    Is there anything we can do for stink bugs that won't kill all the other pollinators? I don't want to use a systemic because of the bees and butterflies in my garden.

      You can’t really butterfly houses are to preserve butterflies from different countries, these butterflies are tropical or they are not native in the country, therefore if they were released they would end up being invasive or not find there way in the wild

    • @mklange92490
      @mklange92490 4 месяца назад

      Doubt there invasive species. Even if they are why did he buy them and house them in that region and riks harming the entire eco system around him? Either way, they shouldn't be there. They should be free. Free to be the butterflies they are and fly and soar anywhere they wish to go. That's is there life why take it from them? So you can feel something they'll never understand. Just messed up and sdlich to be

    I might purchase worm castings for my Back to the Roots potting soil. Caveat is to use 10% of the worm castings. Too much will burn the soil or herbs.

    @SaveButterfliesUK i have gulf fritillarys and varigated, and i get them in my backyard and bring them inside to keep until they turn into butterflys, then i let them go. This morning i woke up with one dead, because it got stuck in the corner and suffocated.😥. I then preserved it and im taking it to school so i can show it off as its in the picture frame. Rest in peace my beautiful butterfly 🦋⚰️🥀. Also, they live in the oassionvine

      Well done buddy! Here it is too cold in the North of the Scottish Highlands so I had to build a place with heaters. I buy the chrysalis and glue them using gentle wood glue to sticks and then hatch them out In a incubator. Good for you anyway, that's a healthy hobby to have!

    thanks!. Answered alot of my questions that I couldnt find easily elsewhere. I had difficulty estimating water needs last year ( zone 5) . I always thought I was overwatering as i would check with a thin bamboo stick and it always came out wet and I did have some leaf yellowing . This year I purchased a better moisture meter and that has shown me that the soil in my EB is wet in the top 1/4 of soil , at the root level it can often be close to dry . Not sure if this is due to wicking action but I feel I have better info about how often to watering. I might have underwatered all year last year based on those bamboo stick tests. Does this sound reasonable ?

    During the Summer how often to water plants?

    • @kerbysnursery1346
      @kerbysnursery1346 Год назад

      It really depends on how hot it's getting and where they're located. If they're established in-ground plants in full-sun, check a couple of times a week, established shade-loving plants usually take less water. Check container gardens and hanging baskets daily. And for all new plants, whether it's spring, summer or fall, we recommend following the watering schedule we outlined. If plants are wilting even after a deep soak/watering, increase the water levels. If it's a super hot day, you might need to water twice daily depending on your location, the location of the plant in your garden and the type of plant. We hope this helps!

    That fancy pipevine plant you showed is toxic to the pipevine caterpillars, they need our native pipevine which isn’t nearly as showy. Otherwise, your video is very informative.

    • @katiecannon8186
      @katiecannon8186 Год назад

      Exactly. Folks really need to go to native plant nurseries. Also, since I guess this guy owns a nursery, he needs to stop recommending invasives - especially poisonous ones.

  • @kinglyzard
    @kinglyzard 2 года назад

    3:35 Cover plants are necessary for the caterpillars too. I plant host plants among neutral plants so the caterpillars can get away from wasps during molts and resting periods. 4:27 Rue is actually in the Citrus Family (Rutaceae) and will support Giant Swallowtails awa Black Swallowtails.

  • @kinglyzard

    The perfect time to photograph them is to find them basking on cool, sunny days when they're at their most presented and when their reflexes aren't quite like they are on warmer days. Butterflies are notoriously camera shy.
