Je me souviens qu'un habitant de St Nazaire avait essayé de jeter un comédien dans le port, choqué par la présence de ces allemands en ville. Certains figurants étant français il y a eu quelques accrochages. 😂. On oublie pas, on ne pardonne pas. 😢
No sympathy for these murdering Nazi assholes……killing thousands of unarmed British merchant sailors…….don’t glorify their disgusting deeds…..go check your history!
I've exhausted my library of superlatives of this film. It is the one film I will watch endlessly, it's brilliance is missed by the shitheads in hollywood, etc. This is THE film to learn from, the best ever made. Fuck you Lucas and Disney,
*I LOVE the smell of machinery and all sorts of fuels and oils...for whatever reason I find them very calming and reassuring* ( *The scent from a new vehicle is like an ambrosia to me...the smell from new tires is also pleasing, like the scent of a woman's sweat* ) *How phucking weird is that?* *I've always been like this, even as a kid* _________ *Dirty oil is upsetting to me...like the smell of cat-sh!t* ( *WTF is wrong w/me?* ) *Why do perfumes make me gag?*
Its a travesty to advertise the utterly shit modern TV series next to this masterpiece classic. NO revisionist agenda, no politically correct BS or identity politics nonsense.

My dad watched this movie on one of the rigs in the North Sea when it first came out. It had hit a little different in the middle of a freezing ocean for months at a time.
Amazing film. These men don't realize the consequences of what they do to other men. Some sailors of ships that were torpedoed, died really horrible, grisly deaths, if they were lucky they only drowned. Shows why war is terrible.
They absolutely do understand the consequences. Bear in mind, from their pov, they are simply defending their country after the Allies declared war on them. It's kill or be killed.
No matter how hard I look I can't find the english dubbed version of this movie and Henk only has this part... with subtitles, not the rest of the movie. This must be the one movie they should have dubbed in english and if I recall, they did and I watched it dubbed but I can't find it. Can anyone help?
What a huge huge difference air conditioning makes in morale and efficiency. What a drastically different experience serving on board a sub, warship, warplane, or tank is when you have it.
He was a war journalist on his first patrol-which makes him an outsider. Him getting in the way and taking pictures of 'proper heroes' greasing up torpedoes aggravated the old hands. He deserved that and their NCO agreed after he left in shame. I'm sure their Kapitan-Leutnant would laugh at him had he reported it, much like the enlisted 'fire drill' pissing on his car at the beginning. The officers knew this was a crap job with a high mortality rate and tolerated a lot if the men were doing their jobs.
Thanks Henk.. this is one of the best movies I have ever seen.. I was on a german U-boat in the late 60's at the chicago museum of science and industry.. I can not imagine what it must have been like for those men.. and with the advent of this movie I could see, hear, and feel the suffering.. It has been awhile since I have seen it I must go revisit this movie again..

I'd like to have seen Tom hanks and greyhound sink it
The codes were broken early in the war and so communications were well known to the Brits. The Germans had no chances of winning. Let's go Brandon.
I haven't seen half of these scenes!
Never understood how an enlisted man throws an oily rag at an office in Nazi Germany and gets away with it

Without the N. Ireland airbases, these U boats may have succeeded. Long range flights over the Atlantic proved critical.
The dialog at 10:24 between the two sailors is the best part of the movie. Makes it worth watching.
"Ist es was geiles, dann erzaehl" Fucking hilarious!

Wer war das? WER WAR DAS???
The stench must have been unbearable
All the bo and farts and splooge everywhere. Probably couldn't smell anything after awhile
The US Navy used to call their subs "pig boats" for that reason.
No another part???

Exquisite film.
You know it!
I watched this in the 80's on BBC 2. Best ever portrayal of U boat men in the second world war
German U boats.......suffered the worst losses than any other theater of war.....
They should do more of these kind of movies.

THIS MOVIE IS WORTH WATCHING ITS A GOOD MOVIE
Das Boot & Band of Brothers are both masterpieces
If you want to see the greatest ,watch the Cruel Sea.

The sailors had deep respect for the offiers..the oily towel to the face of Loutman taking pixs of der fishes being GREASED ist glauben nie.
Yep, besides this would warrant a court martial so I very much doubt anyone would do it for fun.

So much better without the English stupid dubs much better in German
Fick dich! Ich kannich sprechen der deusch ! Asch loch !
Although, the English dubs were performed by the original actors. They are all fluent English speakers. It was a better than average dub.
I like the English dubbed version it's kind of well and spoken by real Germans who speak English, and therefore sounds authentic
