Gingher scissors to replace the Wiss scissors. Upon further inspection and use, I would absolutely argue that I like these better than Wiss!

Maybe the moisture was from the joint compound when it dried. Also, your renovation might have made your house a lot tighter.
AWESOME coat, i want to do this myself and i have a couple of questions. 1) How do you find wearing clothes under it works? By that I mean, if you were to wear a shirt under this jacket, do you find the wax/tincloth finish rubs off on the shirt? 2)how does it hold up in colder temps? I've heard the wax can crack. 3) have you had to rewax or touch up the finish at all? Looking forward to hearing your results! Cheers :)
The more you wear the coat (or pants) the more they begin to feel like leather. Cracking wax is not a problem. I haven't had to rewax yet. Regarding the smell, you're going to smell like looked oil for awhile. I guess you'll just have to learn to like it😂😂
Hey man, I love it! I have an 02 Suburban that has hood and roof fade-through. I'd love to do something like this. What's a ballpark $ number for doing something like that?
HAHAHAHA…..You had me at the first “F Word”😎😎You are “coolAF, dad💥💥
They look fabulous…truly🎯 Now I know what mine will look like 😅… Blackie is a national treasure, and he seems like a cool dude😎💥💥 Thanks for the video….
What sand paper did you use?
I recently watched the video Blackie Thomas has of the mods he did to his original versions, the stainless steel and the aluminum version, and since you mentioned him I was wondering if you were planning on replicating his mod to the windscreen so that the handle of the pan didn't heat up by removing a slot from the top opposite side of the one that already has one so that the pan can be faced the opposite of the usual direction so there isn't a big hole under the handle to expose it to the heat.
No plans so far
If you can't learn something new from Blackie Thomas then you're a complete genius or you're to stupid to learn! Blackie is an encyclopedia of bushcraft, woods lore and common sense! He's probably forgot more woods knowledge than most people will ever know! He a true master woodsman!
Looks good!
Looks great,I like the green and black.
I love my PFM 40. Have you seen the new PF 34 kit?
Yes, I've seen Dave's video on the officer's canteen /flask. I have no need for that item. It does look pretty cool. I quit drinking a number of years ago, so I simply have no need for something like that.
@@floydsmith2296 same. I never drink. I think it may have other creative uses. Time will tell. Did you find the paintjob helped with soot?
I am spending 3 days in southern Ohio next week where my PFM40 will get her maiden voyage. Summer is pretty busy around here with grandkids and work. So, I haven't been able to get into the woods yet. I will pay a follow up video when I do. Thanks for the comments!
@@floydsmith2296 If you're talking about the bushcraft 101 class this month, see ya there. If not, have a good time anyway.
I've already completed Dave's courses. I hope you enjoy and get your patch! Post some pictures!
looks good sir i hope it serves you well for many years SAFE JOURNEYS
Blackie Thomas is brilliant
I believe the guy is The Lone Woodman, do you think if you used less, tung oil finish, it would be less scented? I’m ordering my supplies to make my own today. I always like to see someone else successfully attempt to replicate what I’ve seen. Good Job.
Good luck!
I've been educated! This place is actually Wayne National Forest. I think all of this property butts up to each other and creates confusing borders.
Jealous, have fun!
Ive made tin pants and jackets and shirts using the lone woodsmans recipe
What model/brand of jacket is that?
Duluth Main Wardens jacket....I think. I bought it several years ago. THEY said it was waxed already...when I received it I took it to the store with intentions of returning it. I told the girl, "That ain't wax". I think they just sprayed with NikWax or something. Anyway. I washed it a few times and you see the rest.
How has it held up ?
Going strong! No complaints.
@@floydsmith2296 very cool thanks. Just curious is there anything you’d do differently. I’m getting ready to do a jacket of mine. So I’ve been looking at all the different ways. I really like the beeswax and linseed oil. I think that’s the one. Any advice would be very appreciated.
@@richardhenry1969 I can't think of anything is do differently. If you watched Lonewoodman 's video, that guy researched and "super scienced" his formula so much that I think it came be improved on. Fjallraven and Barbour have proprietary blends of wax which are cheaper. I'll let you be the judge of you think they are better. Good Luck! Let us know how yours turns out
@ScalpingYour TP I was looking to buy 12 oz waxed canvas from SailRite. Guess what? They sell a version of their own wax. As well as cleaaners and other items. Check it out! www.sailrite.com/search?keywords=Waxed%20canvas
Looks good 👍
I heard you add some oil like mineral oil or tung oil to the melted wax and it'll make the cooled wax on the coat softer. I'm researching to try it out myself so don't take me as gospel.
According to the "Tin Pants" guy's recipe, you add boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits to the mix.
@@floydsmith2296 interestingly both tung and BLO are often used to seal wood knife handles. I bet they both have the properties you're looking for but I have BLO in the garage. Nice.
grow the beard again
What is the benefit of this over gore tex?
That's a good question. I will look into it
Fjallraven has an entire corporation of outdoor adventure clothing based on the premise the natural fiber clothing is better and we don't need to pollute the world with Gortex. That said, yeah, Gortex is an amazing fabric....amazingly expensive too! I'm not going to argue one over the other. I made this coat. I love the way it feels and looks. I'm happy.
Go walk through briars or thorns in Gore-Tex, or just look at an open flame with the traditional stuff and it melts.. That's the difference.
What a great idea!

Start when they are able to listen. 6 y sounds great. Maybe a day trip first then over night. Send them to Hidden,Hollow camp.
Great suggestions. We are taking day hikes occasionally and I will try to get more consistent about videoing the adventures. He's such a great kid, I think everyone will like him.
What in the world?!?!? You're hiking through poop tunnels now. Lol😁😆😅
