CCJmusic - Original Music & Backing Tracks
США
Добавлен 30 янв 2016
ccjmusic is the place to find videos made by me to support the music I make. I make original music and backing tracks for others to play along with. I also post the occasional practice video.
CCJ is:
Colin Jones - Synthesizer, Guitar and Effects, and Video content and editing.
My musical style is mostly Ambient, Krautrock, Soundscape or Chillout music, but there are a few other styles mixed in, think music that plays during a movie's end credits, or during non-verbal scenes in movies.
100+ albums of original music and/or backing tracks can be downloaded for "name your own price" from Bandcamp.com at
ccjmusic1.bandcamp.com/
Channels on RUclips that have helped me on my journey include:
Robert Clark - ruclips.net/channel/UCOpa-Mbq-uppsoJM8HZD6ZQ
Ian Craig - ruclips.net/channel/UCsW51dYYnDwtNueNwv4H1Ug
Pianote - ruclips.net/channel/UC_DmCvOP5Q_eBMRDvqqRXjg

Vocoder Fun - More playing with my custom synth
Been spending more time playing around with my custom synth and this time it is a combination of noise, granular fx and a vocoder.
I keep tweaking and adding things to this synth.
I was definitely having fun earlier with using a guitar as the modulator on a red noise carrier in the vocoder. Combined with reverb and delay I was getting some great ambient noise sounds. I didn't record it though. I may do another version later.

Custom Synth Live Jam - Oct 13 2024

Playing around with the final version of the custom synth I built in VCV Rack. It will take a while to figure out everything and what it will be capable of. But so far I'm really happy with it. Note I can record either audio or video directly from within the synth making really handy. #ccjmusic #experimentalelectronicmusic #vcvrack
First Flight - CCJ
Просмотров 219 часов назад
I've finally finished the custom synth I have been working on in VCV Rack and this is its first flight as a finished project. This is all recorded in real-time with everything being generated and recorded in VCV Rack audio-wise. The video was added to the saved audio, so it wasn't just another video of VCV Rack modules etc. I think this is going to work well for me as it has features I wanted n...
CCJ SYNTH DEMO 1

It isn't quite finished yet, but it is a lot closer now, so I thought I would do a quick demo of it in action as a generative ambient synth. I still need to finalize the patch bay and enable the selection between two sequences. Plus, I'm sure I'll find something else that I have missed. Overall, I'm really happy with the result. Lower interface elements by MindMeld and @OmriCohen-Music #ccjmusi...
VCV Rack "CRAVE" project update
Просмотров 5519 часов назад
It still has a bunch of stuff that needs doing to it, But it is now a lot closer to what I was looking for. I have to fix a problem with the "AD" envelope. Get "Glide" working, make some tweaks to the modulation ranges so PWM works more and Freq Mod less. Plus I need to finish the connections for all the patch bay. Currently only a few are connected. I also need to hide the MIDI mapping markers...
VCV Rack "CRAVE" - Basic test

This is a better idea of what it will look like when it is done. At the moment the built-in keyboard and sequencer stuff isn't working. But a few things are. Just wanted a record of progress.
My Brain Hurts (No Audio)

I've been away from YT a couple of days working on trying to recreate the Behringer Crave in VCV Rack. Still banging my head against the wall trying to get the sequencer part to work. Currently I can't program it without having to go through multiple manual processes per sequencer step. Hopefully I will get it working at some point. Still it is a good way to learn what is possible and what isn'...

I finally have a base setup for VCV Rack and this is a first test with it.
Просмотров 13014 дней назад
After playing around for a long time I finally created a base setup in VCV Rack that allows me to create a new synth within VCV Rack, bring external audio into VCV Rack for manipulation or just recording, from my SH-4d, Crave, Guitar and from any sound playing on my PC. With the addition of an external mixer or some cable swapping I will also be able to use my Pro VS mini and any future hardwar...

Experimenting with VCV Rack - Sept 11 2024
Interesting experiment my friend!❤
Sounds wonderful, like friend
Nice 😀I've igored most VCV Rack instruction videos simply because I can't afford to buy it LOL. A full piece of nusic, though, is a different matter. It is very impressive software and you've made a good track from it 😎
@@darkcommission Thanks! I am using the Free version with a couple of paid add-ons. So I have only spent about $25. Most of what I have done was done totally with the Free version. It is definitely worth investigating as it is so flexible.
@@ccjmusic Wow!! I might just try that then. Thanks 😎👍
@@darkcommission yeah you should. Since I started playing with it I haven't even launched my DAW. The Free version has over 3000 modules available in the library. There are around 400 paid ones, but unless you need something very specific you can definitely be really happy with the Free version. If you need a version that runs in a DAW you can either pay $149 for the VCV version, or download Cardinal instead which is a subset with around 1300 modules. Cardinal is a VST so runs inside the DAW. I forgot to say that Cardinal is also Free.
Beautiful TONE 🎹👍
A real time space trip ., I like those vibes and sounds🙌
Thanks John! I appreciate you checking it out.
@@ccjmusic I’m working on one of your compositions to add guitars to it , not yet finished… I hope you don’t mind … something completely different than ZIO Fender … layers of distorted guitars 🎸
@@JohnGSchuur sounds like a plan John. I don't mind at all. Looking forward to it for sure.
A cool and dramatic worldview👍Wonderful👍
Thank You! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Colin, this is an incredible piece of work! The custom synth you've built in VCV Rack sounds fantastic. The combination of the electronic, ambient, and experimental elements creates a truly unique and engaging soundscape. The real-time recording and the visually stunning fractal video complement the music perfectly. It's clear that you've put a lot of thought and effort into this project, and it shows. I'm excited to hear what you come up with next!
@@IntraMoeniaArt Thanks Marco! I have to say I have been really enjoying working in real-time lately. Once I get everything finalized in VCV Rack I will be able to integrate the hardware synths and guitar. I’m making a few tweaks and additions to what I thought was the final version. Playing around with it definitely sparks new ideas.
@@ccjmusic Keep experimenting, keep pushing boundaries, and never lose faith in what we're doing. Know that I'm always here to support you.
Oh yeah, that could take up hours and hours.
@@benpowersguitar It does for sure. I keep adding more features. lol
Awesome, the way it goes in and out and creates a tension. Good stuff.
@@benpowersguitar Thanks Ben! I’m really getting into creating a track in real-time lately. I haven’t even launched my DAW for the last 3 or 4 weeks.
@@ccjmusic I believe it man. So many cool ways to make music.
@@benpowersguitar yeah for sure Ben. I have even created it so I can play guitar through it with a built-in amp sim and optional distortion, that can also be fed through the filters and modulation.
What an athmosphere and sound! Thanks ...
@@fxtreffer Thanks Frank! I’m still tweaking things on my custom synth and hope to be able to get the exact mix of features to give my the perfect synth for my needs. It is close now for sure.
Wow beautiful effect 😱👏 well done my Friend 👍
@@ziofender6699 Thank You Fabio! I just need to figure out how to get the best out of it now.
Amazing !
@@moonandmelodies Thank You! I'm glad you liked it.
Class. Like the bit from 4:53
@@brooksideplaylists Thanks Mr. C! I hope I can make good use of it now it is "finished"
Spectacular! Great job, buddy!
@@DOALTRONIC-Aldo_Amodei Thanks Aldo!! I really appreciate your support always.
It's a beautiful game you play my friend! You've really achieved a great setup here and the sounds obtained prove it! With this and your enormous talent you will be creating new masterpieces!
@@DOALTRONIC-Aldo_Amodei Thanks Aldo! I hope I can do it justice now. It has some great features for me.
@@ccjmusic 👍
_I am first to comment?! Nice! It sounds to me like the gear that a lot of industrial musicians use for creating noise effects. That seems like something I’m looking to get anyway besides just recording sounds both at home and at work to createmy noises. 🏆🎶🎵🪓 I would definitely say you did a good job doing a demo of this!_
@@DielectricFailure Thanks John! Now you know why I like VCV Rack as it allowed me to create this custom synth.
Love how this one develops, very unexpected textures and sounding. It goes very well with the enigmatic visuals.
Thanks Fred! I'm sure I'm going to be creating some weird stuff with this virtual synth now it is finally finished. There has to be at least 100 modules in the background of this synth. The fact it has 80 patch points (48 out and 32 in) gives you an idea of the flexibility it will have. It has two 16 step sequencers, a built-in vocoder, the ability to play guitar through it, plus numerous other features. I'm going to post a screen shot as a community post here pretty soon.
This is AWESOME 👏👍
Thanks Fabio! Creating the synth that made this was definitely a labor or love. It is finally finished.
Weird and wonderful. Reminded me of very early TD
Thanks George! I have always been a fan of TD.
W😎W!
@@HyperspaceQ I've been playing around with VCV Rack a lot lately. It is definitely addictive.
A masterpiece of dark ambient. VCV Rack has been used impeccably to create a unique and immersive sonic experience. Well done Colin!!!
Thanks Marco! I'm still trying to get this synth finished. I am getting closer, but this morning I ran into an issue where the oscillators are unstable. I am trying to figure out what is going on still. Hopefully I can figure it out and have a finished version by the end of the weekend.
Ooooh... I want to try too... 👍👍👍👍
Yeah, you really should play around with VCV Rack Marco. It definitely allows creativity to flow.
Colin, this latest piece of yours is an extraordinary introspective journey. The drone sounds create a dark and enveloping atmosphere that has completely captivated me. There's a melancholic beauty in every note, a deep emotion that resonates with the soul. You've created a unique sonic world, a refuge for the soul. Congratulations!
Thanks Marco! You can see why I like VCV Rack as it can do so much.
Great COlin! Great to see how you create constant unpredictability in this track!
Thanks Maurizio! I have definitely learned a lot about VCV Rack over the past month. It was you who got me to look at it in depth.
You are definitely on the right track my friend! There is no doubt that your patience and talent seem to be endlessly infinite! Great job! 💪👍👏👏👏👏👏
@@DOALTRONIC-Aldo_Amodei Thanks Aldo! I have to admit, this has been a really enjoyable project. What started out as me trying to recreate the Crave has morphed into something much more, and much more powerful than the Crave. I have another few ideas for additional features, such as a dedicated gain control for the Ext Audio input, a Sub Oscillator, and possibly a couple of drum sounds.
Awesome 👍
@@ziofender6699 Thanks Fabio! This has been hard work, but definitely worth it. Having a completely custom virtual synth is a definite benefit.
Coliiin! The "humanoid" sounds of that module are crazy!
@@mauriziofaggion Thanks Maurizio! Yeah, that Macro Oscillator 2 has some great sounds and is perfect for injecting into this setup.
Does it come with instructions? 😄 Excellent. Always fascinated by what those virtual racks can do and what you come up with.
@@nolake I wish it did Fred. I have to keep trying to remember what I am trying to do to make sure it works. I don't know how many times I've changed it around.
Beautiful TONE 👏 well done Colin 👍
@@ziofender6699 Thanks Fabio! I'm looking forward to getting it finished so I can play around with it.
This must be like play with Propellerhead "REASON" ...
@@sondebueu I've never played around with Propellerhead Reason. Sounds like fun.
Take me to your leader👽
@@reekashade 😂
A little bit crazy. But I am sure: lots of fun!
@@fxtreffer Thanks Frank! Once I get it fully working it won't be so crazy. I was just testing things out and seeing how easy it will be to change things in real time. I do like the fact I added built-in recording capabilities. It makes it much easier to create quick videos.
@@ccjmusic I already thought that... ;-)
Very interesting. Good job
@@icu12cme Thanks Mr. C! I think this is a good start. I still need to get some stuff working, and may also add more features to it. Did you notice I added the ability to record to video and audio from the interface?
I'm stunned by that. So good!
@@EdoardoGastaldiMusic Thank You! Glad you enjoyed it.
I deeply admire your talent.
Thanks Marco! I have been working on this more and it is progressing nicely. I think the finished version should be a useful synth. It is moving away from the Crave a little, but it is definitely based on it with some useful additions.
@@ccjmusic I can't wait to see the final result!!!!
@@IntraMoeniaArt I just uploaded a video of the latest version with a bit more of it completed. There is still a bunch to do to get it finished.
@@ccjmusic I'm so excited to start experimenting with VCV Rack. Your tips are going to be invaluable. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
@@IntraMoeniaArt I think you will love it Marco! I still can’t believe I had it installed for close to a year before I started playing around with it.
After this, my brain just shut down! You're a beast, I don't think I could ever do anything like that. Insane!
I've been adding a bunch more and making what was already done more efficient so the final version will look different to this. It is definitely fun to play with while developing it. I plan to add a couple of effects to it that aren't in the Crave. Plus I am expanding on its patching capabilities.
@@ccjmusic As I always say.... You are unstoppable 😀😀👏🏼👏🏼
BORING!!!!!!
@@mikebon8352 Thanks for your honest comment. All feedback is good.
Oooh Colin! What a nice module! Never seen before!
@@mauriziofaggion Thanks Maurizio! I am making some changes to it still. It is made with the modules available by MindMeld if I'm remembering correctly. They have modules that you map to other modules to control them.
Beatiful game my friend! 👍
@@DOALTRONIC-Aldo_Amodei Thanks Aldo! I'm still working on getting to work as I want it too. I do at least have the sequencer working now. I'm reworking some other parts of it and changing the UI some. It is a fun exercise.
Nice sutup, brother! A web of wires trapping knobs! 🕷🕸🕷🕸🕷 Yeah! I already want to hear what comes out of all this together with CCJ's talent!🤗
Thanks Aldo! I just uploading a really basic test that has the mess out of the way and gives a better idea of what I'm trying to do. The built-in keyboard and sequencer aren't working yet. But you will get the idea.
Hello CCJ! Hope you are doing well and you had a great summer cabin fever is about to set in soon 😂
Hey Elvis! How are you doing? Things have been pretty much the same as always here. Still making music and animations as always. I'm currently addicted to this virtual modular synthesizer program as you can tell. lol
@@ccjmusic Hahahahahaha! Cool you have a new virtual tool I know how your addiction is to those things LMAO! hope it wasn't to expensive....
@@ElvisPretzel-rv3bg Definitely addictive and also FREE!!!
🤣🤣🤣
I agree Fred! It is obvious why people don't try and recreate an existing synth within VCV Rack. It would be a much different situation if I was to try and create a module version, but using existing modules and trying to get around all their limitations is a good way to learn VCV Rack. Hopefully I will get it all working at some point soon. It would have been so much easier if the handful of interface elements available to hide the modules behind was more extensive. Things like lights and displays that can be accessed and manipulated. Maybe one day the developer will add to the elements available. Currently all that is available are knobs, buttons, sliders, and spacers.
I personally need to touch and feel the machine, the knobs,… Not saying virtual rack are a bad thing, not at all, just saying it’s not my cup of tea. Maybe I’m too lazy to dive into that many wires 😁
@@nolake I know what you mean. I much prefer being able to manipulate real knobs and sliders etc. I also know that there is no way I could afford to buy the hardware for everything, so I think VCV Rack is a great alternative for me. It also feeds my creative need. So I have 3 creative outlets with this. Creating the music, the animations, and the tools.
Wow beautiful 👏👍
Thanks Fabio! Hopefully once it is fished it will have been worth all the hassle.
Awesome song, love it. Your stuff is always amazing
Thanks! I really appreciate that!
Dear Colin, Taking the opportunity of David Gilmour's concert, I took a break to travel around my country (it's been a long time since I did it last). As soon as I return, I will listen to your work in my studio instead of with my phone headphones. It has already been a unique experience, I can't imagine what it will be like to listen to it again with my Hi-Fi system. See you soon, my dear friend.
Hey Marco! I'm glad you are having a good time. I assume the gig lived up to expectations. I hope you are also having a great time traveling and exploring. It has been a really long time since I went exploring anywhere, so I will do it through you. I have been experimenting still and this morning I recorded a test with VCV Rack with the SH-4d, Crave, Guitar, Noise, Bass and Drums all playing at once and all through VCV Rack. It is a pity I sounded awful on the guitar and the rest was not the best either, but the point was to test that I could record all at the same time and that was successful.
@@ccjmusic Colin, your spirit is truly one-of-a-kind. Your adventurous musical journey is both inspiring and admirable. Thank you for encouraging me to keep playing and dreaming. These days have been a magical journey through time. Gilmour's music, the ancient city of Rome, and the heart of Italy have enriched my soul. See you soon, dear friend.
@@IntraMoeniaArt I'm so glad you have been having a great week Marco! You will have to watch the Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii video to combine your experiences this week, and to further give you musical inspiration. You can't beat the version of "Echoes" from that video.
@@ccjmusic Yes, I've been thinking about it for a while, and I'll definitely do it.
