2007 Pathfinder Fuel Sending Unit Repair
Просмотров 90 тыс.10 лет назад
Repair of a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder Fuel Sending Unit using a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer Sending Unit. Don't replace the entire pump assembly. Search Ebay for "New Premium High Performance OEM Replacement Fuel Level Sensor" with P/N SK1158....was $15. I had to use a Dorman 911-013 due to local availability. I replaced the "wiper" only and saved $$$.

    Great video. Have you had any further issues after replacing just the blade? I have a 2006 Pathfinder and I'm having this fuel gauge problem too. I'd like to use your approach but would like to know if you had any other issues arising from just replacing the wiper instead of the all sending unit as a mechanic recommended to do

      I had no issues but have just recently sold the vehicle.

      I just checked eBay but cannot verify this one - www.ebay.com/itm/New-Premium-High-Performance-Fuel-Level-Sensor-Sending-Unit-SK1158-SK1159-/170666213428 It says it fits an SK1158? Evidently the SK1158 is an AC Delco part number. The Dorman 911-013 is available on Amazon if you prefer ( www.amazon.com/Dorman-911-013-Fuel-Level-Sensor/dp/B0075D0U5A ). At the time i used the Dorman but it was more expensive.

    Hello, very nice video, very impressive information, you are very smart. I have 07frontier and I get the"service"light on, and the fuel gage won't work, eventually reads the correct level at half tank, auto zone said is the fuel pump replacement job, I wonder if I can do just sending unit replacement only thank you

    • @athomesolution
      @athomesolution 7 лет назад

      Thanks for your comments. I checked with Auto Zone and see that the 07 Pathfinder and the 07 Frontier (6cyl) use the same fuel pump. If that is the case it will probably work for your vehicle.

    do you have a vid on where it is on the car and replacing it?

    • @athomesolution
      @athomesolution 7 лет назад

      It is inside the fuel tank. Unfortunately you have to lower the fuel tank and remove the pump assembly. There are many videos that show how this is done.

    Thank you very much for this excellent suggestion. I just replaced my fuel sending unit wiper at my 2005 xterra and it works. I followed exactly your instructions and magic happened! The dealer wanted $122 for the level sending unit while I fixed it with $15 (bought the part on ebay). Thanks again for this very helpful video.

    WOW! thanks for this! This whole time I thought the float wasn't floating like a broken toilet.

  • @deongrein

    This worked 100% on my 2008 Nissan pathfinder. The strips on the fuel float are much thicker and more solid than the nissan factory ones. I imagine that would allow for longer life. Thank you for making this video!

    Worked like a charm!!! $16 buck from Amazon. How did you figure this out? Either you're a car mechanic (and done many repairs) or you work in an industry that build fuel sensors. Nice work!

    • @athomesolution
      @athomesolution 7 лет назад

      No, not a mechanic. Actually an engineer on a budget!! How I figured it out?......Well I did not want to pay top dollar to replace the fuel pump. After removal i checked the signal from the sending unit and noticed the wiper issue. I first tried to re-bend the fingers but it didn't work. I essentially went to google searched for pictures of sending units. That is how i narrowed down similar units. I then went to the local parts store and pulled other sending units that i believed to be similar. Making the video was the really effort! I decided to "pay it forward" because i too have found many videos that have saved my day. Thanks for all the great comments.

    Hey, anyone who comes up with a way to save people hundreds of thousands of dollars (we all know most Nissans have this issue) deserves recognition!. Thumbs up ! Now if we could figure out how to do it without taking the tank down :P

    Didn't Nissan have a recall for this issue? Repair would have been free of charge correct?

    • @liquidatom
      @liquidatom 9 лет назад

      +Javier Quintanilla The recall extended your warranty until May 2013 or 72k miles w/e came first. Mine started well after those two markers.

    • @valm8090
      @valm8090 9 лет назад

      +Javier Quintanilla I have a 2008 Pathfinder, and when i enter the VIN to do a recall search at Nissan's site - nothing comes up. Not this, not the crash sensor issue (though i have that problem - airbag light on)..nothing... I won't buy a NIssan again. They're a bunch of crooks. My fuel level sensor failed 2 days after the warranty expired. Dealer wants $460... The window switch failed - one single sliding SMD component that probably costs 5 cents... can't buy it...must buy entire assembly for $200+..Crooks.

  • @MUSTANG408W

    Being that the fuel level sending unit and fuel pump are one whole assembly it just makes no sense to fix just one part of it (the level sender in this case). You'll be causing yourself more work later on when you have to drop the tank again to replace the whole fuel pump. Not everyone has the time, luxury, or know-how to take smaller parts apart like in this video. Best advuce is just to replace the entire assembly so you don't have to deal with it for a long time if ever again. Simply pull the old pump/level sender assembly out and install the new one. Done and over with.

    • @TheGuruStud
      @TheGuruStud 9 лет назад

      +MUSTANG408W Ha, it's not a domestic. The fuel pumps RARELY fail (tons of nissans with 200k+ with no issue). And usually when I hear about one it's b/c of women running the tank nearly bone dry every time before fill up.

    • @MUSTANG408W
      @MUSTANG408W 9 лет назад

      +David Smith I never said anything about dealing with a dealership. I'm a Do-It-Yourselfer, too. I maintain what I said about just replacing the whole thing. Don't get me wrong, it good to know you can do this, but it isn't easy for a lot of people out there to do their own work and when it IS feasable why chance replacing one part of an assembly that's hard to get to only to have to drop the tank soon afterwards to replace the other part of the pump assembly? That's what I'm getting at. Save the effort and time by just doing the entire assembly all at once. "Work smarter, not harder" (not implying you're dumb or anything, just saying).

    • @MUSTANG408W
      @MUSTANG408W 9 лет назад

      +TheGuruStud I agree with you there's plenty of Nissan trucks out there with a lot of miles on them. Doesn't mean they'll last forever does it? I know. Foreign or domestic doesn't make a difference, either. I've replaced one in a 2005 Pathfinder with 140K and on a 2007 Xterra with only 79K on it. Fuel keeps the pump cool internally regardless of the fuel level inside the tank. Fuel pumps don't get "hot" per say the way people think. If they did the pumps would be external to the tank, not internal. I know fuel systems as I work on aircraft powerplants and they are a lot more complcated than a car/truck fuel system.

    Thank you very, very much for your time in putting this video together. I've got this problem now with my 2005 Nissan X-Terra. NAPA Auto Parts has quoted me over $700 to replace the entire module. Quite a funny thing to do, considering that only that one small plastic piece needs replacement. Thanks.

    Thank you for you video, just I change my,now the fuel level gauge read, and the check light off, just the wiper,just one problem, one of the screws holding the gas tank went break,took me about three hours out with my drill and bits, but only spent $ 12.75 for the sensor, $ 10 bit and 50 cents a screw, but I save good money
