I believe the reason your ancestors were persecuted, was that they refused to abandon their tribal customs and identity. The goal was to intellectualize blacks, because for thousands of years, you guys had not accomplished a single thing. For colonists, a necessary process of conversation needed to take place to help blacks become full fledged Americans. The brains of black people were fried from living in hot conditions, enduring malnurishment, and practicing tribal customs, for thousands of years. The road to becoming an intellect, requires an individual to abandon all ties to ancestrial lineage, and all things tribal or archaic. Blacks simply refused. As a result, they were punished and and held back, so as to prevent them from continuing practices that encouraged scientific ignorance. The few that did convert, were rewarded with inhertance, legal protections, and education, and were able to progress in American society. We see the effects of intellectual deficiancy and scientific ignorance in black communities, and black culture, to this day.
