotainment system, I've never heard of that on an Accent of this generation...they are mostly before the time of factory touchscreens in cars...unless an aftermarket head unit was installed by the dealership before it was sold new, which sometimes happens? The car did come with auto climate control in some markets, so there would be a little screen for that in some cases?

      I'm about 5'7! I have never found rear visibility to be an issue! As long as you adjust the mirror well, it seems to work quite fine. The driver's seat also has some very limited height adjustment as well FYI! The hatchback model like a mine is also easier to check your blind spots as the doors are actually physically longer than the sedan models, so when you look over your shoulder to the drivers side, there is more glass there to see out of instead of the B-pillar that would be closer on the sedan model. Thanks for the kind words friend! I would love to do more videos on 'Humdrum', as I call my Accent, but I don't have a lot of time! :) The fuel economy is very good...I've been being a little more careful than usual with it and 666.8km on a 45L tank! I usually get around 630-640km per tank, which isn't bad! It's hard to find a decent little stick shift hatch...I do really love this car, as basic and cheap as it is. It's approaching 193,000kms now. The only major parts I've had to replace are a starter (due to the grounding cable on it rusting away due to the winter salt here), a fuel tank (not a cheap repair, but not the car's fault....Hyundai used steel tanks which isn't a big issue, but again...it rusted due to the salt here. and the interior door handle stopped working just two days ago on the driver's side (a snapped cable that runs from the door latch to the handle on the handle end. The starter was fairly cheap as I had my indie mechanic put on a known good used one and it's pretty easy to access. The tank was quite expensive....$900 I think it was, but it's been fine since. I was quoted $255 for the door handle repair as the cable isn't available as a separate part and is integrated into the entire latch assembly....poor design choice, but needs must! Otherwise, just maintenance items here and there like coil packs, spark plugs, belts, tires...brakes...the usual! Not sure where you live, but if it's somewhere with salt on the roads in the winter, it's worth it to take the rear interior trim panels out and have rust protection sprayed INTO the rear quarters around the rear wheel wells....and just getting rustproofing done as well on the car in general is a great investment to help them last! Check out the 2006-2011 Kia Rio as well....they are the same car underneath as these MC-generation Accents, so use the exact same engines and transmissions and are just as simple and robust! :) I've got a few more other videos on my car here and there on my channel (and also other car stuff!) if you wanted to check those out too! You can check out opposite-lock.com as well - it's an auomotive forum, very friendly community! We don't ALWAYS talk about car stuff, but it's mostly car stuff and open to all kinds of cars! Is it reliable?

    • @rallydarkstrike2940
      @rallydarkstrike2940 3 года назад

      It's been very reliable for me! Short of normal maintenance and replacing maintenance items like filters, timing belts and spark plugs, I have only had to replace two parts...the fuel tank and the starter. It's even still on the original clutch at 186,000kms! :) Both the fuel tank and starter weren't failures due to build quality, but due to where I live in Canada and the fact the roads are heavily salted here in the winter. The seam on the fuel tank rusted out and was leaking, so it needed to be replaced - that was around $1000 CAD. The starter was also due to rust...a cable that runs from one part of the starter to the other actually rusted in half, so I couldn't start it....but being a manual, I just bump-started it until I got it fixed! :) The body is rust-free considering the salt - I do get it undercoated faithfully every year - so if you are getting one, it's a pain in the butt, but take out all of the rear interior trim panels and get undercoating sprayed directly into the rear quarter panels from behind! I do have one spot that rust repeatedly comes back on on the rear-right quarter wheel arch, but that is also not due to the car's build quality, but due to a poorly done repair by a local body shop that fixed some fender-bender damage back in 2015 :( Long story short I would highly recommend any 2006-2010 Hyundai Accent sedan or hatchback, or any 2006-2011 Kia Rio sedan or hatchback to anybody looking for cheap, reliable, and fairly comfortable transportation! (The Kia Rio of the same generation was a sister car to the Accent).

      You're very welcome! :) It's been a great little car for me...basic yes, but peppier than you'd think, fairly practical, economical and reliable! Thanks for the kind words! My brother and mother both have similar Accents in sedan form with automatics and they've treated them well also! A note...if you know how to drive a manual, the manual transmission is better in my opinion. The Auto transmission in these isn't bad or unreliable or anything, but the manual feels a lot more responsive :) You could also look into the 2005-2011 Kia Rio...it was a platform-mate to this car and pretty much shares the exact same underpinnings as this generation of Accent (same engines, transmissions, suspension components), so just as reliable, economical, cheap and practical! Also...welcome to Nova Scotia, glad to have you with us! :)

      @@gillianstaples7383 Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I live further up the coast from you towards Lunenburg/Mahone Bay. Ah, student loans....I do not envy you. I graduated in 2011 as a teacher (substitute right now, nothing permanent yet, sadly...COVID hasn't helped with that with the school closure last year...) and have managed to pay mine off...I do not miss them! I'd go for the Accent over the Rio based on the kms alone - the Rio might be fine if it's all highway miles (so go take a look at both!), but 272k kms is a lot of kms! That Accent is similar kms to mine - mine's currently at 179,000 :) The Rio would have the same engine and transmission as the Accent, so everything should be nearly the same under the hood. Some good info to know (and this would apply to ANY car you test drive): Check the bite point on the clutch...if it's higher up the clutch travel that means the clutch is pretty worn and could need replacing semi-soon...mine is still on it's factory original clutch, but it's starting to get a high bite, so I know it's likely not going to last TOO much longer. You can test for clutch slip (which means the clutch is shot) by accelerating normally until you are going, say, 50-60kph, making sure you're in 5th (the Rio and Accent would be 5-speeds) then flooring the gas for a second, and I mean only a few seconds, as you don't want to lug the engine too badly. If it's worn and doesn't have much friction material left, it would likely slip at this point from the sudden engine load. Check that the gearshift moves in a notchy, but fairly easy to move way. I can move mine with two fingers with a little effort into any gear, so if if's a lot more stiff than that, it could be an issue with the gearbox linkage. Reverse on the Accent or Rio is accessed by a lockout lift-ring under your fingers on the gearshift - reverse is in a slightly unusual place in both cars, a dog-leg to the left and UP from first, rather than the customary bottom-right on most 5-speeds. If you take them for a test drive on the highway, the revs should be around 3000rpm at 100kph...a lot more than that (especially uphill) and the clutch might be slipping. Look for rust in the rear wheel arches, not even visible rust, necessarily, but bubbling as that is a sign of rust behind...that's probably the worst offending place this gen of Accents and Rios can rust. Check the rockers as well, and look them over for rust everywhere, of course, but the rear arches are the first place I'd look. If you don't SEE anything, run your fingers along the arch lip outside and inside and see if you feel any bumps or crusty rust in behind. If there is rust on the front two wheel arches, that's not AS big a deal as those panels are removable/replaceable, so you could get used replacements from a local salvage yard for cheap, potentially (especially if you didn't care about color match). If you want to go for the Accent, any color is fine, but FYI if it's the burgundy color they came in and you care about you car's appearance, that particular burgundy paint only was known for clear-coat peeling on the plastic bumper covers and door handles that ends up looking a bit hideous...it doesn't cause rust, it just looks bad. Make sure to ask if they've been regularly undercoated and if they have service records to go with either car for repairs and oil changes and the like. You want one that's been undercoated as winters are salty here in NS and we live in a salt-air climate). DEFINITELY get a local mechanic to inspect either if you seriously considering buying one before you buy...on a lift they can spot problems you wouldn't be able to tell just looking them over. Check to make sure the CV shafts aren't damaged on either car (i.e. the front axles from the transmission to the front drive wheels). An easy way to do this is find a large empty paved parking lot and (quieter than gravel, so easier to hear!) start turning in tight circles at almost full-lock both turning right and left...the trick is to ACCELELATE slightly while doing these turns as you don't always hear the clicking until the car is under acceleration load - if you hear a repetitive loud popping/clicking that changes with the wheel speed, that axle on the opposite side is bad. (i.e. When turning right, you hear the popping/clicking, that means the left axle is bad). Repair costs for those would be like, like, $140-ish for the part, plus the labour to install it...so a few hundred bucks.(I have a video going up tomorrow morning that has an example of this clicking/popping sound in it as I have to get a CV replaced on my car in the coming weeks, so check that out tomorrow after 9am if you want!) Uh...check them to see if the tire tread is worn evenly across...if there is 'feathering' on one edge of a tire (inner or outer edge), that means the alignment is out or something could be bent in the suspension (usually the former though), which isn't a showstopper, but you'd need to get an alignment so it wouldn't ruin any new or used tires you buy and they're not that expensive, but not cheap. ....Uhhhh....can't think of much else off the top of my head, had a long day, so not quite with it, haha! Otherwise, the usual 'make sure everything works' (though they're pretty basic, so not much to go wrong). Make sure there is no Check Engine light, make sure the A/C (if any) blows cold if that matters to you. Check fluid levels in the reservoirs and for leaks under the car...blackish stainy puddles would be oil, coolant would be a limey green, automatic transmission (if equipped) power steering, or brake fluid would be red/brown. If the oil is very black on the dipstick, it might not have been changed in awhile. Check Engine lights aren't a showstopper either, but definitely get it checked by a mechanic first as some are pretty generic warnings that mean not much as wrong, but others can be a bad sign, so get any Check Engine light looked at the if the car seems fine otherwise. If you start the car and let it just sit at idle for a moment and you can feel a light stumbling once and awhile, but there is no check engine light, that might just mean it could use some new spark plugs...pretty cheap fix...mine does this when the plugs get worn. I'll end the novel there, haha! :) Cheers!

Looking forward to more maintenance with Humdrum!!! :D PS: And thanks for the tip about storing your old wipers, it never even occurred to me that people might steal them, but I see where that might be a big concern. If it's an Accent sedan you're talking about, there is, as there is a handle to the left of the driver's seat on the floor...but if you're referring to an Accent hatchback of this generation, the trunk can only be unlocked with the key. That being said, if your car had remote locks as some higher-trim Accents had, I imagine the trunk would unlock with the keyfob? Base model Accents like mine though, the key is the only way.
