I still shudder to call myself an artist. Been shooting for over 33 years and still evolving. Medium and Format neutral-I shoot digital and film, 35mm, Medium Format and Large Format.
Printing is my therapy. Whether digital or Analog, I print seamlessly depending on what the picture has to convey. I dabble in silver Gelatin, Platinum Palladium, Kallitype and Salt printing along with Digital inkjet Giclee printing.
Hope you become part of my journey and enjoy it as much I do.

Two great cameras, the Leica Q3 and the Fuji GFX 100 II in hand but which one is more practical and useful given certain weather conditions and situations? The 60mp Q3 is full frame and the 100mp GFX is medium format, so on paper the GFX would be everyone's first choice but do shooting conditions change that choice upside down? Check out the...

Creative Portraits with the TTArtisan 50mm Tilt Lens

The Leica IIIg and Ricoh GR 28mm: Timeless Classics on KitKarma-2
I've had a Q3 43 for 2 weeks and I have been particularly unimpressed with the AF and image quality. Such a over-hyped camera.
I have both and love it. I'm blessed, not loaded. Great review. I do find them very complementary to each other and am enjoying the smaller lighter kit.
You missed the point again on skin tone, I have both 28mm and 43mm and there is skin tone difference in Raw... Q3 28 is more yellowish vs Q3 43 is more if Nikon / Fuji color rendering. Did you notice that?
@@07SATS sorry but did not shoot the exact same frame with both to really compare skin tones. Shooting separately I don’t think I noticed any palpable difference.
@@shootprocessprint yeah I was surprised to test side by side. Q3 43 gives an amazing skin tone compared to Q3 28 in RAW. I know post-processing things can be corrected but default RAW should give perfect skin tones. Please see if you can make quick video... I don't make youtube videos otherwise I could have uploaded it LOL
@ dang. I did have them together but never shot side by side and checked. Will see if I get another shot at it.
Really, I too have both, but not noticed a difference?
@@madefromfilm Check direct raw comparison for the skin tones! You will see the difference.
Great insights! Love the flag picture!! Have you tried the macro capabilities for q3 43? One last question whats the brand for your gold base plate fort the q3 28. Thanks
@@nawafal-fassam8786 the Cadillac logo picture is in the macro mode. Shot a few more and they look lovely. The base plate is made by a company called AGS.supply ags.supply/pages/leica_q3
Analog 📷📸📷 are awesome and timeless
I think the colours from leica are more authentic 😊
@@anja6807 the Leica color science is my favorite but Fuji is great too. In these pictures I shot most of the Fuji shots before sunrise or when it was cloudy and the Leica when it was mostly sunny so Leica does appear better.
The most sensible comparison so far, with good points for keeping the 28 Q over the 43 Q, and vice versa.
@@orjos2 thank you
Looking forward to large format on site tutorial if possible ✌️
coming up soon
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀👍
I see it is more about versatility: one has a fixed 28mm lens (only wide angle) - you showed quite a few shots with the GF 80mm, or any other focal lenght. The Gfx having Ibis, you can shoot handheld with both, quick shot with the Fuji 35-70mm is not a problem. There is a difference with weight, so I would probably take my Fuji X kit with 2-3 lenses with me - much lighter, yet great image quality.
THE BEST review so far, thank you. Would have loved to see some of those miniature effect photos here though.
I shoot film because there is no easier solution to make sure your images are viewable more than 20 years into the future. Lost years of digital images from hard drive failures before. All the film I've shot, I still have them. That's something not many people think about.
True
If only there was a way to print digital photos...
@@Elisha_the_bald_headed_prophet you mean analog printing of digital pictures? You can do alternate process printing by converting them to digital negatives. I have a video on that
Im a wide shooter. Just am. The wider the better. I want as much information in my photos as possible. But others feel they need more reach and less information. And sometimes that is actually what I need for a situation. So I bought a Sony a6700 to go with my Q3(28mm) with some nice Sony primes for those situations where the 28mm just won't do it. All of this still fits in a little shoulder bag.
Really insightful video! Thanks for putting this together and explaining your shot process. And of course, some really nice images you got there 👌
@@mnltphts thank you
Your pictures with the Leica are incredible vs your medium format photos. What preset would you use for best jpegs directly from the Q3: standard, naturel, vivid, or else (maybe one of the Leica looks) ? Thanks Phil
@@Philou91 thank you. In my opinion every digital image needs some kind of processing to get the desired impact. I’d suggest shooting RAW. If you want to shoot jpeg then it would really depend on your taste of presenting the pictures. Saturated, muted, soft etc
@@shootprocessprint Thank you very much for your answer. Phil
Excellent images!
Beautiful shots! Were you exposure bracketing on any of them? Subscribed 👍🤗
@@lpark8 not bracketing. The lcd pretty much tells you ballpark if you are well exposed
My go to has been the Fuji GFX 50R with the 23mm. Love the colors, and the sensor. All my Banff pictures - be it portraits or landscapes - were on the GFX.
Me too
I am with the 28, mainly because the images have a nicer, more interesting perspective imho, 43 seems flat for me, just not so much dynamic in the scene, more boring looking. Ofc 28 is also much more versatile because of the crop-in possibility, thats what the 60 mp-sensor ist made for.
Cropping an image from 28mm is not a true 50mm. And the distortion is really obvious on faces. Not so much for structures.
Sure. The message here is not that you can get 50 field of view by cropping. My point is that for street, documentary, urbanscapes, events it’s better to have a wider angle of view and crop in. My earlier video on the Q3 talks about shooting portraits with 28mm
awesome...... more pls
Awesome...
While on the street 28 mm or 43 mm is a personal choice I guess. I have used your OG Q work 28 mm sumilux. Jewel of a camera and gem of a lens. But if were to shoot a lot of street portraits more than street scenes - I think 43 will be a comfortable choice. I like this video PV. Would have loved to see more pictures from the 43 mm Q
I am simply take a full frame camera with a 24-70 mm lens and set my mind free
95% of my photos are taken with a 24-70 mm zoom.
There is always a lot of hype when a new product is released. I bought my Q3 three weeks ago knowing that the Q3 43 was about to hit the market. My decision was based on my needs for the wide 28, pure and simple.
Where are y’all finding the Q3 43 for sale? I can’t find any outlet that has one in stock.
Thank you for this - very helpful, honest and detailed feedback on the eye autofocus with the latest GFX cameras, rather than excitable hype, over-promising and vagueness that you get with a lot of RUclips reviews. People skim over the eye autofocus behaviour too much but it's critical to the camera's functionality for portrait shooting, and you did a great job of explaining the situations where it does and doesn't work flawlessly. I have been wondering what version of GFX to aim towards owning one day, and I think based on information like this I probably couldn't settle for the original GFX 100 (mark 1) or other earlier options but would need this mark-2 generation (or any future releases) as a minimum. Thank you for clearing that up for me.
Excellent video! I have 28mm Q3 but wgatbi noticed is when I shoot Raw it has yellow skin tone cast vs Q3 43mm is more of Nikon Fuji color. Can you do Raw comparison video skinyone check for 43mm and 28mm?
Yes 😂
Frankly, I don’t understood this hoopla about the Q3-43 v/s Q3-28. To sum it up, the 28mm is a great EDC camera whereas the 43mm clearly is not. As you both have mentioned, the 43mm is excellent for those who’ve always shot either with 35mm or 50mm. To quote the guys on Red Dot Forum, who are rather fond of saying this in other Leica contexts, the 43mm is an AND camera and not an OR camera. It depends ….. i.e. it does not replace the Q3-28, it adds to the Q lineup
@@rajkerkar9432 it is ‘and’ for people with a lot of money 🙂. There are still a lot of people wondering this or that.
It boils down to pretty much all that you mentioned. 28 gives you a bit more freedom to different styles and compositions. 43 of course, a bit narrow and good for portraits and tight compositions. If you currently own a 28 and happy with it, just stick to it, you have all the freedom from 28 to 43 and beyond! Having said that, APO is something that you may want to consider 😊
I have both... 28mm has too much distortion... 43mm is much more natural.
@@BeanEW distortion? You mean pincushion/barrel kind of distortion? I have not observed any, at least not worth worrying over. Yes, 43 is more natural due to the field of view. The whole question is about what use the camera will be put to.
@@shootprocessprint Agree, I have the 28, not noticed any distortion whatsoever. The 43 pictures look boring for my tastes. 28 much more dynamic
Sir how is apo lens performance in q3 43
@@tusharrocksss APO is fantastic but the 28 even though a non APO is also a brilliant lens. You’re not losing anything really by going for the 28mm if that’s the focal length you prefer.
Ok sir got it ….. it’s just confusion of apo lens vs sumilux
You must be a con man. I stopped listening your BS after a minute for converting Sony to B&W. after listening another minute I couldn't take your BS any more. Vancouver is in BC, Canada where I live. Moreover, full conversion to any camera to Infrared cost less than U$300. It involves two steps. Not only to remove Bayer filter, but also to install IR filter of your choice. Not only removing bayer filter for $1200.
Please don't mislead people. Any camera's sensor can be removed to make B&W or 4 different kind of Infrared. Pentax K3iii Monochrome is the Only substitute to Leica Monochrome at one-third of the price. Pentax released it about 9 months ago.
This review like no other makes me “buy it” 🙂…seriously. But I’m wondering is it still worth to invest in it in 2024 ? 🤷🏻
Greeting sir, have you experienced any orange light issues or freeze during operation
@@tylor7978 none
I have the q3, nice camera but if I were to rebuy in the leica line one camera it would be the sl3 with 24-90 lens.
Thankyou Sir
Great camera - had mine for a year now - but I hate the brass/gold bling - I keep my camera as discrete as possible - I have the red dot taped over!!
Your video is very informative especially concerning the portraits with that cam. Thanks 🙏
One tip for FujiFilm cameras is instead of having it on the eye setting pick one eye what this does is it stops it jumping to the other one if the model is side and obviously would pick the eye that is closest to you but this is a huge difference. I have the GFX 100S ii which is essentially the same
@@nevvanclarke9225 so you're saying that the camera accomplishes eye autofocus more quickly, and more accurately/reliably, if you tell it to prioritise left or right eye (rather than not specifying which eye)? That's interesting. Of course, most of the time you would want it to pick the nearest eye, and you would want to make that decision quickly. So... If you have to tell it which eye yourself... How quickly and effortlessly can you do that? I read that the GFX has lots of buttons and that what they do is very customisable/programmable. Can you, with a single button press, switch to Left Eye Autofocus, and with a different single button press, switch over directly to Right Eye Autofocus? Because that's the kind of immediate responsiveness that would be needed, in order for this "tell it which eye to use" workaround, to the slow/flaky eye autofocus behaviour, to be truly practical and not in itself yet another stumbling block. I need to be able to react immediately to the model turning their head to pick a new pose etc, without it then focusing on the old/wrong eye just because I have to spend too much time futzing around with camera menu toggles to switch over.
@@GH-gn6vu what it does is that it stops looking for the other eye - to stop it bouncing around as much. It definitely improves the hit percentage unless your photographing models walking down our catwalk which is kind of unnatural anyway just someone standing there in a Portrait photo you should be able to lock on picking one eye or the other. I find this method works as I do Family photos and some portraits as well.
@@GH-gn6vu I know that Fujifilm are working on the autofocus. I actually spoke to someone from Fujifilm Australia my Photography reasonably well known in Australia and I have good contacts with the Australian branch of Fujifilm. One of my friends actually works for Fujifilm Australia and I've just been subtly having chats with him about the autofocus and giving him feedback and so forth I know they are working on it and the new little MX5 camera actually has better auto focus so if they can get the algorithm right in that camera they can change the algorithm of the other cameras. I have a GFX 100s II and a XT5
