2020 Harley Davidson Livewire - Second ‘CALL SERVICE’ alert and non-start!
Просмотров 60Месяц назад
I was leaving work and had quickly pressed the start button while reversing the bike out of the parking spot. A ‘CALL SERVICE’ alert showed on the dash and the bike would not start up. I go through my thoughts as I head home after finally getting it going.
Second 100km commute, without a top up charge, on 2020 Harley Davidson LiveWire. 200km, one charge
Просмотров 1132 месяца назад
This is the second 100km round trip on a single charge on my 2020 Harley Davidson LiveWire. The two days together got around 194km out of the single charge and there was still nearly 30km left on the range estimate. I think 220km would have been achieved easily and I wouldn’t be surprised if it could have gone even further. The ‘Bullet Brake’ was a bit disappointing, but I have been working tow...
Today I messed up… bike hits car while lane splitting. Motorbike dash cam!

Commuting home from work I was squeezing through a tight gap. The truck beside held my attention a bit too long and I didn’t check the clearance to the car mirror beside me. The ball on the end of the brake lever got caught in the rim of the rear view mirror, pulling on the brake and causing me to steer towards the car. Luckily damage to both the car and my bike was avoided. I apologised and wa...
How waterproof is the Neewer CM28? Feat. 2020 Harley Davidson LiveWire in the rain

The Neewer CM28 doesn’t claim to be waterproof, but since I got caught in the rain I may as well report how it went… I’m yet to see if I can revive it again (this is the second time it has been wet to failure). The jury is in! It was revived and is functioning perfectly. The fix was to place it in a bag of dry rice, then heat up a heat pack. The bag of rice containing the wireless microphone wa...

I was in a rush to get home, but upon trying to start my Harley Davidson I got a ‘call service’ notification on the screen. There is a bit of heavy breathing in this clip, I had p...
2020 Harley Davidson LiveWire. A quick pre-work top up after EVSE did not initiate overnight.
Просмотров 993 месяца назад
I set the EVSE count down timer for 6hrs to take advantage of cheap ‘off-peak’ electricity costs. The bike did not accept the charge, I think, due to going into ‘sleep’ mode. I ended up using a ‘Chargefox’ station to get 2.15 kWh, which ended up costing absolutely nothing!
Grabbing a quick charge… or not… 2020 Harley Davidson LiveWire

I headed down to the local Harley dealer, Morgan and Wacker at Newstead, Brisbane to get a quick charge. Overall it was a bit dissatisfying! Broken infrastructure that seems to be unlikely to be fixed due to LiveWire reportedly not supplying parts to Harley Davidson 😤
First 100km round trip commute on my 2020 Harley Davidson Livewire.

This is the inaugural commute for me on my 2020 Harley Davidson Livewire. I had taken delivery of the bike the day prior and was keen to know if I had made the right decision. This bike was planned to be my primary mode of transportation to and from my work. I live around 45km from my place of employment. From what I had been told, this bike would get around 150-170km of range, but that number ...

2021 Harley Davidson Livewire test ride
Просмотров 7313 месяца назад
I had already test ridden both the 2024 Zero SR and 2023 Energica Esse Esse 9. The Harley Livewire was the last electric motorcycle that I wanted to test ride before making my decision. The Harley Livewire represent fairly good value currently in the Australian used electric motorcycle market, which I think is in part due to the fact that most are coming out of their new motorcycle warranty. 2024 Zero SR second test ride (after Energica Esse Esse 9)

I was down at ‘Australian Electric Motor Co’ (AEMC) test riding the 2023 Energica Esse Esse 9 and on Alex’s recommendation did a back to back ride with the 2024 Zero SR. The EsseEsse has quite a few things right over the SR. The throttle is much more lively on the EsseEsse! The brakes are also far stronger, which is not a huge surprise given that the EsseEsse is stock with Brembo and the SR run...
Energica Esse Esse 9 test ride. Thanks Australian Electric Motor Co at Burleigh for the opportunity
Просмотров 7024 месяца назад
I have been test riding electric bikes to select which one I will purchase. The Energica Esse Esse 9 is awesome! My only complaint is that the throttle is a bit light. The EsseEsse eclipses the Zero SR for performance, but this is reflected in the purchase price. If you are in SEQ or northern NSW, ‘Australian Electric Motor Co’ (AEMC) is really the only place to see these bikes! Not only becaus...
Stepping the mast on our Ross 780 MK1 trailer sailer, ready for the weekend on Moreton Bay
Просмотров 1245 месяцев назад
Stepping the mast on our Ross 780 MK1 is a bit of a chore, but we are getting better at it. Next time we are going to leave the sail on the boom to save a little more time. Our home made, height adjustable mast crutch makes it doable, but ideally we would be able to drop the keel right down onto the ground. Currently the keel falls down onto a cross member of the trailer chassis.

      I ended up buying a Harley Livewire, it was the most cost effective entry into performance electric bikes. I have been riding it daily for my 100km round trip commute. It does have type 3 fast charging, but a little smaller battery than the EsseEsse and Eva. After riding it 5000km since I purchased it, I have no doubt that I could use it for touring. I have never toured on a bike though, so unlikely to be something that is required of any bike I own. I will check out your channel👍

    I don't think it's anything you are doing wrong. My livewire screen would reset when I was reversing. And I thought like you , reversing was part of the problem. It took me a while to realise that turning the handle bars hard left and right caused the problem. It turns out that the wiring harness to the screen was too tight. From factory and had broken a wire on the loom. You should be able to start while reversing.

    • @BikesBoatsBees
      @BikesBoatsBees Месяц назад

      Thanks for that info. There are a couple of glitches… overall it is a great bike and there is nothing that is a deal breaker. If I reverse after switching the kill switch to run, the bike will always go into a ‘safe’ mode. Cycling the kill switch for and back on fixes it. I guess I am hopeful that it is a glitch I can learn and avoid.

    • @BikesBoatsBees
      @BikesBoatsBees 3 месяца назад

      @@alexgoodman698 Fast charging does cause more battery degradation than type 1 charging, but I don’t think that there is a formula. I watched a RUclips clip where the owner lived in an apartment, so only fast charged, he had not seen any noticeable degradation. Part of this could be due to the battery being well cooled, part could be that the useable battery capacity of the livewire is less than its actual capacity, so you have a buffer… Have you joined the Australian LiveWire owners FB group? Alan added me to the WhatsApp group ’The Livewire guys’ which is where the meetup is being organised from. We were going to meet today, but the threat of rain scared us off😂

      The Livewire brand has been spun off to it's own company, that said HD isn't interested in cheap bikes. They're very much a boutique brand, catering to a certain customer base. Which they have recently pissed off as of late.

    • @BikesBoatsBees
      @BikesBoatsBees 3 месяца назад

      The bike certainly feels ‘high end’. I test rode Zero and in comparison they felt a little unrefined, just not as ‘lively’ as the Livewire. I think HD still have a 75% stake in LiveWire, so still very much a HD brand. I must admit, I haven’t followed the HD brand apart from their Livewire.
