RMRX 8019 is by far my favourite Rocky mountaineer locomotive as I got to hop in and operate it last year during a Rocky Mountaineer open house! Notice how the engineer was hanging out the window, that’s because he tossed me some gold Rocky Mountaineer pins.

Here’s a compilation of clips I filmed in the late afternoon hours of Tuesday, August 27th. I used my Canon EOS Rebel SL3 with a 55-250mm telephoto lens to film these clips instead of my iPhone XR which is the device I typically use for videos. It’s always a treat to see the Royal Canadian Pacific in action, and it’s been over two years since the train has been in my neck of the woods. The newest pieces of equipment on this train are actually the locomotives which date back to the late 1950’s. This Wednesday evening I figured it was a good time to drag the DSLR and tripod to the corner of my street to catch VIA #1 departing for Vancouver. VIA number 1 was running about an hour and forty five minutes behind schedule tonight, which led to some nice sunset colours appearing once the train finally departed for the west coast. Sorry folks! Totally missed the premiere! I had it originally scheduled for 11am, but when I changed the time to 10am, I forgot to turn on the notifications to alert me. 😂

Thanks David, I’m glad you liked it. The video definitely turned out better than I was expecting, I just propped my cell phone up against a pole lol.
Excellent catch, it's rare to see a train purely of boxcars these days and the KCS unit was a bonus.
Thanks David, it certainly is. I guess the pulp mill needed an abundance of boxcars on their property since that’s where this train terminated.

Fantastic video Lucas. I missed the premier due to my internet shutting down on me. Rick and I caught this train at mile 3 and it was completely stopped at mile 3.5 behind a freight at mile 4.3. There was another freight ahead of that at Red Lake crossing. After an east bound had cleared they all got going again and Rick and I were in place at mile 5 (Robertsons) to get it again.

Cowl Units are rare. Is sad. I say that Locomotive manufacturers should invest in creating new Cowl Unit diesels. If the Alaska-Alberta Railway becomes a thing, I do believe Cowl Units should definitely be implemented because they would provide protection from the extreme cold of the far north.
Nicely done Lucas. I looked a that very spot earlier this week and thought it would be good. I got the train at MP 3 as usual.

I can vividly recall when some of these were flying with American Eagle Airlines in the late 1980s, from 1986 thru 1989-90. They were replaced by modern ATR's and SAAB 340's, which I also liked. But I'll admit I kinda miss being able or allowed to watch these Convair 580s in full action at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport in Northeast Texas, back in 1986-87. They were fun to watch.

The KCS units were bound to make it onto the point, it looks good. I was in town today and saw heritage unit 7013 looking rather grungy.
I've been told CPKC crews get paid extra for taking trains with KCS units leading. They're not too popular due to their lack of fridge and hot plate. 7013 is definitely filthy these days, saw it a couple weeks back.
That tank train is one I've wanted to capture Lucas. do you know what it hauls? David.
743 is crude oil loads bound for Seattle. Gets handed over to BNSF in Thornton yard and then heads south.

Haha, yes this one was pretty lengthy. Couldn't feel my fingers after I finished recording. I've been told that CPKC has been combing trains due to congestion on the Mountain and Laggan subdivisions, so this is why these "mega-trains" have been passing through. Cheers.
Superb catch Lucas. I read your description here and thought "They are nowhere near 50 years old." then I checked and they are 45! I can remember those number series when they were brand new! good to see them still in service.
Thanks, David. CP has recently been upgrading their fleet of SD40-2s by repainting and overhauling them, so I'm sure they'll be around for many years to come.

We've all got to start somewhere I suppose...meant to give you a call, but that BCR unit went through this morning at 3am. However, CP 7010 will be leading a grainer west into town this evening around 5.

Thanks, David. I was lucky the train didn’t pass just a few minutes later, or the light would have disappeared. If I didn’t leave the house in such a hurry, I might have remembered the tripod lol.
Just noticing now that the angle of the camera keeps getting higher and higher as the video goes on, I guess that's what happens when you stick your phone in a snowbank and hope for the best! 😂
