I was just learning about the stuttering thing the other day. Its from Shader compiling a lot of the time. Some games will preload the first time it runs. The Last of Us on PC is a popular example of this, as the first time you run it takes like several hours to load them all. Other games will try to do other tricks like, throwing every asset you're going to see more or less at the start of the level hidden off screen when you load in so there are less skips throughout. Another one I seen was to make like a ghost play going on behind the loading screen, so like you record all your actions going thru the level, then it forces everything that the player will see to load. Really good game designers use a mix of the two, so you don't end up like the last of us, or like this game stuttering like its me trying to talk to the cute korean chick at the store. The next time you play the game in theory it should be less stuttery since you played through all these scenes. If you update your video card drivers tho you have to go thru it again. Curiously since a lot of video game consoles don't update their graphic cards, game devs on console can actually precompile all the shaders for the player. This can't happen on PC tho just cause of the amount of different cards and the fact they update regularly.
