Road 96: Stan and Mitch's Audio Files
One barely being able to scratch over 100 mil but Age of Extinction getting over a billion is an actual warcrime
GOOD NEWS SEQUEL HAS BEEN CONFIRMED LET'S FRAGING GOOOOO!!!!
Oh where did they say that! If that's true then I am the happiest man alive
Transformers One was only in the main cinemas in my city for about a week after releasing in my country; I later found out that a more out-of-the-way cinema in the area had it for a couple of weeks longer, but it's not playing now from what I can tell. Not only did we not get it until a *month* after it came out in the USA, but there was barely any time to see it once we *did*, especially for people who work or study full-time.
Absolutely find it weird that they waited a whole month to release the movie fully overseas. The timings themselves over here too weren't that good, I think the latest one had was like 6 P.M., easily that movie could've had an 8 or 10pm showtime as well! It's really, reallly weird and I hate it lol.
if you want an easy way to learn the lore of the transformers franchise, i cannot recommend "transformers the basics" here on yt enough, assuming you haven't checked it out already
I keep saying this before, but i actually think the marketing wasn’t what caused Transformers One underperform at the box office. A lot of the marketing were geared towards the fact the movie was an origin story. The trailers aren’t really made to market the movie, as they’re more so trying to “sell” the movie. What’s the difference. Well, trailers tends to frame movies in order to gain families, teens, and adults, to go see those particular movies. The fact the first trailer made a majority of people to not see the movie, despite the fact it was a Transformers movie, just means that the first trailer caused the movie to underperform. However, the 2nd trailer did at least frame the movie as what the movie’s supposed to be, but it was already too late. Most people were probably more interested in watching Deadpool & Wolverine or a generic movie that will win an academy award. Another reason why I think the movie failed at the box office, is because of the timing of release. The movie came out a week before DreamWorks’ the Wild Robot, so more families were going to see that then a Transformers. Plus there’s also the fact that some people don’t really want to go to the movies and just want to watch films on TV. So they waited until the movie came out on home media, and on demand.
I do feel like, there could've been more advertisement placement as a whole for this movie. I do agree that it really was the first trailer that caused the movie to not gain an audience. The second trailer does a way better job at showcasing the tone of this movie. Originally The Wild Robot was going to release on the same day as Transformers, but Dreamworks moved it to a week later so that there wouldn't be any competition (at least, I think it was Dreamworks that pushed it back). But if a parent is going to choose a movie for their kids, I feel like they're likely going to go for Dreamworks who have a more consistent rep in animation. Transformers hadn't released a fully animated product in theaters since the 86 movie, average movie goers have only the live action movies as a general reference. Streaming movies and checking it out on physical is a major factor too. Streaming is something that studios are going to push for in the end, it's convenient and quicker. Though as I talked about in the "A Possibility As To Why This Movie Could've Failed" chapter, I feel like the big execs have ulterior greedy motives to push for streaming releases. Lmao thinking about how this movie was handled makes me ill/hj.
Orion and Dee for the love of God kiss
Call me crazy, but I kinda wish ONE can go to history like X-Men First Class serving as the origin story to look for whenever fans-in-making asked where to start.
I never got into the X-Men films lmao but speaking as this movie was like, my real first introduction, I feel like it seems like a good place to start. I'm very glad that this movie can at least be that to newcomers like myself.
I believe it *is* supposed to be that sort of film. I don't remember exactly who said it but before TFO was released it was stated that the film's origin story could be served as a general origin for those continuites that never explored an origin story. So its basically a sort of stand-in origin story.
The fact that bay kept producing these movies, even after obviously being done with the franchise after the third installment, fandom hate and possible studio meddling, speaks volumes!
I know I was baffled seeing him as a producer in the credits the first time I saw the movie, so I will give props for him sticking with the franchise fr
@SamPostStuff . Can you imagine any other director doing something like this? Then again, bay always had neck for doing his own thing, and well!
Highly recommend checkking out filmento, the guy covered several"BayFormers"movies, from worst til best. And does highlight stuff die hard transformers fans would never even consider!
Thanks for the rec! I will give the channel a watch, though I think I will check out the movies for myself first and do my best to go in without any biases or preconceptions. It'll be good nonetheless to gain additional insight from others fr
@SamPostStuff . Thanks for listening anyway. This single act have become extremely hard for modern audiences, even though humanity are closer than ever before!
Hey hey ! Editor here Really cool video! I would actually love to give you a piece of advice! It is good to cut out the part of the audio where you breathe very loudly! It can be distracting so I recommend getting rid of that during editing! Other than that amazing video mate! Keep up the great work
@@uhhhhhhhhhhh.1 Hello! Thank you for the feedback and for enjoying it overall! Yeah it's very noticeable lmao, I did cut out a couple of awkward pauses and moments where I take a deep breaths initially but on rewatch, I see where it's still noticeable. That's on me for real. I recorded another video like a month or so before this one, so I'll make sure to go through it thoroughly to cut out the loud breathing parts. Aiming to do better in each video in some way, I genuinely appreciate the critique! (And apologies if it bothered anyone else, I 100% understand fr)
Why do they bank on streaming services they make very little money and as a monthly expense are harder to justify than a one-off ticket, economically in the longer term the market at present will switch towards piracy which is death for these companies, they should want ways to get more money that people willing want to do.
Exactly! Like idk maybe I can't comprehend all of the issues cable presented back then, besides having to pay extra for some stations, but legitimately that's all streaming services are right now. It also sucks when some of them make them have ads inbetween shows. Like I know commercials have always existed but it's just gross that for some services you'd have to pay extra to get rid of them. And some media are lost media now too since they couldn't care less about some IPs, even if it comes from them (I'm thinking of Netflix's Voltron, I never watched that show for myself but come on?? Be so for real Netflix). It's no wonder we're all going for piracy, not just for movies or tv shows. Dunno why I haven't checked it out before but Tubi actually seems like a good streaming service so far, that's actually where I'm gonna watch some of the Transformers products anyway. I know they have ads because, how else are they gonna make money, but their library seems like it at least justifies it, especially since it's free. I would love it if Disney, Hulu or Netflix followed this format, I can take the ads if I don't have to pay like 20 dollars a month for a subscription. Easily I can justify going out to the movies too, which can be the highlight of some peoples day. Something's gotta change that's all I'm saying lmaoooo
@SamPostStuff I doubt they think far ahead these days just gluttonous hunger for money, I fear they will destroy the whole damn thing in an attempt to satisfy it.
@@burningbronze7555 You know what that's a good point too. Can also see that there would probably be some unforeseen catch as well. I mean, that peanut disney lawsuit is rather telling. The other solution would be focusing on physical media again, but the emphasis on streaming services since that's the new standard is making DVDs feel like something that's just there and only the third accessible option, after streaming and piracy.
Call old school, but would rather buy movies for dvd then watch them for stream, heck even watch cable over too. Not?
Hey i like video so far 6:35 Soundwave, shockwawe and starscream are my favs , i rly recomend transformers prime since you said u didnt watch anything else It has starscream and he is very intresting there
Thank you for liking it! Those three seem so goofy here lol, I have heard how they are generally in various iterations, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they act. I am getting TF Prime recommended to me more so maybe out of the three I've been told about so far, I'll start with Prime first. Looking forward to seeing how he's portrayed lol
you should try TF prime
That was recommended to me when the initial upload was made fr! Was also recommended Earthspark and Beast Wars by the friend that was sending us his live reactions. Gonna try to get all three of them started before the end of this year.
@SamPostStuff Beast WAR - if only you are a fan. Earth spark - if you read IDW COMIC
@@joshuax1987 Good to know! Prime seems like the way to go first then for real
I generally liked the movie but i could of done without all the unfunny marvel humour. It grates on me for several reasons. Its like they think a younger audience cant handle sitting still for 5 mins and just absorb a story. Also. The jokes were baaaddd. That badass-a-tron bit with Alita-1 made me groan. Overall, it didnt deserve to fail. Which is s shame. No sequel.
Which I really hate, treating the kid audiences like they're dumb essentially. Even if they can't sit through it on first go (which I do doubt, I mean, how do you not focus once you hear D-16 yell "No I want to kill him"), they can always rewatch it. Which having humor that falls flat can be hard to sit through on rewatch. I think as a whole I did laugh like, a few times but this movie doesn't need to rely on humor anyway. I'm gonna keep coping for a sequel lol but it absolutely did not deserve to fail. I'm glad it was able to gain some traction. At least they are in talks of having Josh Cooley doing something for Transformers in the future.
This is indeed a big problem in modern entertainment. An egregious example is the Wil e Coyote Movie. This is way indie stuff is what gets me going these days.
I'm really looking forward to The Day The Earth Blew Up and being able to see that in theaters, big executives really think they know what we want lmaooooo. I should really check out more indie movies/tv shows, been mainly doing that with games which is keeping me afloat, I really hope the mainstream movies catch on one day, but if that happens it likely won't be for a while. At the very least, listen to the complaints (I have no idea why studios are really going for A.I., besides the obvious cutting costs reasons).
They have been doing this since the 1940's. Hollywood is evil and will never make sense id you try to be logical. You have to go satanic conspiracy theory logic to understand what Hollywood is up to.
I watch this movie four times in theaters no joke
That's my plan. We need to save this movie.
Oof wish that were me fr. When we watched it the first time in theaters the guy running the counter said that there weren't a lot of people watching this movie, let alone buying the special B-127 popcorn bucket (which my sister did buy lmao). I just wished it stayed consistently in theaters for the 3 months and not withdrawal so early, especially before it was available on streaming.
@ in the cinema when i watching TF ONE they don’t have TF ONE bucket
@@mathiaslienafa789 I'm hoping that means they sold out. I guess there was also an Optimus Prime popcorn bucket, and our theater didn't have that, which is a bummer.
The VA that plays Sir Pentious on Hazbin Hotel is almost a pitch-perfact match for G1 Starscream (played by the late Chris Latta).
Just gave his voice a listen since I personally don't watch Hazbin Hotel but I agree with you for real, it sounds really close
You mean Alex Brightman?
Watched it 3 times in theaters. One with friends, one with family, one alone. Fully alone, as I was in an empty room. But, it was a Spain cinema and I was watching the english original. I am not watching it on Digital. However. I already ordered the DvD, and I am collecting the figures. I want even the damn robot-deers. Do them, Hasbro!
Lol sometimes I like when it's just me and my siblings in the theaters alone so we can talk a little bit, but sincerely this is a movie I wanted to have more showings be packed. The DVD sales add up nonetheless! (And quite frankly I'm tempted to buy it on DVD so that way I can just have it at anytime physically). I personally don't think I'm at the point of collecting figures but this movie is tempting me for real! The deers look so cool in the movie I think they should have their own figurines too
@@SamPostStuff Hasbro always repaints Starscream figures into a bunch of color variants for obvious reasons, with minimal changes between them. I always have waited for the character re-color I wanted. This movie has made me want to get the full set. They all have different chests, cockpits, air vents, wings, faces, and weapons, but feel like variants of the same design. If the toys do that too, I am collecting them all.
It really sucks how the best Transformers movies seem to have mediocre box office reception while the crappy Bayformers kept blowing it up. Bumblebee was so good, a breathe of fresh air for fans and they they drop the ball with Rise of the Beasts when hype was up. I don't get what the mentality behind these execs. When you got a quality movie just do the exact same thing! Instead they have to change it for the worse.
Yeah!! Again I've only seen the first two bayfilms a while back but from what I've heard, Bumblebee is the breath of fresh air. I should've mentioned it in the video, since I think it's a major factor too, but movie execs don't respect the animation medium as a whole. This is a tangent on it's own lmao but with the exception of a good amount of movies from Disney, Dreamworks, and most if not all of Studio Ghibli, execs I think immediately see it as an easy way to make money off parents and children. (I know Studio Ghibli isn't US centered but that's one of the major studios overseas that gets recognized a lot among audiences.) Meanwhile parents, older siblings or babysitters have seen it or currently see it as an easy way to make kids silent for over an hour and a half. I think studios like Illumination and Paramount do have more IPs that are catered to children, at least that's how they come across. Transformers with the live action movies have taken a more gritter look, at least for a while. It makes it feel like you're not watching a product that was originally designed for kids to begin with. I'm glad that most animated movies and some tv shows now are being treated with the same care and intelligence as any other work, I think Transformers One is a good example of that. Yet it gets marketed as solely a movie for kids and something for parents to just take their kids to and *maybe* enjoy it if they were fans of the series or were familiar with the cast and characters. We just need to recognize animation as a medium and not a genre, and that's a problem within the industry and with how executives think.
Ttg and helluva boss, those are"crappy". "BayFormers";turned those once nieche toys into global profit juggernauts, got many people like myself hungry for more, pushed special effects forward, and entertaining! Guess the only people who can stomach bay's comedy are hungarians(like myself). Who are unapologetically abrasive, direct, foul mouthed, beer guzzling jackasses who doesn't care what the think skinned/yellow bellied/Lily livered snowflakes worry about!
"crappy"? You guys only saying this because you hawen't seen"transmorphers"! Those movies might not been fine art, but not everything must. Besides they did some things right, like;"push special effects technology further, turn this once nieche toy based franchise into global phenomenon, raking ¢4$#,and even getting some characters recognition who previously become nothing but placeholder names!
@@erikbihari3625 Having good visuals is neat and all, but if the story isn't memorable (at least in a good way), then it doesn't matter how flashy it is. You just get cases like Borderlands 3 where its more style than substance. And while you're right that not everything needs to be a masterpiece, it does need to be competant and interesting beyond the asthetics.
@@erikbihari3625I plan on doing a watch party in my own time of the Bayfilms, I'm sure there are things I will like about the movies. Even though I wasn't into Transformers when they started releasing them, I feel like the ones that really stuck out in my head in terms of marketing was Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts, mainly design wise for the characters. I think two things that kept me from watching them was that the films were giving off the vibe of "Since it's live action, it has to be grim/dark/edgy", which I think a lot of live action movies were following at a certain point, besides Marvel who took a more lighter tone. It just wasn't my thing. Then there was the issue of the movies releasing every few years, I feel like I rolled my eyes when they announced a fourth movie. But to be fair that's something that's happening constantly now with any studio. Now it does seem like, it's way wayyyy worse now, I feel like the only other film series to do hop on the trend of getting out sequels at the same time as Transformers is the Fast and Furious series, which has way more products than Transformers live action movies. (I only watched like two Fast and Furious films lol, I don't think I will be getting into that series). At the end of the day, I'm willing to give them a shot and go in the series and putting aside these biases and preferences. I am looking forward to seeing how I'll like them. I just wish that animated movies, especially this movie in particular, took off at the box office.
Hi
Hello there! I hope you enjoyed the video, I welcome constructive criticisms/feedback!
I liked that B jokes just didnt land with us, they didn't land with the characters in the movie either, he was more annoying for them than the viewer
I do generally agree, more so with Elita or different side characters finding him annoying but I argue at least with Orion and D-16 it's more like, awkward for them. B's been separated from people for a long time and is lacking social cues, so he's trying to talk and joke constantly so people like him. And I like that either way, whether he comes across as annoying or alone, the movie makes it feel awkward which is what i think they were going for, for the most part His funniest line imo is when he says "I'm gonna cut these guys watch!" Even if he wasn't being intentionally funny
@@SamPostStuff same, totally... with Orion and D16 they knew something was off about him but they would just not tell him to shut up, they were trying so hard not to be assholes it cracked me because I have been in their position before specially dealing with odd clients or friends kids and I reacted the same way. I believe what I find fun of B screen time is not B itself but how others reacting to him.
@@AzureWiler I'm gonna be real I feel like I've acted like B before, mainly during my teen years lmaoooo. Not to his extent but it just feels familiar with trying to get people to like you coming across as trying too hard at times and when you're lacking social cues. Seeing it play out within B was endearing as it was basically cringy. The different ways they all react to him as well is really funny and realistic, it makes sense why Orion and D-16 are trying to be nice to him since they know more about his situation than the other cast. On a related note, I also think it would've been easy to make D-16 be mean to him too and I'm glad they didn't, I think I'm just used to preparing for mean spirited movies or responses within characters. I do love that B still tries to help out anyway, despite how awkward he comes across, and for the most part he is. Get him around people more and I believe he'll be fine lol (I genuinely hope that if they do a sequel that we see an obvious progression and sincerely funny quips, I'd hate to see him stuck in the same awkward mindset, depending on how long it's after the first movie).
I would also say that, in comparison to other awkward characters I've seen, he's actually has a reason being awkward and making quips. Like you guys said before, he's been isolated for so long and is just trying to fit in. But also the moment where he's complaining about going into the cave while everyone else goes in, it actually makes sense because he's not a miner, and probably has never mined before. The other 3 have and have been in worse scenarios, so of course they aren't going to be scared of a cave, yet he would be. He's not the awkward quip guy for no reason, they give it some thought as to why he acts like that. Not only that, but they make sure he doesn't take away from too many serious moments. When Alpha Trion is done explaining the whole story and they see the proof, he doesn't like try to be funny or anything, he takes it seriously. Same when him and D-16 were captured by Sentinel, and he told D to stay down because he didnt want him to get hurt or die. They know when to keep that awkwardness in check. I do hope they make him grow from this awkwardness now that he's surrounded by others in any future movies they hopefully do

I fr remember seeing the ad's for this and the posters and everything, I am a TF fan but I rolled my eyes because the movie seemed like a pander to kids and bring in a new audience while just dragging on the series - a cash grab. This is NOT at all what the movie was!!!! Word of mouth was insane for this movie, and I think this might be leading up to a mix of movie culture being questionable for cartoons not fully adapted for children, but adults to, and the dying culture of theaters, since less people go because the prices and timing isnt as easy as streaming is
Popping off this, currently the box is considered 128.7 mil worldwide for grosses! Which is good number for the trilogy idea

Not for fame reasons or whatever but because more people should see your work because of the care you put into it
They can't keep getting away with this lmaoooooo Thanks though buddy I appreciate it. If it picks up again then it picks up again lol. The marketing of this video will continue to baffle me.
Welp, they did claim the first video. So this time, I placed some overlaying footage of Iacon in some bits where there were marked claims, and cut down some of the footage. I honestly don't expect it to fully account for potential new claims in the future. So, that leaves me with either doing one of two things if it does get claimed: 1. Trim down the video 2. Dispute the claim I could in theory re-upload it again, and the description will have another update with the current date I'm re-uploading it. Option one or this potential option is more plausible considering that, I have some free time on my hands and with how my current channel stands, I'm not making money off uploading. So I guess in my mind I feel like disputing the claim isn't warranted, though I know the video falls under fair use. It's something that right now I do for fun (if I could monetize my videos in the future that would be cool, but that's in the far future and one thing that I'll have to consider all the points and whatnot). But on that note I want to able to have the video for people to enjoy and talk about a problem that I believe is prevalent in the movie industry. It may not be a new opinion but I think it should be talked about more anyway, so if it gets blocked, rest assured I will do any of these options to get it back up
Well good luck, even staying here hard when you're brutally honest!
I recommend you Transformers prime, it’s really good and has really good designs and voice acting
Thanks for the recommendation! Been recommended by my friend that Earthspark and Beast Wars are also good starting points (the goofy side of me almost wants to go in chronological order of when they all came out lmao). Realistically those are the three I'll be starting off with fr.
This movie has the same high quality as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (in fact, I could say that both of them have the same plot with a little variation). D-16 is like an improved version of Killmonger as well. It’s shameful that the studio just doesn’t take it as seriously as the audience.
im pretty much glued to youtube and not ONCE did i see a trailer for this movie here. I only heard about it like a couple times through word of mouth and literally thought is was show and not a movie until i saw videos talking about it
I'm someone who plays RUclips in the background on my TV and yeah, literally did not get an ad for it otherwise. They just really fumbled the marketing badly it hurts to look at.
Yeah, the marketing really don't do this movie justice. I'm not the biggest Transformers fan, only knowing them from Bayverse movies, and at first i'm not really interested with this movie, seeing from the trailer where it feel like a children movie, the only thing i can remember from the movie is the lighthearted tone and the quippy banter. But after the movie is released, i read from my facebook friend who love transformers that this movie is so good and intrigued, i try to watch it too and yeah, it's a good movie, it has a good balance of drama, action and funny moment, it's deep but also lighthearted. I even plan to watch it one more time but alas the movie already gone from theater. The marketing is so bad, that the movie not even shown on the premier spot on my city theater, maybe only on some big city theater in my country, Indonesia. I hope they can make a sequel for this movie
Man that's a shame it's not in your theaters anymore! It's just such a good movie, it deserves a whole lot more than what the marketing has done for it. In general I'm not someone who begs for sequels but this is the one case where I feel like a sequel really is deserved, not just for audience.
The marketing/trailers for Transformers One made it seem like a movie made for toddlers.
Which (and this is just me) I don't think would've been too bad, the trailers at the very least made it feel like it would've been a safe movie to have your toddlers watch for an hour and 44 minutes and maybe something some adult audiences could enjoy too, or at least handle if they didn't like it. But this movie is just soooo much more, and I wish the trailers just reflected that. Online for a while I heard how movie goers would see kids watching this movie, chit chat for a little bit, but then focus on it completely when D-16 says "No I want to kill him!" And the marketing wants to make it look like it's only for toddlers or is gripping at surface level humor?? I rarely see an animated movie say "kill" and then have that character follow through with it!! It's a movie for everybody.
Meanwhile, in the movie - One of the two main characters shot his own best friend and dropped him to die then proceeded to publicly execute the president in front of thousands of people, like a French Revolution - That same character also gave a manifesto that you could see from leaders like Hitler, Che, Lenin and Mao - Plus before that, the president that he killed also branded a Megatronus sigil on his chest like an allegory of slave owner branding a slave as well An extremely political and matured movie that was ruined by the childish marketing
They did the exact same thing with Treasure Planet I swear to god! It's rage inducing. Disney ran an abysmal marketing campaign for it, and also released it at the same time as some of the biggest movies coming out at the time (Harry Potter and Star Wars iirc).
YEAH!! It's really a Treasure Planet situation!! Best way to put it for real I can't believe I forgot about that (The movie came out a little bit after I was born but like, I heard about that marketing too, it hurts since 2D animation was starting to dwindle down as well and 3D was overtaking the industry). I don't know what can be done in terms of the "competition" movies will inevitably face, but at the very least they can market their movies it isn't hard lmaoooo
Its a great film . Its very strange they would want it to fail.
It's what I firmly believe anyway, it's just like, so odd they wouldn't push for this movie more, given the familiar IP. I really think this movie could've made it's money back fully had they'd keep it in more theaters consistently and promote it more.
I already knew that you were going to cook with this video because you have such a good insight on things and can articulate your point so well, but I absolutely love this video. It's such a wonderful way to express your love this movie and your opinions on how the current movie/marketing industry is. I really hope that they can do a sequel because I know with how well this movie has done and it's internet fame it could incite more people to watch the next one and make sure that it does even better so that the full trilogy can be complete. But whatever happens, I'm so glad this movie exists because of how it's so rooted in bringing something new to an old IP, not in a way to capitalize and saturate the IP, but because the people that worked on this clearly love the IP, and want to do it justice since recently it has gotten a bad name, in terms of theatrical movie releases. Once again, great video buddy!
Thanks buddy!! I hope so too, and like, it's just hard not to notice how certain films are being treated currently. Transformers One is a (n Optimus) prime example. I'm glad this movie exists too, I sincerely hope it gets that sequel man you have no idea, the people working on the film that put so much care into this movie should be able to do the full trilogy.
Let's see how long it it stays up.
Watching with bated breath you have no idea lmaoooo
They wanna keep it down cause they know she's right
@@MixContentsChannelThey most certainly do lmaoooo(/hj). Guess I'll have to see in the future how much I'll need to trim down or potentially mute. It is what it is but it really shouldn't be
Make your own choices my ass lmfao Still a good game ngl
great analysis!!
👍
My unpopular opinion is that the M. Night Shyamalan movie is better than the Netflix series.
I watched the Netflix show, it wasn't very good. Or just has hi hopes that didn't get met
Sokka is my favorite character. Great analysis!
yep.
1:55 "Avatar became relevant after Hollywood made a film bastardizing just as bad as Rocky Morton's take on Mario Brothers"
The thing with Jet and the fire nation, I learned in school that every nazi was German, but not every German was nazi
That's another aspect I really appreciate about A:TLA. The show presents us with a degree of background and side characters that have naunced personality, traits and ideologies. Like there was the old man that snitched on Haru for earthbending, and of course this old man in the episode would vouches for Sokka. Jet and Hama are characters who take their ideologies to an extreme degree. The Mechanist even was exploited by the Fire Nation but you see within his episode that it was for the sake of protecting him. The White Lotus is also a prime example of people from other parts of the nation coming together to help a greater cause. The show and it's characters aren't just black and white, and it's great that in a way it'll challenge the viewers worldview and their preconceptions.
Ok but HOW THE F-- DID THEY GET TAN AT THE SOUTHPOLE (sorry, nothing to do with the video, just wanted to point that out)
No worries! Putting a TL;DR: Snow reflects sun a lot more easily which can lead to tanning/sunburns, darker skin tone tans a lot more easily and despite how the weather climate should be in the fall and winter in that particular region, the Inuit do have darker skin tones, likely due to evolution within their environment. This did actually encourage me to do more research considering the North and South pole should have months where it’s darker and thus the people should have lighter skin (based on its timeline anyway, since I think Book One is supposed to take place in the fall, near winter. I’m unsure if TLoK showcased the North or South pole being more dark but I’m chalking it up to wanting to see the characters clearly in the show, and it’s possible that in real life, it’s not as dark as often as I think it is and it varies on location. The NASA website states that Antarctica has six months of daylight and 6 months of darkness. Meanwhile Alaska can have roughly 60 days of mostly darkness.) The Inuit, which is what The Northern and Southern Water Tribes are based off of, typically have darker skin, though their skin tone can vary and can be lighter. An in show example of this would be Hama’s skin tone. One article I looked at attributes to the Inuit to having darker skin due to evolution/adaptation (some online answers also attribute their dietary intake of fish to lead to darker skin tones, as it is a source of Vitamin D, but taking Vitamin D doesn’t make your skin darker, it just makes up for not getting enough vitamin D in the sun, and darker people may have lower levels of Vitamin D than those with lighter skin. With that said your skin can become more pale if you have low iron, and fish are one of the primary foods that are enriched with iron. Part of this is me recalling my low iron as well.) But a more obvious factor is the fact sun rays reflect easily off snow, which can lead to tanning and sunburns. I don’t live in a snowy area but the one time I went out to somewhere that had snow during the winter, and I did get sunburned (I tan very easily due to my dark skin but it can take a bit longer for me to fully get sunburnt unless I stand out in the sun directly for like, several hours, which was the case here lol). Here are the names of the main articles where I got some of the information from (all online) "Inuits live in very cold climates, why do they have dark skin?" from scienceline scienceline.org/2007/06/ask-dricoll-inuiteskimos/ "Sun protection at the snow" from betterhealth.vic www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/sun-protection-at-the-snow "Vitamin D Deficiency & Skin Type: What You Need to Know" from cuehealth cuehealth.com/blog/wellness/2023/07/06/vitamin-d-deficiency-skin-type-what-you-need-to-know "What is Antarctica? I made this with basic research so if anyone does further research into the subject matter and if I made any mistakes, please point them out!
