The vigilantes carry a gun because in years before the current government it was dangerous, the old politicians had a pact with the gangs and the citizens got tired of those politicians they showed it in the vote and well the current president won and everything is better the old ones are crying in United States asking for help to return But they have the total rejection of the population , but today everything is totally safe the police are more effective and well the citizens can say it It is currently the safest country in Latin America I hope you enjoy your trip, good vibes 👍🏻💯

Reason they don't like it it's becuz usually their neighbour's don't know they're police or military. Some of this eneighbours would be happy to kill a police or military. So they would go out in plains civilians clothes and changed into their camo uniform until they get to their base. They will usually be deployed in a completely different location from where they live. Please don't film their faces, or at least blurry them. Their whole families lives might be very well at risk.
