I am a long-time runner with experience running track events to ultra distance trail runs. Road running has been my go to in recent times, running three sub-3 hour marathons in my 50s. I'm also a coach, having started almost 40 years ago, and through my love of running I want to help others achieve their running dreams.
I have been documenting my running journey on RUclips since 2019. There are hundreds of videos on the Run With Woody channel covering a wide range of topics from reviews to running tips, training series to race day vlogs - really anything to do with running in general.

STEADY RUN SESSION | Getting some zip back in the legs
Looking forward to getting to see you celebrate your 500th parkrun. Only 13 away now.
Good luck with your running journey 2025. The most important lesson I've learned this past year is that recovery is a necessity as we get older. I turned 70 this year and have realised that bashing out more and more miles does not translate into results and enjoyment like when we were younger.
Jasmin Paris....
Good call mate. Brilliant effort to finish Barkley. 👍
Great video Neil, looking forward to more videos and running moments in 2025!
Cheers mate, looking forward to see where you get to. 👍
Its not old shoes...i expected to see 10+ years models 😅😊
Haha, I did have some getting close to that age until recently, but they were in my lawn mowing rotation. 👍
Thanks you for this year and happy new year 🎆
Thanks mate. Happy New Year to you and thanks for all your support. 👍
Great video Woody and thanks. Don't really care about the Strava debunked those people who want to do that are not even worth our time here. You were a great advocate of th MAF method has it now left you running for good? I used to do it and now find that trying it again it's difficult to do it from the get go.
Cheers mate. I haven't run to MAF for along time, but still try to keep the HR down on easier runs. The body is biting back a bit recently, so I might revisit the MAF again at some stage. 👍
Please forgive my ignorance as I'm not on Strava, but how does someone else log a run for you? Do you hand over your Garmin watch to a young Indonesian kid and hope that you'll see it again after he or she has logged a run? And, asking for a friend, how much would it cost for a sub 20 minute Parkrun? 😂
Hahah, all the costings were in that article, I think it was like 20-50 cents per KM for a 4min/km run. How do they do it, I have no idea. My technology knowledge does not stretch that far, but they have obviously found a away. 👍
I red some where that Asics makes the SuperBlast 2 unisex because it is cheaper to produce and takes less time to do so. I don't think they are purposely launching small batches of these sites just to raise demand. The competition is firece and if we can't get like a Nike AlphaFly 3 we can go buy an Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 , Saucony Endorphin Elite 2 .... etc. The more a brand daleys the launch of new batches of their super expensive shoes, less cash they will make ...unless of course most buyers only buy stuff from brand A or brand B .
The unisex sizing is true, so that is even more baffling why they don't make enough to meet demand. Shoes have become hot property and I think in the most part runners are loyal to a particular brand - until there is a shoe that knocks it out of the park, then everyone one a piece of it. As runners we are not limited for choice with shoes, and companies can now use that to their advantage. 👍
The problem with the theory is that the Superblast 2 costs 200 USD. If I add sales tax and shipping fees the total is closer to $230. I can barely afford to lay out the money for one pair. As much as I would like to buy multiple pairs when they are available, I simply don't have an extra $460 or $680 in my bank account. I think most people are in a similar financial situation as myself.
At 1000k in mine. Still have lots of life
Thanks for sharing. 👍
I won't buy them because of price. I stick with the Novablast for that reason. Do my long runs in Saucony Speeds but Puma Deviates will replace them soon and just picked up the Puma Vilocity 3 for 95 bucks NZ.
Nice to get a mention in one of your videos mate. I know I've ridden you hard at times over the years, but only for motivation. Read Born to Run years ago and went down that barefoot running shoe (there's an oxymoron) path, but then went max cushion, and Hoka was the forerunner back then. These days it's whatever is cheap and reasonable, but as you say, supply and demand is pushing the price up. I'm good for a couple of years. I have my trail shoes, my race shoes, my daily trainers and my long run shoes. I'll sit back and watch what unfolds. Run well Woody 👍
Great vid
Cheers Steve, Thanks for watching. 👍
Great hat by the way...is it a runners hat or just a casual lifestyle type....may I ask where you got it?
Thank you. That was an event hat from the Yandina 50 trail race. A great event on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. 👍
Got 600km on mine and still going strong. While $320 is steep, it’s better value than other daily trainers per km. Other daily trainers are dead by 400km I’m my experience.
Thanks for sharing mate. When you work it out this way the excessive price is a little more acceptable. 👍
It's insane to me that I live in Japan and despite ASICS being a Japanese company, can't buy them anywhere.
That is crazy. I'm coming to Japan in February and hoping to check out the local running stores. 👍
I really appreciate your efforts! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
🤷♂️ Sorry!
Longruns, recoveryruns, tempo..., not too important 1/2 & 1/1 marathons. They work well to all this and most importantly, they are pure bliss to my feet, I almost feel better after the run is complete than before😅. Have bought a new pair in another color, but will easily do 1000km in the Paris edition (also include quite a few treadmill sessions).
Thanks for sharing. You don't mind forking out the big bucks if you are getting value for money. Looks like they're working a treat for you. 👍
the cost of the Super lasts has not gone up. it's not a plot to sell more shoes, it's due to being a great shoe.
I didn't say they had gone up, just that they were expensive and hard to get your hands on. Asics has severely under supplied each version, meaning there was a mad rush to get your hands on a pair. They may not have done this on purpose, but it looks that way. Having said all that, I agree with you - they are a great shoe. 👍
It's definitely a great marketing ploy and it has worked. Runners are now eagerly willing to pay over $300 for a non race day shoe and what's more they are convinced it is good value. Other brands need to think smarter if they want to grab market share. Adidas have finally come to the party with the EVO SL. People may be negative about the marketing tactics Adidas have employed but it will work. I guarantee the shoe will sell out as it is drop fed into the market. Running shoe marketing is taking cues from old sneaker marketing to drive hype, hike up prices and create a secondary market for resale such as StockX and the like. But the good news is for the average runner you can find very good shoes (outside of the hyped/'influenced' ones) for under $100 these days especially during sale periods. Excellent video that gives you pause to think about how we get manipulated so easily through social media advertising and the marketing strategies of brands.
Thanks for sharing mate, and you make some good points. Companies are putting more tech into their cheaper shoes, but even those prices are creeping up. A good cheap daily trainer could make a killing on the market. 👍
More runners than ever running marathons and more people looking for an advantage equals more shoes sold. There's no conspiracy. The first superblast was actually readily available with youtubers actually not knowing how to place it and saying it was too expensive. I remember thinking these guys are actually clueless then the penny dropped as all the club runners snapped them up.
Yes, there are more runners, but shoe companies are not meeting the demand, that's why these shoes are hard to get, and companies know they can drip feed as much or as little as they like. I'm not sure where you are, but I tried for almost 8 months to get a version 1 pair in US11.5 and couldn't. There's no doubt it's a great shoe, but be nice if there were a few more available. 👍
@runwithwoody I believe with asics it's a supply issue so the shoes are made but logistically they struggle to get them to suppliers. In uk. I had superblast 1 then got superblast 2 on release and just got the second release in the new colours. With most popular things these days you just have to plan your shoe purchase in advance. Like sign up to notifications with asics and you'll know the date to buy.
Demand is more than supply of the SuperBlast 2s because the SuperBlast 1s were fantastic, and word got around. 🤷🏻 BTW, Europe has no shortage of SuperBlast 2s. I live in Germany and can easily order them in all the colors.
Where (im from Germany too) ?
Small feet only, anything above 10 44eu size you can't find them
@@kevinvantroyen Yeah i found on i run but the new colourway its not mine
Thanks for the info. 👍
it's so hard to find a pair here in uae but lucky to purchase 1 pair before christmas.😊
Yeah, they're a pretty popular shoe. You did well to get a pair. 👍
Such a brilliant super trainer. First run in mine today. I reckon I could do a half easily in these. Brilliant comfort and stability.
Glad you like them, and yeah, they go OK in a half marathon. They'd be good for a marathon as well. 👍
Can’t buy this shoe anywhere in the uk,you can’t even buy the novablast 5 on the asics site, these reviews of a shoe you can’t buy are becoming pretty pointless. ASICS need to sort themselves out.
Rolex did the same thing and prices went astronomical
It's heading that way with running shoes, look at NB. 👍
Hey Woody, I stockpiled a lot of shoes (predominately NB) a few years ago, when I saw them at really good prices. When I started using a handful of them earlier this year, I found the cushioning (foam) had set like concrete, even though I hadn't run a step in them. Long story short, I found the only way to resurrect them was to stick them in the (electric) oven - 5 minutes at 40 degrees - just before I run in them. But I have to do this before every run. It's not like one session in the oven fixed them permanently. And just some constructive criticism - it's Ni-Kee (Nike), like "bikie" 😃😄
Hey mate, I have heard of the foams going hard if they are not used for a while, but yours is an interesting approach. And Nike - yeah I have the same problem with Saucony and Hoka. 👍
My son does his long runs exclusively in these shoes. So that's 20km per run. Im guess these will go to about 600 km. So that's 30 runs. At $320, that's about 10 dollars per run.... Whether they're value for money is an individual choice but he loves going to run in them so I think it's worth it. #runnermath
These should go way beyond 600km. They are an absolute tank of a shoe. I have over 600km on my pair already and they feel far from done. Outsole durability has also been stellar.
650 miles before I retired my superblast 1 and they really didn't feel much different to when then were broke in after 70ish miles.
Took my first pair of Superblast 2 to 500 miles or 800km. I still use them for shorter recovery runs too. Makes them even cheaper per a run at that mileage.
Hey mate, if they work then that's great and your son is getting value for money. I reckon he might squeeze a bit more out of them than 600k. 👍
I went and purchased the Novablast 5 which is a nice light shoe, the Superblast 2 is almost out of my price range. Although my saucony Endrophin pro 4 was over the $300 mark.
Same!
I'm a bit of a Saucony fan as well. I love the first three versions of the Novablast, i skipped v4. I have been thinking I might jumping into the v5s. 👍
Hey Woody any chance of a strength and conditioning advise video for 1st time marathoners
Hey mate, I'm not a PT, but I'll see what I can bundle together for the video in the New Year. 👍
I love the medal. It's the Cadbury Marathon Festival. Lean into it. Better than just another round medal.
Hey mate, it's definitely not round. For me, it just lacks a little oomph!👍
Hi Neil, we had our annual holiday at Mooloolaba last week so I can totally relate to how brutal that heat/humidity was! 🥵 Still managed to get in two of my favourite sessions for the year...some 1km reps on the Tuesday on the hard sand along Mooloolaba beach, and a tempo run up to Cotton Tree and back on the Friday, trying to stick to the grass parkland surfaces where possible 🏃♂Beautiful part of the world! Have a great Christmas with the family and thanks for another great year of inspirational and motivating content...appreciate all the effort you put in! 🙏🧑🎄👍
Mooloolaba is a beautiful place, glad you had a good time. It's one of our favourite spots that area, we may end up living there one day. I've run many times where you did and just over the headland is where race precinct is for the Sunshine Coast Marathon. But at this time of the year it is bloody hot. Thanks for all your support this year and I appreciate your kind words! 👍
Much better than a chokito bar. 😂
I used to eat those all the time as a kid. Loved 'em. 👍
It should be a Caramello Koala
Thanks for the video. Good info. The woosh sounds when graphics came in and out was a little loud and distracting to be honest.
Thanks for the feedback, mate. I will adjust for future. I think my headphones are on the way out, so might be time to update.👍
Merry Christmas Neil & Trish
Thanks Alan. Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏿 to you and your family.

Thanks for all the great content and information mate! Have an awesome Christmas!🤙🤙
Merry Christmas mate, hope you have a great one too!🎄 Thank you for your support. 👍
Not a fan of the medal too - but a huge fan of your channel. Missed out on both Berlin and Chicago, so for me it's the Gold Coast this year. Enjoy your runs and keep up with the authentic and informative content! I almost forgot - merry Xmas Woody!
Thanks for the support, and Merry Christmas to you too! 👍 Looking forward to the GC and might see you there.
Still have those NB V1 but I think 1 more 10k race on grass and they will be done. Magic speeds were done at 500k. Got too firm. I'm surprised you don't think they are firm.
Hi Alan. Yeah, those RC v1 were a great shoe. I am tempted to have a look at the SC version, but price has me wary. I agree the Magic Speeds are a little firm, but not going too long in them anymore and they work Ok for the shorter quality stuff. 👍
Geez I love buying new shoes
Hahaha, my bank balance doesn't. But I need some new ones.👍
Technology evolves, foams have become lighter and more responsive, and we move along with these improvements. Having said that, i would still consider trading my reasonably late model car for my beloved 84 VK Commodore. No USB ports or drink holders but jeez it sounded good with the extractors on it.
Hahaha, yeah there were some good old cars back in the day. No doubt about the technology, interested to see where it gets too with running shoes. 👍
Its like a Its a knockout contest, I have purchased some new shoes and at the end of the year 2 of mind are getting the chop.
Yeah, it's a bit like that. I go through stages of having a lot of shoes and then don't get to run in some of them all that much. So it was good to revisit them and give my current rotation a bit of a break. 👍
I say what's the point in entering any marathon these days, most of them are poorly organized and a rip off money wise. I say go on a nice private run in a place you've never been before, or a hike to a beautiful place. Running a marathon is not like it used to be, just a cash grab now. Have fun, run, hike and forget about these over hyped running events, save your cash and enjoy a new experience.
Unfortunately mate that is the case for many events. But events also have huge overheads now that were not there not all that long ago. There is an attraction to join like-minded people and run these events, but you also cannot beat exploring new locations - getting lost and uncovering hidden gems. 👍
I'm honouring my Welsh and Irish Forefathers
Fantastic mate. 👍
