We touched on humor, and I think this talk covers it well. It even gets into the subtle aspect of giving robots/AI the negative human experiences that may be required for actual intelligence. ruclips.net/video/pMgqSJP9dN8/видео.html

Greetings Sirs, I enjoyed your episode very much. I would like to offer another ism very prevalent and problematic in our society today that I see opposite skepticism-fanaticism. I would describe fanaticism as the continual adherence to a concept or belief in light of facts opposing those concepts or beliefs-it can be seen as a denial of reality (if you trust the other person’s perspective of such reality). I think that the virtues, applied without balance, can become vices, and that fanaticism is the chivalric virtues of loyalty or faith taken to such a degree that they become vices. I think that it is through the chivalric virtues of courage and humility-the courage to admit other perspectives and the humility to understand that you may be in error-that one can maintain the goodness of the other two virtues and help one lead a knightly life. Thank you for giving me a chance to think deeply about these concepts and for sharing these ideas with the world-one step in your optimistic process to help inspire others to lead a knightly life, grounded in the chivalric virtues. Well done!

In some instances, Quick Fix people may be under considerable duress. Things might be boiling over. There’s a film called The War at Home (not the TV series) about the late sixties and very early 1970s in Madison, Wisconsin home to one of the most violent student movements in the US. I remember my dad being trapped on campus in his office during some of the anti Vietnam war protests, and I will never forget the facade of Sterling Hall after the Bombing. Those students were wrong…but so was Vietnam. I remember being IN the anti Iraqi Freedom protests in Ann Arbor. We were doing all we could to keep peaceful, focused; avoiding violence at all costs. We worked with the police to keep it peaceful. Even formed the then largest peace sign which an aircraft photographed. Was in a protest on the night the military action began. During a severe thunderstorm when the sirens went off. That was a mess!

As someone who transitioned hormonally and surgically (from male to female) 20 years ago, I don’t claim any particular athleticism. Both then again, I’m also 60. Those 20+ years are key though. Olympic athletes are generally much younger, and not medically transitioned for very long. I de-bulked tremendously…with time. I also was never a competitive athlete, except for a Summer Swim league in my teenage years. I was a consistent honorable mention. It’s my favorite form of athleticism! I also had a huge amount of therapy involved as I came out, and I knew who I really was when I was four years old. I was attacked for being effeminate. I can take a beating, and escape one…but I’m nobody’s fighter. I have to wonder how wise it is, AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, for transgender athletes to try and compete on an Olympic level, or even in collegiate athletics. TS/TG folks have other mountains to move, never mind non binary folks. The whole bathroom brouhaha is not helpful. Going to the loo is not a political matter if you’re just desperate to go! No statement involved, just comfort. I would not wish to go to a men’s room…it would be dangerous for me. Ask your wives about their comfort. I’m lucky, I blend in. I feel normal in the women’s bathroom. And I don’t ruffle feathers.

Based on your ending discussion, potential topic idea: what has learning SCA fighting taught you over your lifetime? I think it is just more than the physical aspect and techniques. That there is some outlook on life, philosophy, reacting to things, etc. You two have very long experience in this area.

I can verify that menu planners and Chefs use anchor items and menu structure to influence sales, putting high margin items second or third fron the top is another common tactic. I can never hear enough about cognitive bias, I can't afford for my parenting decisions to be influenced in ways I don't understand. I am 53 and my son is 8, and you can paint the rest of that picture, in fact you will have to, because I had better get back to work!

On the Federal level, transgender government employees, and contractors of the Federal government, are covered. Only these people, not day to day citizens. Day to day citizens are only covered if the state covers it. Michigan has protected us for about a year.

The process for medical transition is called the Benjamin, (or WPATH now) protocol. It’s designed to make sure you don’t end up doing something very unsuitable, and essentially irreversible to themselves. Before coming out to my barony, I was in therapy for a long time, putting steps in place to move forward, including getting socialized to live as a woman, developing a support network, etc. I was out to a number of barony friends, and on hormones. It wasn’t just a choice, it was a commitment to myself

I’m anticipating the court will rule that medical personnel are protected if they refuse to treat someone they find objectionable, even if it’s necessary to save life.

This is a most illuminating podcast, and thank you for taking on these topics. I found that my local group was extremely gracious when I transitioned. I have no doubt the situation made some people uncomfortable. I hope I was gracious ❤ in so doing. I never felt unsafe, and in fact received a level of support and care that warms my heart to this day. Whereas, I felt I had to leave a Colonial reenactment group because of hard feelings expressed. The grace of the SCA was not present in that group. I simply let them keep their beliefs to themselves, by being absent. I say all this because I am very ambivalent about the Prince who wandered. An olive branch is not ignoble, even though I’m not certain tolerance would await me as an ambassador. By the same token, the SCA didn’t sanction it, nor had the SMA, as you pointed out. The SMA might get used to me, though, as time went by. In person, I can be very gracious, and I believe that grace helped me in my local group, for those who had a measure of incredulity. I have a courage that helps me stand my ground at the same time as I point out their fallacy. If my actions fail yeah, I walk out of their lives. I’m not certain what to think, at the moment. I want to think the best of people. I want that for myself, and everyone around me.

Regarding the trim incident, it goes beyond the fylfot; it also incorporated a double lightning bolt motif, which doubles down on the problem for obvious reasons. People in this historical organization understand the historical context of the symbol, but also understand that the symbol is banned from use in heraldry for an excellent reason, and that historical reenactment has enough of a reputation as a refuge for fascists (we do our best to run them out but they're constantly trying to move in) that we cannot risk encouraging them or displaying to the outside world what *appears to be* their symbols even if they historically aren't.
