RAF Binbrook 27 January 1987, English Electric Lightning F6's and T5's of 11 Squadron and the LTF.
On a dull January day in 1987 with some snow still on the ground we see busy flying despite no 5 Squadron, as they were in Cyprus. The Lightning Training Flight was not to last much longer, and you can hear me talking to another enthusiast at Crash Gate 3 about it's upcoming demise in April 1987.

Probably my best capture of a Lightning. I had gone to Binbrook for the afternoon and been there about an hour and nothing was flying. It was also quite misty and you couldn't see the end of runway 03 from Crash Gate 3. Then a Lightning called up to taxy, destination Warton. I knew that BAE's F6 was still at Binbrook, having been one of the stars of the show, at the 'Last Last Lightning Show' o...

I then make my way to the scenic cutting to the south of the station to capture more Bulleid pacifics and Standard class locos.

Wow, amazing history👋🚂💭✨🌟💫🙏
Look like a really eagle when comes down
This was the first day in the history of aviation that we took a backward step, no more supersonic passenger transport. It's such a shame, you can see and hear what Concorde meant to everyone. I wa lucky enough to see this very flight as it was routing back towards Filton, it was a strange feeling knowing it was the last time Concorde would ever fly.
No words, just tears. :(
Awesome footage - its wonderful, sad and amusing too (all those car alarms set off by Concord as she passes.)
To hear an American pilot call concord beautiful was a stupendous thing to hear. Concord was unique. There'll never be another.
The absolute ROAR of those engines ❤ 🇬🇧 sent a chill down my spine
Gaaan my son!
brings back some good memories. Thanks for sharing.
I was there in the car park, miss her so much..... (I am testing to see if this works as I can't log into my RUclips account)
It worked 🙂
Lovely
and the weather here is still Awful :o)
Fine British weather on show there - now you know why they painted them that colour 😂 Great to see this aircraft.
Remember standing by the runways as these scrambled ,to meet those Russia bears in the 1970s
loved hearing this sound on southport marshes as a kid. My dad worked in preston after the war on the lightening. Fond memories for a plane that was never really tested in battle thankfully.
Epic,
It climbed vertically and broke the sound barrier while doing it. A truly beautiful aircraft from when Britain had an aircraft industry.
Was at Binbrook for the last dining-out. There were some really important chaps there. Another fabulous ac was the TSR2 - an awesome jet, way ahead of it's time, was cancelled by a Labour govt. ruclips.net/video/edClNWhKFEU/видео.htmlsi=gCBJOkRmTA4VYtJn
One of these did exactly this at our local airshow (RAF Abingdon) in the eighties. The point at which he went vertical and hit the gas was directly above my parents' house straight off the end of the runway. I was standing on the conservatory flat roof at the time, and the door blew open as I was bounced several inches off the roof. Flippin' astounding.
I was at that show. Unforgettable.
We had a lightning as "Gate Guardian" whilst I was there
What a machine
I was born on this very day!
My father was based at Watisham. These were fantastic. The noise used to make my mother faint. Simply stunning
that was awesome straight out wheels up and straight up think the pilot was having fun lol
This aircraft was conceived and designed in the 50's and 60's. It was and remains a triumph of British enginuity and engineering. Never forget that we did this, it was a triumph and no one has come even close to this since. It was an engineering marvel
What a piece of kit for the time, but on looking back huge waste of money as is all military equipment, only needed to help politicians wage war with their population and then pretend to care as with remembrance day, none of their offspring pay a great price, and I'm ex military?
Love this take-off then up it goes.
"Two five, good day."
Up ya GET kitten!
Many happy times spent at Crashgate 3 back in the day💥💥💥
Ohh, the Lightning ........ I used to see them at the Battle of Britain airshows at RAF Leuchars where they had a couple on runway standby that always put on a terrific show ..... the Phantom that replaced them was a brute that hadn't the elegance of the Lightning ....... what times !!
The best era. Concorde + 747
Not ruled by commie shysters
Magnificent!
Many years ago, I worked for Securicor in South Humberside, and did regular trips to RAF Binbrook, delivering items for the 'Lightning Servicing School' I think it was called.
I saw a lightning do exactly that flight at North Weald in ~1967
A Hittiile with a man on btop
I remember seeing it the 1st time as a kid at Finningly I was awestruck. I still miss seeing the one that used to be visible next to the A1 near Newark.
Basically just two jet engines with wings and a pilot! Amazing beast of a machine!
Absolutely beautiful Made in England the original hot rod of the skies
mmm..I think I might jump into my English Electric Lightning F2 and go for a bit of razz round at mach 2
The good old days right there!
Absolutely stunning.
When the russians could only dream of competing!!!
Magnificent, thank you for posting
Absolutely beautiful aircraft - such an iconic design.
I went to Binbrook in the early 90’s to watch the final flight before they retired them. I think they managed to get about 8 or 9 up to do a little ‘show’. I remember how young the pilots were, 22-23 yrs old?
Seeing that thing live barrelling down the runway must've been a sight to behold.
@@brendendas it was.
