40 Gbps NVMe SSD Enclosure Battle: ACASIS vs. HYPERDRIVE vs. JEYI
Просмотров 6 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Comparing the popular Acasis TBU401 enclosure (JHL7440 Thunderbolt 3 controller chip) with HyperDrive and Jeyi enclosures (new generation ASM2464PD USB4 controller chip). The enclosures were paired with a Samsung 990 Pro (2 TB) tested on a MacBook Air M2 (16 GB RAM, 512 GB). - Unsponsored Video - Affiliate Product Links: ACASIS TBU401 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure amzn.to/3NnGdJr JEYI 40Gbps US...
Using windows 11, do u guys do this Right-click the drive on which you want to turn disk write caching on or off, and then click Properties. Click the Policies tab. Click to select Better performance. Click to select Enable write caching on the device. Only by enable this, my write speed is bump up from 500Mb/s to 2600MB/s
Thanks a lot. This was very helpful
Great benchmark. But please consider doing stress testing for thermal throttling.
Good review - thanks.
hey I have Orico 40gbs c01-04 model but it has as I understand only 2tb support But now I need to decide which enclosure I need to buy for my Samsung 990 Pro 4TB 🤔 I need to choose between Ugreen 40gbs or JEYI 2464 (fan version is better or simple one without fan) so what to choose really don’t know ??)
Zikedrive...
Yes? Is it better
how about stability? Some video show that the ASM2464 sometimes disconnect during large file transfer.
Are you sure you don't have your read and write results swapped? Write = copying 100gb movie file from your TB4 connected computer TO the enclosure drive Read = copying 100gb movie file FROM the enclosure drive to your TB4 connected computer My numbers are similar to yours but it's the other way around eg 1.5GB/s write (cache off) and 3GB/s read.
Hi yes, your understanding is correct. However, one thing that you have to consider as well is that when writing (copying) to the destination device, the writing speed will be affected by the read speed of your origin device. If the read speed of the origin device is less than the writing speed of the destination, then the writing speed will be limited by the origin device's read speed (and vice versa). I don't know your device speed, but yeah, that might affect it as well.
@@HandriosTechTalk Thanks and true. I've got a Samsung 990 pro and it does well over those speeds so I don't think it's my drives per se or system in general. Could be the ports, could be the enclosure or could be the controller.
What was the maximum amount of data you were able to get on it? It performs well in tests, but when you need to load 500GB of data on it, it just overheats and crashes! What kind of drive did you put in it?
I used Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB capacity, and never had a problem when I had around over 800 GB in it.
@@HandriosTechTalk Strange, I have a MacBook Pro, but both HyperDrive enclosures work horribly. I don't know why. Do you have the drives plugged in all the time? Or do you only plug them in when you need to write something to them?
@@viktorascybulskis I don't plug it all the time. One that I plug all the time is the Crucial X9 Pro. If you keep on having issues, you should contact HyperDrive directly, that might be the best recourse.
great video, hope you get to review the new Satechi M.2 enclosure and MAIWO USB4.0 enclosure
Ah yes, Satechi is on my radar but a small channel like mine couldn't yet afford it! I will check on MAIWO. Thanks!
Well done - Great start to a great channel - Keep up the good work
Thanks for watching!
I would like to write my experience of using HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure. I installed Kingston KC3000 M.2 NVMe SSD (2280) 4096G in it.File copying speed - write 3169.9 MB/sec read 2978.1 MB/secDisadvantages:The HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure gets very hot during prolonged use. If you have a plan to download a lot of small files from the internet to it and the whole operation will take 5-6 hours (like me from Australia) then get ready for the HyperDrive to be almost impossible to hold in your hands after this operation due to the temperature.I have noticed random disk shutdowns on MAC. For some unknown reason, the drive randomly shuts down after an unspecified amount of time. If you pull out the USB-C cable and plug it back in, everything starts working again. Therefore, I cannot recommend this device for purchase.Or be ready for unpleasant surprises right away.P.S.I will have to try how Kingston Fury Renegade M.2 NVMe SSD (2280) 4TB will behave in HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure - after the experiments I will try not to forget to report back. I would like to add another disappointing news - today I tried to transfer 200GB from internal disk to HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD. On MAC M3 MAX - as a result, halfway through the process I got an error - The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 100083). Disconnected and reconnected HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD and when trying to continue copying after about 30 seconds I got the same message (The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 100083). I don't know what causes this error. Controller or USB-C cable. But I am using the cable that came with the HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD
Temperatures? which one is the coldest?
To complete test, you should test temperature under load. . Temperature decide wich one is the best.
I agree! I will in the near future add temperature readings in the description.
@@nurhandrio Until you make the video, can you advise (just from primary observations) the Hyperdrive for someone that is wanting to be loading apps like Divinci Resolve? Im liking the product but Im afraid of it overheating lol
Hi everyone!!! After looking at the beautiful ads - I bought a HyperDrive Next USB4 SSD Enclosure - and after it stays connected to a Macbook pro 16 M3max for a long time (2 or 3 hours), the temperature of the disk rises very high. I use the Enclosure even without the silicone cover. Who has encountered a similar problem?
All 40 Gbps NVMe enclosures will inevitably become hot especially when under constant R/W operations, because NVMe SSDs are very fast and hence the heat. When I tested all three enclosures they did become very hot which is to be expected. Most manufacturers will rate their SSDs safe operating temperature up to 70 C. Of course, if your enclosure heats up to over 80 C, then that might indicate thermal design issues.
@@nurhandrio Hi, thanks for the reply. It's hard to say what temperature they are heated to since I just don't have a thermometer to measure the temperature. But I think it's below 70 degrees since I can hold them in my hand.
@@viktorascybulskisyes, then most likely that's still within the expected thermal! :)
TLC vs QLC - X9 pro version have better more roboust tech inside. 5y limited quarantee is what it is better to go with 30USD more and get X9 pro.
Yeah certainly!
Just the sort of review I was looking for, thanks!
I hope you found it useful!
Nice comparison. Here difference is 15$ but I will choose this X8 4TB because I have only USB3.0 so max 500MB/s. And bigger disk means better cooling.
thanks for information love from India
Let me know which enclosure you are interested in and your use case!
can u tell ,me which enclosure I can use with firecudda 530
@@AKSHAYKUMAR-m1o1y I haven't tested the Firecuda 530, but any of the enclosures in the video should be able to be used with the Firecuda 530. I tested all these enclosures with the Samsung 990 Pro, and both the 530 and 990 Pro are PCIe Gen 4.0. Of course, the speed of any of these gen 4 drives will be reduced in these enclosures.
thank you so much bro@@HandriosTechTalk
the tbu405 pro with the fan. have you had a chance to try that one?
