After downloading all open fast VS codes, how do I get results like graphics representing available data? Please help me, sir, this is research objective ....
@@sreenuaits9420 there's a video online which does visualisation of wind data in OpenFAST. Here's the link ruclips.net/video/33IqCq0UnQE/видео.htmlsi=r8i6Lsif_ndDroDs
Thank you very much, sir.but i am facing diffculty in how to interface FAST code wind turbine date with matlab...any examples data send me sir...
@@sreenuaits9420thank you for your comment. I'll check for info on Matlab integration with OpenFAST and get back to you.
@@sreenuaits9420 here's the link to Matlab codes for OpenFAST. github.com/OpenFAST/matlab-toolbox I don't use Matlab, and I also think not much help videos are avaliable online of what a practical use of Matlab code looks like. Hi I am unable to generate .exe on build solution, I am using VS 2022 V.17.10. Could you please provide link to v17.4 to download?
Hi, did you follow the instructions in Part 2? ruclips.net/video/JQ3jtXjgfBM/видео.htmlsi=Z2xeriVVAVotyFnu You could also try to download VS2019. But I will check for v17.4
@@catchmentofresources Thank you so much for your reply, Yes, I did try 2019 as well but it does not build the solution, However with 2022 V 17.10, it does build solution without error but there is no .exe file
Good one. Great and useful enlightenment even for the layman. Thanks and more grease to your elbow.
Great work sir!
Hello, I hope you are doing well. Thank you for the great video you shared with us. Following the guidance in this video, I installed everything needed for compiling the software with the source code and then, as per the video instructions, compiled the FAST.sln file in vs code 2019. However, unlike in the video, next to the name FAST, the IFORT is not present, and it's incompatible. In fact, instead of 5 projects, there are 4. If possible, please help me.
Hello Dorsa, the IFORT has to do with Fortran. Kindly view the instructions in the video to install Fortran interface for Visual Studio
Thank you veryy much !!! You helped me a lot !!!
Hi, thanks for you videos. I am a fourth year Engineering Student and I was hoping to use OpenFast to enhance/validate our windfarm project but I can't get it to compile from source. I keep getting an error at FASTlib. Not sure if you have experienced that before?
x64\Release\simclist.obj: not a COFF object, bitcode, archive, import library or resource file FASTlib : error PRJ0019: A tool returned an error code
Hi Salif, thank you for watching the videos. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with this error notification. But with OpenFAST sometimes troubleshooting errors follow same approach. You could verify that you're compiling with the right runtime environment.
Thanks for the reply. The run environment tip worked. I switched to Linux Ubuntu and it installed without any problems. I am now having to deal with regression tests failing but at least its progress 👍 @@catchmentofresources
They seem kind of close together on the first glance, shading might be an issue. But it is quite tough to say from just the video alone.
The solar mount rows are placed 1.5meters distance apart. This was done after assessing the shading.
How can we change the geometric properties of sub structures like monopile, jacket?
The geometric properties may be changed within the Baseline folder. There are some files that contain array of numbers that describe the geometry of a monopile, jacket or an ITIBarge. Editing those array of numbers changes the geometry. Also, if arrays aren't editable then editing of the source code may be required.
How to edit source code?
In baseline folder which file I have to edit?
@@krishnarajkp6732 the source code is in C++. I don't edit source code. Let's hope you can edit the array files in the. Baseline folder and don't need to edit source code. You can also ask your question from the programmers of OPENFAST. They are on github or their website
@@krishnarajkp6732 kindly ask this question by email. akpoviroro1@gmail.com. I presently don't have OpenFAST on my current Computer; the former computer crashed.
I want to use this for my project to model an airborne wind turbine to be located in 7 regions in the UK. I have the average wind speed data of the region but don't know how to use open fast to simulate a drag-lift system or flygen system of same rating as the turbines in these existing locations
Sorry I'm just seeing this message now. Don't know what happened. A CFD application should be able to simulate it for you. Wind speed data can be input to OpenFAST but it isn't straightforward.
can you make a video on python toolbox for openfast i have been trying to install that module, but I'm unable to so far.
Hi, Thanks for this video. Everything was fine until I got the errros and warnings in the build. Most of them are related to fortran. Is there a solution for these
Hi, May be an installation of Intel frameworks will help
Very relevant information to consult. Thank you for this concised and valuable resource.
how do i change the default windspeed form 12 meters per second to something else like 15 or 20? I am using the 5MW_Land_DLL_WTurb.fst i have been searching for over a week on how to change the windspeed and i still dont know how thanks
Changing the velocity values is kind of complex, but if you have wind speed data, it's easier. Check the 5MW_ Baseline folder for Wind folder. You'll find 90m_12mps_twr
In my laptop, when I'm doing same process in command prompt, it is showing that this app can't run on your PC ..what should I do? Is there any special system requirement?

Thank you so much ! Could you make a video showing how to compute RAOs please ?
Hi @riadelhamoud8224, can you give a screen grab of where RAO is required in OpenFAST?
Hi@@catchmentofresources RAOs are not required in OpenFAST. They are computed for a given floater type e.g., RAO in surge, RAO in sway,... RAO surge gives the surge when the floater is subjected to any wave. It's like the transfer function
@@riadelhamoud8224 noted. I may do a video on Response Amplitude Operator, RAO, but since it isn't in OpenFAST, it may not be usable to a large number of people.

Thank you !!! 😊😊😊 I really appreciate and i respect people who help other with open source codes. Personally, i spend a lot of time, when i started using OpenFast.
Hi, I'm having troubles with the testing of OpenFAST. I actually did exactly what you did, but only few tests passed. Do you have some tips?
Just seeing this message... Can post a snapshot of the problem?
Here it is important to mention that the DISCON libraries have to be compiled with cmake before using the ServoDyn-module
This Part 1 focused on the already built files available from github, which already had the DISCON libraries. In part 2 and 3 there is discussion on building OpenFAST from the source code, where DISCON is also built in Visual Studio and can also be done in CMAKE.
Hi, Thank you for this vdo. I am new to OpenFAST. Could you help with a VDO or suggestion regarding activating the TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) to Tower or Nacelle. Thank you

Awesome!! Thank you so much!!
The Lagos blue light rail project was deliberately abandoned by formal Governor Ambode for Four years.
That was a poor decision from him... So many people were left in hardship along that corridor because he abandoned that project.
Das why wike remains the best in project execution.. maybe Lagos state should consult him. 4 years shd be 4yrs
Yes, Wike is a good governor for that quality of his... Fashola was a standard too.
Thanks for this interesting video. Please can you send me the link to download the step by step book you mentioned
The book is for sale... But you can get the software on demo.
The road since 2008 by fashola mile two to badagry don reach 16years still under construction
I LIKE THIS 👍
@TheRealist, thanks for you contribution to this discussion you have a wealth of knowledge that is important for Africans especially in deciding how Project financing works. If any campany can finish quality work on time the choice for the 4MRB is a good one.. so let's wait and see.
Waiting to see the outcome of this project lacks assurance. The government of Lagos need to provide assurances that this project is different from the others. Waiting for 12 years to prove who was right or wrong is dangerous.
The Chinese don't waste time, they have things to do. This project will be completed on time and within budget.
This is Nigeria but I wish this 4years completion period is truly 4years... in Nigeria anything can happen.
I also wish 4 years is true... but experience has shown otherwise.
PS: Julius Berger (which btw ended its affiliation with Germany’s Bilfinger in 2015) might well be the best construction company in NIGERIA (emphasis on Nigeria), but it doesn’t have the technical footprint, experience and reputation of CRCC which is the technical leader of the Consortium for the 4MB - nor (perhaps most crucially here) its financial might!
It is not the best hands of CRCC that are sent to Nigeria... We have seen some of their staff learning some engineering techniques from Italian companies here in Nigeria.
@@catchmentofresources so they will send “not the best hands” to build a bridge that they will FINANCE and have to operate for decades to earn a return on their investment? 🤔
@@therealist2866 Are you aware that in the commencement of the Blue Line railway project, some aspects of the bridge works were contracted out to a specialist company?
NAYSAYERS…😂😂😂 With all due respect, any opinion or thesis based on a FAULTY or INACCURATE factual premises is invariably doomed to failure or be fatally flawed. The one principal and overriding FACT missing from this “analysis” is that, unlike the various projects that you cited to support your conclusion, the 4MB is a FBOT (Finance, Build, Operate and Transfer) PPP project. In effect, the 4MB PROJECT WILL NOT DEPEND ON BUDGETARY ALLOCATIONS - unlike the Third Mainland Bridge, the Blue Line nor the Second Niger Bridge! Under the FBOT PPP arrangement, the 4MB will be financed by the FOREIGN contractors, whom will recoup their investment through the tolled operation of the bridge for 45 years. Accordingly, LET’S NOT COMPARE APPLES WITH AGBALUMO! Delays suffered by the Third Mainland Bridge, the Lagos Blue Line and the Second Niger Bridge projects were NOT due to technical, but rather financial, capacity, as the financing of these projects oscillated with the ups-and-downs of government finances and thus budgetary allocations. For the avoidance of any doubt, I am not saying (nor can ANYONE guarantee) that this project will be completed within the ESTIMATED time (emphasis on estimate), but NOT for the reasons listed here.
Similar to the FBOT for Lekki/Epe expressway which has not been completed. www.premiumtimesng.com/news/143629-lagos-terminates-concession-agreement-on-lekki-epe-expressway.html There's no point putting too many thesis/opinions when it comes to Nigeria's problems.
@@catchmentofresources you’re comparing APPLES with AGBALUMO yet again. Unlike the 4MB’s CCECC and CRCC, the Lekki Expwy’s ARM and LCC are NOT construction companies nor even a construction or engineering consortium.
@@therealist2866 In civil engineering and project management, highway projects are one and the same. CCECC has proven they are fielding low skill employees on both the railway project in Lagos as well as the Lagos/Badagry expressway from Mile 2 to Okomaiko which has also taken forever. JB completed the Orile to Mile 2 section of the 10 lane highway under 1 to 2 years. But CCECC have disorganized the whole expressway Corridor to the extent that JB has had to maintain the road multiple times. CCECC has so jagajaged the whole expressway that people hawk AGBALUMO and APPLES in the hold up their projects are creating. They are not helping us.
@@catchmentofresources so how come the same JB did not complete the Second Niger Bridge when it was first awarded under the Obasanjo administration? You think these construction companies are in the business of doing charity work without payment? Of course, once the FG escrowed monies (from returned Abacha loot) in a dedicated presidential infrastructure fund under the NSIA (the sovereign wealth fund), JB proceeded to complete the bridge without much interruption (other than COVID). Same with the Badagry Expressway and even the Blue Line. With the latter, as soon as LASG escrowed dedicated funds from the CBN infrastructure facility towards the project, the initial phase’s infrastructure was speedily completed. It may not be as simple as hawking APPLES AND AGBALUMO along Mile 2, but it certainly is not rocket science. The primary causation of the delays in the projects you cited (3MB, Blue Line, 2NB) are financial, not technical, capacity, due to the paucity of budgetary allocations (for instance, under Gov Ambode, practically NOTHING was allocated to the Lagos light rail project nor to the Badagry Expressway). Accordingly, to the extent the contractor-financed 4MB does not depend upon the government’s budgetary allocations, those projects you cited are NOT analogous. AGBALUMO may well be colloquially known as “African Star Apple” but it certainly isn’t APPLES. 😎
@@therealist2866 Your conclusion remains; "lets see how it goes"... This is not an assurance. Another 12 years to find out who is right? The aim is for government to provide citizens with an assurance.
I think it very possible to complete the bridge in 4 years. The only problem will be political and land disputes problems.
Yes... 800 houses is not a small number.
Well done and well presented. In your next one pls do more research & add more clips. Our summary of this project is it will be another white elephant and most likely will take longer and cost much more. Reason being the state 8s now now a criminal enterprise like the fantasy city 9f Gotham in dc universe. Unless a character like batman comes along expect a 2040/2050 completion. 😅
You will see more clips in subsequent videos...
Hi, Thank you so much for your video! Just one quick question: I've been running OpenFAST with "precompiled binaries" until now, but now I'll need to start using it in the "compile from source" way. So, do I have to uninstall/delete anything before starting this tutorial? Thank you for your time!
Hi @THEnukemaster11, Deleting files is not necessary. You could always create another folder in the C: drive and name it accordingly. Which will be used for the built version of OpenFAST. i.e make the new folder the current working directory before cloning the OpenFAST from github.
@@catchmentofresources Thanks a lot! I followed your tutorial and I was able to build successfully (no errors and I got the executable), but I have 1 "skipped" in the last line of the build (it seems you have it too), is that a problem? Also, besides that, the "output window" seems perfect, but if I go to the "error window" it shows 15 warnings (12 of which regarding the first line of the CUSTOMBUILD file of the MAP_dll project, saying "derived data type ... of type ... is not passed through C interface" [or sometimes F-C interface]; while the other 3 have code C4267 and regard the bstraux.c or the bstrlib.c files of the MAP_dll project, saying " '...': conversion from 'size_t' to 'int'. Possible data loss"). Is that a problem and will it badly affect the accuracy of my simulations? Thanks again for your time!
@@THEnukemaster11 It's good to hear it worked for you. I Can't really say why 1 was skipped, it may be due to prerequisites not already installed. Because while building Fast-Farm, none was skipped. Also, regarding accuracy of the simulation... The Reg_test is how to verify that your installation worked out fine. That should be Part 3 of this series. There are existing designed wind turbine system files to which a comparison is done. Thanks for your feedback.
You may also consider deleting the files and building from scratch again. In the user documentation, it says something about the compiler throwing errors in a first step. But when you cancel and restart the build process, everything works out fine.
Furthermore, there are a several .sln files you should build. Discon, MAP, and Fast. Check Part 3 video, more modules were built. No need to build AeroDyn or BeamDyn sln files.
Thank you
