2018 08 Cruising Maine - Brooklin to Rockland
We made the short trek from Camden to Brooklin in heavy fog, dodging lobster pots along the way. In Brooklin, home of the Wooden Boat School, we watched the Wood Boat Regatta before heading on to Rockland

2017 08 Working on Our Boat
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.7 лет назад
We spent most of May and June at Front Street Shipyard doing some maintenance work. This included removing shafts and props for testing and balancing, servicing entire hydraulic system and stabilizers, servicing the crane, installing new engine alternators, replacing anchor chain, new outboards on tender, and various other projects. More info on maintenance can be found on our May blog post at ...

2016 06 Five Nordhavns in the Bahamas (Improved version)
Просмотров 16 тыс.8 лет назад
In the Bahamas we had an impromptu gathering of five Nordhavn's, ranging in size from 46 to 76 feet. This video is aerial footage shot from a drone by the talented and handsome Laust on L'Adagio. (this is a replacement of the original which was poor quality and had some music that caused it to be blocked in some countries)
2016 06 Katie's Dive Trip
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.8 лет назад
Kathy's cousin Bri brought her daughter Katie for a visit so she could do some diving. Katie did a Girl Scout project on coral reefs and following that got her dive certification. We did some great dives in the Exumas at Thunderball Grotto and Jeep Reef. We also visited the swimming pigs, did plenty of snorkeling, hiking and paddle boarding.

2016 01 Passage from Portsmouth, VA to Morehead City, NC
Просмотров 6 тыс.8 лет назад
We had a short weather window to make a run from Portsmouth, VA down the Elizabeth River to the Chesapeake Bay, then around Cape Hatteras and on to Morehead City, NC. We passed some interesting traffic on the way out, then had an uneventful offshore passage with weather developing right on schedule as we got to Morehead City.
2016 01 Potomac River to Portsmouth, VA
Просмотров 6 тыс.8 лет назад
After a wonderful 3-month stay at National Harbor, MD, we departed on New Year's Eve to head south down the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay to Portsmouth, VA. We did 3 day sails, anchoring at night with light winds. We never unpinned our stabilizers and encountered little traffic en route. This video is not terribly exciting, but does show a bit of the trip as well as some of our anchoring and...
2015 09 Shear Madness Cruising Past Fort McHenry
Просмотров 2 тыс.9 лет назад
As we headed into Baltimore's Inner Harbor, we passed Fort McHenry, where Francis Scott Key penned the poem "Defense of Fort McHenry" after watching the bombardment by British Ships in 1812. It later became the Star Spangled Banner and was adopted as the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.

This is a video tour of Shear Madness - a twin engine, forward pilot house Nordhavn 72. The tour includes living spaces, machinery and engine room, and haul out shots - the living spaces are first, so if that's all you're interested in, you can just watch the first few minutes. This is a viewer requested video - if you have requests for other videos you'd like to see, please let me know!
2015 06 Shear Madness Guests Come Cruising

We welcomed some guests aboard to give them a taste of the cruising life. They were able to experience snorkeling, offshore passages, getting ashore by tender, loading and offloading the tender, anchoring, paddle boarding, visiting other boats, and much more!
2015 05 Shear Madness Passage to Charleston
Просмотров 10 тыс.9 лет назад
After a break for some maintenance and land travel, it was time to get back to cruising! This was a short 200-mile passage from Cape Lookout, NC to Charleston, SC with ideal conditions. We spent some time in the flybridge, saw some incredible dolphin shows, and caught two nice mahi mahis. A very nice passage indeed!
2015-05 Shear Madness Replacing Engine Exhaust System
Просмотров 25 тыс.9 лет назад
For serious geeks only! This video is about replacing the exhaust risers on our twin Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines. It's a lengthy process where we started by soliciting bids from vendors to build the new system and selecting Metcalf Marine in Florida to fabricate the system and Western Branch Diesel in NC to install and test. Then we had to un-install the old risers, send them to Metcalfe, ...

Tung chi fung bok da!
that is "Alantide" at 0:46. Saw her on the hard for a refit in 2017 at FSS. Beautiful boat
Strange your snubber failed. Flaw in the boats design. Don't really need one, especially with that much chain out. You can just run a line straight over your anchor mount to the cleat.
Can someone enlighten me what is ( RI ) means ??? Thx 👍🏼⛵🌊💪👍🏽🙏🙏🙏💖
I have anchored there many many times
foolish and reckless habits no matter how well at that you thjink you are!wear a life jacket!
Next time you really want to fish around Hatteras, and rough water often helps hide leaders and tackle.
Thanks for sharing. Lovely ship.
Dudes gotta sunfish on acting like it's a marlin. What an idiot
Thank you for taking the time and effort to record what you did and how you did it. Very informative and interesting video.
I saw this vid before and seeing it was about 5 years ago you ever consider lithium bats by now jist wondering..
Man that wasn't shit. I've been a master on a tugboat for 23 years a normal thunderstorm in the gulf of Mexico is worse then that. If y'all thought that storm was bad please please stay tired off to your dock and don't come out
I don’t see Captain Kate McCue coming down on you from the bridge of her $900 million-dollar ship telling you that some of your experiences ain’t shit. Oh that’s right; you only criticize others without putting up any content of your own.
What was with the leak?
Hey, Kathy, this was the perfect time for your other half to push you over the side and sequester the proceeds of the both for himself. Like they do in the movies. But good seamanship is good commonsense. Good decision to head out into more roomy waters and anchor. Being at the dock was never a good idea.
How are things on land?
Are you guys still out and about haven’t seen your videos lately
No, we retired from cruising. Shear Madness is now Alchemy and is continuing her adventures with wonderful new owners. She's in England now and we're living in Colorado - mountain time!
Hello Kathy Clark, Recently looking through some of photos made while onboard Seanachai (our C-22 sailboat) homeport Charleston, SC. Found a shot of Shear Madness I made on May 29, 2015. We were both heading up the Wando River. Decided to see if I could find anything about the vessel and was delighted to find this channel. Fascinating to learn about your expeditions. All the best, Liz
We had some great times in Charleston. Spent two 4th of July's there anchored near Ft. Sumter. Great fireworks! We're retired from cruising now and enjoying mountain time in Colorado.
We've anchored right where you were anchored. Glad you made it thru okay. By the way my Father was a Machinist Mate on the USS Shenandoah ZR-1 Airship.
It was a great spot to ride it out. And we enjoyed our time in that area.
Boy, would I love to be on board. Setting in the Pilot House checking out all the gauges and listening to the engines purr.
We do miss it! But we are enjoying some mountain time now. Shear Madness is now Alchemy and is in the UK
Download the Coast Guard’s oceanbouy APP.
I don’t motor in the dark. Too dangerous. Ok, I’m a chicken.
Only when well offshore!
Cool to see the SU flag as I live in Winchester.
I was on the board at SU for a few years before I left to go cruising. Great school!
Are you guys still sailing in the Nordhavn?
No, we retired from cruising and now live in Colorado - mountain time! Shear Madness is now Alchemy and is in the UK
Very nice. This was a great escape from the riots and looting on the south side of Chicago 31MAY2020 2330hrs. The mahi looks yummy.
Glad you found a diversion! The ahi was indeed yummy!
Damn one grounding plate dedicated to a radio!
:)
You can see where the saying the tip of iceberg comes from
It was amazing how noisy they are!
Epic wow drone fotage is awsome
Sadly the drone crashed in Greenland (it was our cruising partners, not ours). Wish we could have got more footage before it was lost.
Videos like this give hope for humanity and fun people. ;)
You gotta have a sense of humor!
Boats like yours and your fantastic video is the reason too buy lottery tickets. a life on the water, how marvelous. thankyou.
Glad you enjoyed it
nice
Thanks
Well done quite enjoyable
Great camera work;-)))))))
Thank you very much!
Well played!!
Love it By the way...do you do normal chart plotting everynow and then or you just continue with the chart plotter!? Keep it going Love your videos God Bless
We kept a log which we updated every hour. Entries included current location. We did not plot our course on paper charts but did have them available. We had several GPS's for backup, including handheld.
First thanks for sharing your experience, And you guys did a great job 👍🏼 Well done all. As an ex-mariner of VLCC’s and been in typhoons, I would say that your precaution measures were of a high standard taking into account the tonnage of your vessel and the preparations you took, and the monitoring of the anchor drag status, and dealing with the snapped snubber in a prompt professional manner. May you all have pleasant and safe future passages. Keep the good work God Bless
What year is this beauty?

@Kathy Clark if you don't mind me asking, what was the purchase price for your Nordhavn 72?
Suggest you look at norhdhavn.com brokerage listings to get an idea of costs.
You were obviously very well sheltered, judging by the video the seas were relatively calm, even if the wind was howling.
Yes, we picked a good spot and were lucky!
Thanks for all your videos. I hope you and all your family are doing well. Along with Shear Madness.
That was a nice little blow
Well done!
What a super video. You don’t need to be a Spielberg or a Scorsese to engage a viewer, and I just loved watching this. The discipline and attention to procedures is really admirable to watch - you embark on something like this and I guess learn not to cut corners in any respect. A thoroughly interesting watch. Thank you for this window on your world.
Great video work, thanks for sharing.
Absolutely love Nordhavns. What’s the longest non stop trip you’ve been on?
I would never enter an engine room without a full fire proof body suit, equipped with full breathing apparatus.
And no life jacket while working outboard of the rail. Not too smart a move especially in the windy conditions. A sudden gust could pitch you overboard!
Be careful gutting your fish while the boat is in motion, if you hit a breaker you will lose your footing and slip and the knife could end up gutting you?
Nice boat!! I'm guess you run off of battery power when the engines are off? So you can surf the web and make popcorn. Storms are fun.
Generators and large house battery bank. Microwave for popcorn and DirecTV for movies and TV
To prevent chafing, we got an old fire hose and cut sections to thread the lines through. Works GREAT, and cheap too. We threw a BBQ for the local fire department to thank them for the old hoses which they gave to us for free. We shared them with other boats.
Yes, we did that later on. Great idea!
We survived Hurricane Sandy on the S Shore of Long Island. 9 Days on a whole house generator.
Glad you survived! It was a bad one. So sad to see what Dorian did to Abaco - we spent some good times there.
@@nordhavn72 We moved to S Florida 2015, West Palm Beach, 7 miles inland. We Survived Irma, Dorian wasn't so terrible where we live, rain and a little windy for a couple of days. The Bahamas sadly took Dorians wrath Cat 5 Hurricane.
