Six weeks later Ernie Wise would be devastated by the death of Eric Morecambe who died in similar circumstances at a theatre in Cheltenham but not live on television.
I watch Live from her majesty's on tv with my family when this happen, ITV Broke into an ad break as tv producer knew there was something up, RIP Tommy.
Little ern as Eric used to call him . They were a brilliant double act. A must watch at Christmas. I loved the sketch where Eric was trying to play the piano and Andre Pravin (Andrew Preview) kept stopping him by telling Eric he was playing the wrong notes and i cried with laughter when Eric grabs Andre by his collar and slaps his cheeks. I laughed and Andre's orchestra players laughed as well. Just classic comedy. Totally harmless. Poor Des O'connor would be the but of Eric's jokes. Just brilliant tv.
Cooper was too much for me, overpowered by his energy, noticed a few at his funeral who where now dead, Bruce Forsyth, Ernie Wise, Windsor Davies and some others.
paul daniels, windsor davies, the chap/bookie from 'carry on at your convenience' max bygraves, Bernie winters, Brucie, 9 seconds in Morecambe and Wise writer, Russ abbot, Tarbie, Ted rogers, Ernie wise of course and many more legends. tommy is up there with the funniest ever comedians.
TC Was, the only comedian who I ever knew, that could walk on stage, say nothing and we would all roar with laughter. One of the funniest men of all time.
Lots of great british comedians seemed to die quite young in the day. I wonder if the stress of having and expecting to be funny before a live audience put to much stess on the heart.
Heavy smoking, heavy drinking, rubbish fatty foods in rubbish b+b's, late nights, hectic stressful touring schedules where you could be away from home for weeks at a time all contribute to not being around to get your pension. That was the life of a comedian in those days.
Remember the night well watching it with my mum and dad I was young lad at the time seeing him falling backwards on stage I thought nothing of it tommy being tommy but my mum and dad saying to each other something not right here
He was just a very funny guy,so sad he collapsed on stage and passed away in hospital,I remember watching the royal variety performance Rip Tommy miss your comedy terribly.
I remember Tommy Cooper on BBC from Canada broadcasting till Cable came and all is lost. Until recently TikTok showed Tommy Cooper I was like oh my gosh I do remember him. I quickly follow up Goggle about him, I am kinda saddened I never knew he passed away 1984 the same year my Dad had gone. Raise Detroit and I love BBC channel 9
Nice bit of rare footage thanks for sharing Ernie had another setback a month later with the death of his partner Eric Morecambe. Two sad loses of great British comedians in the space of 5 weeks.
One of a kind.👍
His gravesite is a shambles in 2023. Covered in weeds.
Looking back on this and noticing that a third of those celebrities attending Tommy Coopers funeral are deceased themselves now.. 💐💔 😢

A backstage worker said T C walked past her, only for her to learn that Tommy Was dead ahead of her on stage.
Poor Ernie, never got the recognition he deserved. Always overshadowed by the ghost of Eric. They were equally talented should be remembered as such.
Nice bit of rare footage thanks for sharing Ernie had another setback a month later with the death of his partner Eric Morecambe. Two sad loses of great British comedians in the space of 5 weeks.
Unfortunately this footage ended up with getty images, so now we all have to watch the centered text logo of this awful company.
