Yeah, can't see Michael Jackson singing this at all, arrangements are all wrong for him, much less the sentiment of the song. CAN see Prince singing 'Muscles' though...that sensual song Michael wrote for Diana Ross...perfect for Prince lyrically and in sentiment, since Prince likes to write songs from the female perspective...but of course, no!...Prince has to have complete control, or change something around or he isn't doing it is he?

There's not much to this piece lyrically, or even instrumental wise, but I just love this song. The rhythm and tone of the guitar with harmony on the vocals is tight.

This song was produced arranged and recorded in 2 days. I believe thats the eeason Prince is holding up 2 fingers. It went to #1 for 8 weeks. Remarkable the all the credit goes to Prince. Unbelievable talent.

Heard 1991 version first. I liked the song but thought it was missing something. Then I heard the 1985 version and it all made sense. The 1985 version with the sad and bluesy lyrics coupled with the foreboding chords make it one of the most songs Prince ever constructed. I appreciate the in-depth review.

For those who were around 1982, Prince was straight business. A rare artist who arranged and played instruments, not just singing and dancing. Whoa! His rehearsals and live soundboard feeds sound better than a lot of today's artists. All of his bandmates were the truth. He made the Linn drum popular.
