For a lawsuit to make, the plantiff has to prove injury. Electric fences don't injure animals by design, so I cannot see any chance of an electric fence touching creating a big liability for those who use them. Also, for a person to touch any electric fence that is not on their property, they have to trespass. In most jurisdictions landowners are not held liable for the injuries of trespassers. ANY jurisdiction can be different, so the trick is to know yours when it comes to legal/liability issues. All that said doesn't mean some idiot client/lawyer pair might not file suit, but the courts are used to throwing out garbage. They do it every day. Another point: severity of injuries is usually approximated by medical expenses related to that injury. I've yet to hear of any medical procedure or Rx needed to fix the injuries of a hot wire touching--even when a kid urinates on one, no one goes to the ER. 🤣

Gabe Brown got me interested, then Greg Judy showed me how. Teddy Gentry is near enough to assure me that it all works right here with good genetics and proper management. I steered away from farming for years because everyone was going broke. NOW I'm looking for a retirement in grazing because I do have land and prefer working out of doors than anywhere else. I cannot wait to lease more land for expansion-when the animals can fund it.

I did just get the ATV--600# dry, add me (160) and some gear call it 1000#, that's divided by the surface area of the four. My truck weighs 8000#, so is putting down 2000 per tire on average--that's degenerative to pastures like 1400# cows are, especially if it's damp.

@wadepatton2433 First......I do not "hate " Greg Judy......or his practices ! Im bringing out the realities in farming / grazing . Im a farmer.. milked cows for 40+ plus years. Rotationally grazed the milk cows when ever possible on 100 acres. Myself I never wormed my cows. I also raise corn....and since I sold the milk cows 5 years ago I grow soybeans and now have stock cows. Ive used round up since it came out. I do not have any issues with round up. Greg Judy seems to have issues with it though. Its all he can bring up....saying the next door neighbors soils are dead. Imagine if your his neighbor and hes saying that about your operation.. when having row crops instead of beef ?? Fence line trees....and multiflora rose ... I have a timber.. and deal with it myself. I do not spray to kill everything...and thats somewhat suggesting using round up. Greg Judy dont seem to have a clue what row crop farmers elect to use in spraying ! Bottom line in that situation farmers tend to reach out in using other herbicides. Not just round up. Example....select spraying / treatment of unwanted trees/ brush. Ive been using Pathfinder for 10 years now. Its a target herbicide. No need to cut trees / brush. Just treat and they are dead ! ( a squirt ) . Some say its expensive at 400 dollars for 5 gallons. So compared to having to cut trees / brush.. using a chain saw and getting hurt....or a back hoe or dozer ? Pathfinder is " cheap " ! I even mentioned this product to Greg. He instantly blocked me. Most likely because it wasnt his idea ! Give me a breck. Greg Judy is making money from.......how many ( as he calls them ) streams of income ?? Not just the beef operation. No one can compare apples to apples in that respect ! A few years ago I asked Greg Judy if his cattle had foot problems and what he does to cure those problems. He stated he has no foot problems in his cattle. So.... later in watching his cattle drive and at the end of the cattle drive.....tada !!! Over 7 cows were slow and limping alone. ( of course at the end ). I commented in that video. Now hes careful not to show the end cattle of his cattle drives ! Same with pink eye.......Greg said he had no issues with pink eye.......and a few videos later cattle almost ran him over. They could not see.....blind with pink eye. Now he take care never to show that also ! Trust me. Greg Judy is only showing and telling what makes him money ! Its his bottom line MONEY !

Awesome. I've just found Jim Gerrish via this group (subbed) and know of Teddy because of Greg Judy. REGEN is the core of my purpose and future. Got a little bit of land and going to get it going, profitable, and then lease more land. Love to see more folks moving their animals around here. In five years I've seen _TWO_ ranchers using portable wire and focused grazing in my part of the state, which is about 100 miles north of Teddy.

I think the south poll is amazing. Maybe the most amazing thing since the Cornish cross (but more efficient) The only drawback to the south poll from a strictly homesteading standpoint, is the milk production. I think either a Senapol x jersey Senapol x dexter or Senapol x milking Devon And then cross this back to the south poll. I’d love to experiment with this one day!

What is a good number to start with... I read someplace on how to pick the best from a group if you couldn't inspect many nor go back after you testing. (like dating) You test the first seven and record the best. After that, you keep the first that is better than the best of seven. It's better than 90% you found the best in the group and almost certain you are in the top 10%.

If this is not correct, please please show me where it was that definition. I will never get locked into calling something by a certain phrase, I believe that makes us narrow minded, it is all about observation, so I guess I can claim that I first called it EOG or educated observational grazing.

Well, I love the concept, but I find myself tied to commodity agriculture. As a no till, controlled traffic, organic farmer whose entire operation is 1/2 pasture for grazing, and the other 1/2 is alternating 13.3’ twin 20” row crops, and 13.3’ strips of forage that we bale, the prices I get are tied to the conventional side. Since cattle and poultry are the sole source of fertility, I need access to calves that I can grass background for 6 months. Get them off the farm before they get over 800 lbs. We have a great farm to fork operation also, with grass fed genetics, but quite frankly, I can’t get enough product sold to maintain a herd size large enough to meet all my fertility requirements. The original home farm, which is 2450 acres, 1700 on which farm equipment can function, the rest is permanent pasture, silvo pasture and healthy 60% canopy timber.

All I ever wanted was a small holding that covered the expenses of owning it, all the while, getting to enjoy the lifestyle. I was in the right place at the right time. It was right when the movement hit and we grew responsibly at break neck speed. I kept the off farm career for over 20 yrs though.

The beauty of capitalism, is someone very well might, and probably will move in and do it better, and cheaper than you. People who are all smiles now, will be butt hurt and ask themselves, and even you directly, why you were so high, for so long. I’ve initially priced myself against a few other sources, and while they went up a lot, especially the last couple of years, my prices are exactly the same as they were 23 years ago. The kicker is they have to spend $1000 within every 12 month period since we identified them as a customer. Or, they can out right purchase a membership. Otherwise, I’ve gone up 40%, which is still less than the rate of inflation, and the market value. The long game is this, if you do right by people, they know it, and in the end, if they had to pay you a little more for the benefit of knowing who they are dealing with and knowing what they are going to get, they will. Anybody who isn’t constantly developing systems and procedures that allow the consumer to get real measurable value right now, while the grocery stores are really high, will lose what they built. I’ve been doing this 23 years. I stopped counting at 72 specialty producers who have made a run of it in a 4-5 county area in which we farm. I don’t have to freeze it, ship it, they come to me, and it all goes out the door as fast as I can produce it. Every enterprise over laps with several others, and every business shows an accounting profit along the way.

At 22:00 Mr. Gentry states he removes bulls calves at eight months because they try to breed and heifer calves about 65 days before expected calving; he is in Northeast Alabama. Some literature states the minimum nursing time for calf development is 60 days and seven months is the longest nursing time that should be allowed. In Central Illinois calving in April and mid-May the calves are five or six months old by late October when our season shift occurs. So October 22nd or whenever that happens is a good time to think about installing plastic Nose Weaning Rings. Then in the cold wind the Under isn't getting chaffed. He spoke about having good Udders that last fifteen years and I understand the problem if the calves are allowed to suckle for nearly ten months, ha ha. Give the Mama's a break, install a plastic Nose Weaning Ring at six months.
