Owning a yacht and an older car means a lot of mechanical fixing things. But over all we will be Sailing, Camping, and going Thrilling Adventure as we live an alternative lifestyle. I am looking to set up my car to become a micro camper while saving for a larger van. Along with heading on adventures in both the boat and car / van
Join us as we blend outdoor escapades with the demands of everyday life, striving to strike a perfect work-life balance. #Sailing, #Camping, #mechanical and embracing the great outdoors. Currently, we're saving up for a camper van to explore Europe, bidding farewell to our trusty 15-year-old Insignia for a more eco-friendly, ULEZ-compliant option like the VW T6, Ford Custom, or perhaps even a Fiat Ducanto.

Congrats to the captain, excellent job and beautiful boat. That is something many 65 year olds dream of. You got it at 19, so that’s great, enjoy it.
He's a kid!
Jimmy, the kid :-) He sure is 19 and it's his second boat we did a little interview near the end of the video. His been around boats all his lota of sailing and experience. My 2500 miles of sailing is nowhere near what his done. If you do enjoy the boat tour videos ife done a bavaria 36, A sun odyssey 45.2 and my So 40. I'm planning on doing some more soon.
Shame about the teak deck on them as always a problem and expensive to have stripped and new one relaid
Yeah, they look nice. Newer boats have the flexiteak stuff, which looks almost as good but doesn't get as hot as wood to walk on and, other than a wipe down, doesn't require any maintenance. I've got a friend who replaced his. He did all the removal of his teak on his SO 36 he removed it all with the 1000's of screws and cleaned it all up. Then a company came to install the flexitech stuff. They did the rest of the templates fitting, and I think he paid around £7k for it.
Rare to find a boat under 45' with a nice aft cabin double bed.
I've got another boat tour of a 45.2 Sun Odyssey their back cabins are decent like the Baveria 36 I've just done. The back cabins in my Sun Odyssey 40 there's no real head room. Although I've had people stay in there which said they were perfectly fine. Doubt I'd like to stay longer than a couple of nights in there......and I go car and tent camping a lot. I've got tours on the boats I mentioned. Will be doing a few more soon. Thanks for leaving a comment, liking the video if you did and welcome if you subscribed.
Hi will your OBD reader do a forced DPF regen, very very good video 👌
Yes, it will. It's been decent, and I keep it in my car. They say after a force regen it's recommended to change the oil. Especially if your using a cleaner via the temperature sensor. I also use the Liqui Moly cleaner from time to time. Reader amzn.to/4jU1SHV Cleaner amzn.to/4aTEbLq Hope this helps
just for future reference you could have saved some cash and got yourself opcom, it's around £45 and is a very powerfull tool for any Vauxhall/Opel
Great Video, Love Cardiff Bay 🙂
Thanks! You never know how a video is going to perform, This one hasnt been that popular so far, but I enjoy making the videos and hoping to get better. So I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment and liking the video. It helps keep the motivation to keep going.
Overall they buit about 1300 Nauticat 33's over the decades it was in production.
His really happy with his choice. I might see if he wants to go sailing a little later in the year.
Great video 👌 I love pilot house motor sailors, there is a nauticat 44 in the marina I’m in which is stunning great boats. I have a coaster 33 pilot house motor sailor, full keel, ketch rigged, canoe backed, I love her she’s solid and has kept me safe in rough seas I have no business being in. Old boats that are still in good condition these days will out live us 😅
Thanks! Im trying to do some more boat tour videos when I get the chance. So far, they have been a SO 40, SO 45.2, Bavaria 36. His dad's boat is an interesting one, so I can't wait to arrange something with him. The coaster 33 looks a great choice. Does it sail well
@ I took her from South wales to north wales but had to motor all the way due to rigging breaking on route but but she was solid in the bad weather, I have had her rerigged since and had a new furler also, the few times I’ve been out since the rerig I think she sails great, I tend to only use the jib and mizzen and have had up to 6 knots which was ideal, I’ve just finished a lithium install and bridged it to my lead acid setup via a dc to dc and added an inverter so she has lots of off grid power ready for this year, all I have left to do is install a new diesel heater then just redo my wood work and she’s ready for the season, I can’t wait 😁⛵️
beautiful shape3d things , I love that shape and usefulness particularly in cold weather, don't know if id like to live in Australia in that cabin, but in cool weather that's a nice thing
I guess with lithium and walk on solar panels, I'm sure AC would be viable. But the doors do open, and the sky light is pretty big, So I'm sure it would have decent airflow. I've got a boat tour playlist with my friends, Sun Odyssey 45.2, My SO 40, Bavaria 36 and I'm trying to arrange a few more tours. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, liking the video and welcome if you subscribed.
If I had heard " that's quite nice to have " once more I'd have lost it.
His 100% full of positivity. I've known him for around 3 years and can't recall him ever complaining about anything. His such a great friendly, hard-working guy
If this was my boat I would also have regarded all of it's amenities as "quite nice"❤
Great video. I love the skylight and the galley setup.
Absolutely, I'm looking to add a cockpit enclosure on mine eventually and maybe build a hard spreyhood with probably a "sun roof" for the light and to see the sails. I've got inmast furling, and you have to put it away correctly, and at the moment I can't really see it as I'm putting it away due to the sprey hood being in the way. Sailing for me is a med to long term plan. in the mean time I need to sort out my living arrangements
Yes, the 1970 ‘s had some well designed and well built ships. Still in 2025 , with good maintenance, sailing. Some times wondering how newly built ships would look after 50 years.
My guess the newer ones would hold up better due to the materials they use. Lots of newer production boats the interiors instead of veneer wood they use compact laminated plastic. Technically, it's far better, doesn't rot, lighter, and stronger won't discolour as much as varnish on wood. Same with exterior with the flexi teak stuff. If you like modern looking hotel rooms, then you will probably like them, especially the large hull windows giving great views. But because they're made with the compact laminate, which is better than wood, they feel cheap when you're touching the pannels. It's why older boaters aren't keen on them. I really like the oceanis 40.1 I've been on one at the boat show maybe one day I'll go for one. I have a tour of my 2002 sun odyssey 40 which I love. It's made of the kevlar energized hull and those who have sailed with me say it's surprisingly good. Production boats get a bad rap but most owners I've met and myself very happy with them. Welcome if you subscribed and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
Yes, your absolutely right about the old fineer wood. But as always a boat needs maintenance and that means also replacing and repair things as it should be. There are no maintenance free boats. But this all costs money. One of the reassons that the used boat market in the netherlands fell down. High prices for materials, mooring fees , taxes and insurances and a falling demand for boats by the younger generation did the rest.
Love it! I’m in the market for a live-aboard.
I've got a video called real world things to consider before buying a boat. Here in the UK, there are more marinas thar don't allow people to live on their boats. This includes the marina we're moored at. Jimmy is lucky he only lives 30 minutes away from the marina. For myself, it's a 100+ mile drive and can't stay too long, which can be a little frustrating at times. Management changes often, and some are more strict than others on the rules. So be sure you can find a marina that doesn't have limitations. You may also want to consider doing something like a week long course to get a real feel what boat life is like. Hope this helps. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, liking the video if you did and welcome if you subscribed.
As a freshman in college, I dreamed of finding a 'boat' to LIVE ON ... this one has the look. Can't say I would like it in rough weather, but for coastal or bay it would be a lovely place to live. Lots of glass and open views, tight living quarters and neatly arranged. A truly traditional look and I love it. Perhaps it is time to dream again. 😃
Yeah, it's definitely an option to consider. If it's anything like the UK where you live, young single people can't afford their own place. So could he a good bridge while saving up. Tons of marinas in the UK don't allow people to live on their boat, and Jim lives for the most part with his folks and sometimes at his GF. There's a few more boat tour videos on my channel. A bavaria 36, my boat a SO40 and a larger version a SO45.2. I've got some more boat tours lined up. I've also got a video of real-world things to consider before buying a boat.
They were built by Fins for the Baltic and N. Sea and whilst they are not fast under sale they can cross Oceans and have managed to travel most places. British coastal waters are akin to N Main and Cape cod reaching into Newfoundland.. The other slightly later boat with the same but more offshore style is the Fishers. ..
I dunno how much you know about diesel engines, but mines got a vibration. I cant work out if its intake/egr issues or injectors.
Not too sure could be a bunch of things. Rough idling I'd maybe change the air filter, clean the MAF sensor. Won't hurt to clean the EGR valve. Doing all this assuming you have tools would cost around £30. £20 for air filter £10 for the MAF sensor cleaner.....I'd then take it for a little drive and a week later throw in some liqui molly diesel cleaner that's about £20 good stuff. Head out on the motorway in 4th gear sit there at 60mph.....then if that doesn't work head to mechanic. The Bluetooth scanners are around £70. So very affordable.
@@serenitycoastUK certainly could be a lot of things. Ive changed the oil and filter, air filter, diesel filter. Ive run diesel purge directly. Ive used diesel revive through the intake. Ive changed the pcv. Theres no injector feedback to the ecu accept crank angle point of injection. No codes. Theres a calculated load value that seems to just constantly read zero... Dunno if thats got anything to do with it. Its had cleaner in the tank and 20 miles at 3k rpm in 4th. Nothings changed. Maf cleaned, intercooler flushed. Dpf pressure and emmisions say thats clean. Only thing left is egr or intake manifold being obstructed. Will give it some JLM spray through the throttle body and see if that helps Does vibrate less when im giving it the beans which may point to poor air flow.
I have a 1985 Nauticat 44. I love the boat, but everything is a compromise. In general, they sail adequately and motor adequately, but don't do either exceptionally well. Ultimately I bought it because my wife and I are getting old and she's not a "boat person". I want to sail the world with her, so this is as about as comfortable boat as I could afford. The pilot house is really the golden crown of the boat. 360 degree visibility with a helm, and 100% protected from the weather. And if you want to open the sliding door, you get a wonderful breeze blowing through the pilot house. The bottom line with these boats is that they're "motor sailers". Motoring is apart of using it. If you're a "sailing purest", this will be a terrible boat for you. When I'm out sailing in a bay, the light weight Beneteau's sail right past me. But if there's 2 or 3 foot waves, they'll be pounding up and down and be very uncomfortable, but we will be hardly feeling it on a Nauticat. Due to the relatively narrow beam and well rounded bilges, they will role side to side badly if you're getting hit from the side with "the right" wave frequency. This is again a compromise for comfort tin heavy seas. Wide flat hulls are more stable and sail faster, but will pound horribly in "the right" seas and can make the boat feel like it's going to break into pieces. Not the right experience for a "non boat' wife. For a 33 foot boat, the Nauticat 33 packs A LOT into such a short space. It was Nauticat's most popular model, and their smallest... (Well, they did make a 32.) Nauticat made more than a dozen models from 32 feet to 52 feet. Quite a amazing line of boats. There's pretty much one for every size you could want. Keep in mind, living within your means is freedom. Bigger boats mean bigger bills and more work. Thanks for the video.
It's a really good boat! I'm trying to do a few more boat tour videos. My Sun Odyssey 40 is pretty flat underneath, so if I'm not cutting through the waves and end up slamming down, it seems a bit more dramatic than it actually is as you get loud noises. Hopefully, we will get a good summer!
@ i know those flat bottom boats are designed to take the pounding, but it would scare my wife too much. I absolutely wanted a racer/cruiser when i first started looking for boats, but the more i thought about it, they wouldn’t be a good fit for us.
Excellent. New subscriber.
thanks I've got a playlist with a mix of car repairs :-)
Great boat, video and presenter. Thanks for sharing! 👍⛵️
Thanks! I'm going to hopefully do some more boat tour videos. I've already got 2 people I know who would like one, very different boats too! Then another person who left a comment and in a nearby marina, so I'll try and find them out.
@ We’re heading for the UK this summer, and will spend the winter in Dover Marina. If you pop by you can look for a Norwegian flaged Nauticat 38.
Wonderful tour and presentation thanks so much 🎉
Thank you! it's really nice getting so many nice comments from good people. I've got a few more boat tour videos on a play list. Thanks for watching!
Superb video and what a great chap, I’m sure his business will do really well as he knows his onions! Certainly knows his boat and has updated a d maintained it really well. Is the engine a Perkins? I have a Moody Carbineer 44 with a big Perkins which is great and a not too dissimilar interior but obviously bigger. I’ll definitely look him up if I’m in that area. Thanks. Andy UK
I think it is. I'll ask him. They seem to be a similar colour. I know Volvo tend to be green. I have a few more boat tour videos, and a few more of my friends have agreed to do some boat tours, including his dad. Who is a really cool guy his family are really nice. So I'm hoping it will turn out really well!
Well done Mate!!!
Your welcome I hope it helps
@ Sure did. Appreciate the guidance!
What a beautiful boat! 😊
100%. I love the big windows to have a good look around
It's quite nice. 😂
For sure! Hopefully I can continue with some more boat tour videos. I've got a couple of people who are interested in filming their boat and I have a couple of people in mind too.
The sail maker who did my Genoa said to just use warm fairy liquid water and a brush to take off the green slime, rinse with a hose, Removing the Genoa is easy enough single handed, I’ve done mine a few times,
I'll give that a go. I've seen people soak them I'm their large wheelie bins at home, syphon the water out then give a light scrub. I should of brought it home with me....along with my tools and heat gun as it's car repair time.....again!
Nice boat would like something similar next. Should nip over to Cardiff yacht club and do ours once we've completed a few jobs.
Yeah, definitely. Will be cool to show the world your boat. Let me know when your free :-)
Thank you Mike and Scott. Good video. Lovely boat.
Thanks! I'm currently editing a Naticat 33 boat tour and have a couple of other people who would like videos made.
What weather station do you have?
The link is in the description for the weather station :-)
Had some good times on that boat!
100% and hopefully many more.
How do you know if it's bad and needs cleaning or replacement? I read somewhere if the Intake Air Temp is over 10 degrees F from the outside temp, it is bad. Is that true? I get 10 to -16 F hotter than the outside temp.
It's an easy enough job to do so maybe do it and change the air filter at the same time. Tends to be rounding and smoke clouds come out the exhaust as the air to fuel mix isn't correct. The job probably cost you about £30 for air filter and cleaner. Then I'd throw in the liqui molly system cleaner.....I have a playlist with car repairs which may interest you. I try to describe what I'm doing as clearly as possible
Very nice! The boat is in fantastic shape, hard to believe it's 20+ years old! Love the bilge light idea!
On the description there's a link to his channel where you can check out the install. :-)
Usability and safety is paramount living on board I guess .
It's a good all-rounder. People who don't really sail only take word of mouth about production boats not being any good. But 90% of boats don't move. People row across the Atlantic. Smaller boats have sailed the world. They tick a lot of boxes, and the dude has been out in rough weather.
Cool boat !
Yeah, it's nice it was a boat I was considering when I was looking. Thanks for liking the video, and welcome. If you did subscribe. I'm trying to build on a few more boat tour videos.
Marvellous boat… the best thing is you don’t need a crew to sail it.
Yeah, for sure. While I was researching, the recommendation was not to go bigger than 40ft for single-handed. I ended up with SO40, which I got for a very good price. That's on my boat tour playlist, along with a Nauticat 33 and a SO 45.2
Do you have a video on bleeding the radiator after draining?
I did a coolant flush before with the whynns cleaning, I think it was on the major car service video I did
Awesome! 👌👌👏👏👏
Thanks I've got a playlist with a few more car repairs on :-)
I moved into a house with 7 solar panels on the roof. When I look at the import and export on my smart meter I see the solar panels only produce a few pence worth of electricity on a very sunny day. They are an overrated waste of space.
Check how they are set up, we've got 13 panels on our roof. Last year Octopus paid us £600 for the electricity they generated.
Yep, it's why our energy prices are going up. the government's policies who have no real-world experience of renewables are for some reason incharge. Be interesting to see how many of the net zero MPs get jobs at these companies once they're done in politics. Like borris Johnson and his £250k for 1 hour speeches on how well the UK did during lockdown.
Can you address the problem with the oil pickup seal with these diesel insignias, if you would consider filming yours being changed. Also there is an aluminium upgrade that can be used to replace the old rubber ones, if you have any ideas that would be great 👍, fellow insignia owner here.
Sorry for the delay. I'll look into it on my next oil change. From what I've seen, it looks a bit of a headache to do, and sometimes it's worth just paying someone else a couple of quid to make the head ache go away. I say this as some models. It looks like you have to drill your way to a couple of bolts. My next job will be an oil change and the boost pipe. Which probably will be March I think I'll have the time to do it. I've got a play list with servicing along with a bunch of other jobs if you need anything.
Very interesting and many thanks. What were the issues you found with Marine16 though, please?
I've been using this one, I got it from force4 as it was recommended to me to use. Marine 16 Diesel Bug Treatment - 100ml amzn.to/3CneBlr
@@serenitycoastUK Thanks for the reply, but you mentioned you had issues with its use that you'd explain later; I didn't see that bit in the film. I'm particularly interested because I've been using Marine16 for the last 1000 engine hours without any trouble until last season when the primary filter clogged up, despite all fuel coming from reputable sources. I was wondering if the M16 was simply killing bugs that then coalesced on the tank floor, requiring mechanical removal through the primary filter or such a polishing system. Interested in any opinion you might have.
Vielen Dank für das gut erklärte Video.
Your Welcome, I am trying to get better each time.
The problem as always is the tiny little battery in the little box, Great for hobby tasks maybe
To be fair, I've found it pretty good for using my barrista machine and gaming laptop. I did make a video on what the 2000wh batteries can power with real world stuff. I've seen product reviews with people using heat guns all that type of stuff.....but I wanted to show real world stuff. Eg can I make break fast with it so make sausage and egg and 3x coffees. Then an evening test with TV, charing a normal laptop and tablet. Plus a few more scenarios. They're a pretty clean all in one unit. On my boat I have more victron stuff and regular batteries which I want to upgrade to lithium. But this has been good bridge to a full set up.
That bluetti charge thing worked a treat over the solar, Would use hardly any fuel on the yacht to charge the power station back up 👌🏻
Working really well. I am currently running down the battery while gaming will be driving for about an hour and a half tomorrow, so that should be good for another night of entertainment.
B.
Correct! We do have sun in the UK usually around 50 days a year :-)

Where’s the camping, I just saw someone sat in a car cooking.
I slept in the car over night on the blow up mattress. I do some tent camping too I large rip in my current tent something hit it in high winds.
Where you lines back to the cockpit sit along you saloon deckhead [9:44 seconds], if you place an empty ½-litre water bottle under each section (four in your case) you will not get any green slime forming under the lines and the lines will remain free of green moss and slime. You will need four empty ½-litre bottles.
On my top deck I have the plastic white tubes which has helped. The previous owner had put them there. I'll remember to keep a few spare bottles. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment it helps!
Thank you so much for your time and effort in making these videos. They are really helpful. Brilliantly formatted and great, straightforward explanations.
You welcome, I do have a playlist based on my insignia where I do a mixture of repairs/maintenance. I keep trying to make them better each time. I may do the boost pipe next time.
