i was reading an old interview with him and he was saying he messed up his carb thing heading up to the show with advice that didn't work. still, he doesn't look overly bloaty at all. not how they look these days...lol. still, he might have won the 93' olympia even with no great lat genetics (let's face facts, he's latless compared to ronnie and dorian) had yates not set a new standard.

Flex was the king of symmetry. He had one of the best physiques in history.
Phil Heath would destroy Flex in his prime, no doubt about it, both have awesome symmetry except Phil is about 10-15 pounds bigger than Flex ever was, not to mention Phil has better BACK, ARMS, DELTS, CHEST, LEGS........

Muscle Mike size cannot compare to perfect symmetry and the flow that flex has, imo. i am a fan of phil, no doubt but his clavicals are too narrow and his delts and arms overpower his chest. and his midsection doesnt have the tightness and sweep that flex has. flex at the 1993 olympia is the pinnacle of bodybuilding imo. too each his own i guess. muscle for muscle ronnie brought more size than anyone before him but i think his physique was not very appealing after 1999
I agree, size cant compare to perfect symmetry, but when you have perfect symmetry and you are 15-20lbs bigger than another guy who has perfect symmetry than the bigger guy wins, Phil has awesome symmetry, he does not lack ONE body part, Flex had to use synthol to round out his arms and delts, he was awesome but Phil would just destroy him if both stood side by side in their primes IMO, Flex's abs made him look that much better, Shawn Rhoden has better symmetry than Flex ever did and he cant crack the top 2
Muscle Mike well, once the oil went into flex he went downhill for me. early 90s flex > late 90s, early 2000 flex. and dont think that phil doesnt have oil in him too. hany is the master of synthol.
if not for Ronnie Coleman, Flex could have been a multiple time Olympia Winner
