Soloed the Snowy Trail loop in Los Padres National Forest after 7 years since last riding this area. Had no idea what shape these trails were in but I had an itch to find out. There are some sketchy sections where the price of a mistake is a several mile hike out because your motorcycle is in a pile at the bottom of a steep canyon, but I'll be back again! Piloting my Beta 500 RR-S.

    Nicely done! that's a gnarly loop! that's what i wanted to do last week. got into the gnarly rocks after the creek crossing and my riding buddy smashed his foot between a rock and his bike. Badly broken. i had to ride both bikes over the rest of the rocky stuff hiking back and helping him out too. took us 6 hours to get to the end of snowy. i really want to do the full loop next time.

    Which Beta RR-S are you riding? Im about to make a purchase and keep going between the 430rr-s and 500rr-s. The riding you are doing is my favorite kind of riding, fast singletrack with some challenging bits. I want the bike to be a weekend dirt bike and occasional adventure tour so I was considering the 500 but everyone says the 430 revvs quicker and feels more nimble. Curious what you've got or learned through owning and riding your own

    • @grahammer
      @grahammer 5 лет назад

      Not gonna lie...I wish I got the 430 instead! However, I do love this 500. The motor is super smooth and linear which is great, even if it sometimes lacks some excitement compared to the faster-rev'ing 430 or even 350. It can be a little bit of a pig when the trails get super rocky and technical but for its size, it actually handles it pretty well. I rode it through 5 Miles of Hell in Utah so that should tell you something ruclips.net/video/77OXv3kTz-A/видео.html Great bike all around and it has been very reliable.

      Cool. I think that seals it for me. Im gonna pull the trigger on the 430 this weekend. I dig your videos too. You ride the kind of stuff I like to ride. Very cool video from Tecate to Mike's. That ride looked friggin epic! Any chance you got a gpx track of that you can share?

    • @artfulalias3984

      I've got 90 hrs on a 2018 500rrs. Great initial quality. A skid plate screw vibrated out after the second oil change. My fault. Nothing but oil changes and air filter cleaning. Valve check at ~40 hours w/ all valves in spec. Its time to check valves again. New tires. Clutch check due ~100 hrs. There are some inexpensive oil pump drive gears that are supposed to get changed out during the clutch inspection. Or you can replace them with some expensive metal gears and forget about it. All in all, not bad for a light weight high performance single. The rear dual sport sub-sub-fender is vulnerable off road and benefits from being removed.

    What's he top speed for highways you've hit so far? I'm considering buying a beta for traveling and stuff to replace my current dual sport and was wondering how well it handles highway speeds 80mph(ish)

    • @kmanikin
      @kmanikin 7 лет назад

      I have a 2018 model and it will handle 80 mph easily. I haven't had it over that but it will easily do triple digits. However, you will need to get the wheels balanced as they don't come balanced from the factory.

    Nice! What is the range on a tank of gas? Where is this riding spot?

    • @grahammer
      @grahammer 7 лет назад

      Hard to say what the range is as it depends so heavily on the terrain and speed. I figure with the 3.1gal tank I might be able to squeeze 90-100mi if I'm not riding goat trails.

    • @grahammer
      @grahammer 7 лет назад

    Cool video!Spot looks so fun. I been thinking about getting a 09 crf450x.I have a 08 crf450r and everyone I talk to says the X feels heavy in the front end compared to the R and doesn't handle as good. You seem to go just fine on it though! I've never road a X yet?

    • @grahammer
      @grahammer 11 лет назад

      Compared to a motocrosser or a 2-stroke, yes it feels heavy in the front at low speeds. It just takes some getting used to and depends on what type of terrain you ride. Good for Enduro-X? No. Good for desert and off-road? Absolutely!

  • @grahammer
    @grahammer 11 лет назад

    I don't recall the price of this trip. I can tell you it's absolutely worth it though. Visit the Baja Bound Moto website and click on the Calendar link for upcoming trips.

    Ah, well, after watching a few times, I can see that it looks harder and steeper probably in person. Looks like you had just enough momentum to make it happen. I'd probably be up for coming down them lol.....

  • @grahammer
    @grahammer 12 лет назад

    Everybody typically does the loop in the other direction so they come down the Stair Steps. Most struggle just coming down let alone going back up!

  • @SixSpeedSS
    @SixSpeedSS 12 лет назад

    Now that looks like some tire eating stuff there. A little hard on the bike to. I'd probably not have much interest in taking a bike over that, unless the pay off on the other side was really somethin.

    @dirtbikeryder16 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I use a GoPro and have it mounted to the front of my helmet on an aluminum bracket I made and riveted right onto the front. If you look at 4:47 you can sort of see how it was done, I'm on the right side.
