Still relevant in June 2024. The reasoning for then is better than today when genocide and scorched earth policy is being supported by USA and UK governments only for the oil and gas off the coast of Gaza.
Brilliant script and actors. prescient even now in 2024.
"Yes but Israel dropped more bombs than the PLO" 😂😂
This was Margaret Thatcher's favourite tv show. Presumably she met lots of "Mr Humphreys" advising Cabinet meetings!
Humphrey is such a vibe
Replace all the newspapers with mobile phones and you could screen this today without changing a word.
The BBC would be incapable of making such comedy today.
Chillingly relevant currently.
Anyone here after Britain just abstained on the UN vote to recognise Palestinian statehood?
They just don't make quality television like this anymore, they'd never be allowed to be so brutally honest.
"I'm talking about what's right and wrong!" "Well, don't let the Foreign Office hear you."
How prophetic
Actually, the Brits did send troops to Afghanistan to help fight the Russians.
And deserted the country when ordered to be the cowardly Biden, gifting it, it's helpless people, women and girls back into serfdom, and $millions in weapons, to the Tsliban.
@@radicalcartoons2766Actually, it was the Trump administration who created and signed the deal to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. Biden merely fulfilled it. Obviously the truth doesn't fit your agenda, so you simply ignore that part.
This series should be required viewing. Hopefully, people will wake up to how prophetic it is and understand how Governments twist their lives. When we see how the UK has declined into a Nation that is has become unrecognizable.
How relevant today!
Very!
How prescient
It's a comedy - and nearly forty years old - but every word in this clip was true then and still is today.
Seems that the situation hasn't changed.....
As if UN votes are that thought through
"I gather we are proposing to vote against Israel in the UN tonight. Why?" "They bombed the PLO." "But the PLO bombed Israel." "Yes, but the Israelis dropped more bombs than the PLO did!" "Well, anyway, seem to be faults on both sides." "Not according to my advice!"
And GAZA in 2024.... 🤔🙄
This should be made compulsory viewing for every MP, pressure group and protest group. It is so depressing to see that what was considered comedy 15+ years ago is now tragedy, and worrying tragedy too.
"The Russians are too strong" That one aged like fine milk. The rest? Still as relevant as the day it was written.
I recently became a civil servant myself and this show helps me to process what I do for a living;-).
“The UN is the accepted forum for the expression of international hatred” Frighteningly relevant in 2024
So relevant today in 2024!!!
hahahhahahahahhahahahhahaha so true in 2024
Wait, was this made yesterday?
"A power speech attacking Zionism"...PM changes topics quickly. Could have just said "No no the Zionists pay us more than the Arabs ever could"
"The Americans want us to abstain" So much for NATO being an alliance of equal partners. Fair bet "want" is an understatement.
When I did British Government and Politics A level, this was recommended viewing as it was so accurate. Excellent programme.
time is a flat circle
Relevant to the hour, timeless show
Incredible. Still funny, still on the money.
the jokes still stand, which shouldn't be a surprise; the conflict is older than the UK
Still the best show ever made. Always relevant. The best humour is in the truth
That 'Don't be silly..' is just pure magic..😅😅😅
Anti-semitism was in vogue in the 80's too.
"The UNI is the accepted forum for the expression of international hatred".
It never dates, does it?
I was taught constitutional law by Geoff Hoon who went on to become Foreign Secretary. The only and best thing that I recall him teaching was to watch “Yes Minister” because it is an accurate portrayal of British Politics and our Constitution. The only things that have changed are the width of jacket lapels and the accents; mainly “Estuary English”now but the dynamics cannot have not altered.
Still on Themtube.
Brilliant, all the double dealing and hypocrisy exposed in a comedic sketch
Plus ca change
The older this gets, the more current it is! 2024
Interesting...
For those not aware the UK has flip flopped on Israel quite a bit, when this was written the UK was anti-Israel
Well actually I had to buy a guard from Roamwild to stop Parakeets feeding - not sure they count as Song birds - so you need to know about this
I now see this as a documentary.
Still relevant, just like brexit. It is funny how the arguments are even the same.
