"Iklığ", which I wrote for solo violin last semester, was performed by my dearest teacher, violinist and composer Ceren Türkmenoğlu, whose musicianship, personality and effort I admire, at our New Music Ensemble concert and Hoppa Project concert. I cannot be grateful enough that this piece came to life with the perspective of a musician like her. The ıklığ is actually a very old stringed instrument that in the traditional music of Western Anatolia. In this music, the entire piece is played with the mute in order to get closer to the timbre of the instrument. Of course, there are many ways to be inspired by traditional music, and in the first movement, I tried to express the traditional form such as "açış (improvisation) and "hoplatma" (fast dance) with a limited aleatory that the performer decides at that moment, without being directly constrained by the notation. I wanted to base this on the idea of writing twenty-four motifs, each with a different character, based on the performer's choice, and each time returning to the perfect fifth interval we see in the performance of ıklığ - completely different from the previous one like traditional "açış".
