Lovie, the more we talk about this, the less shame there is in this game, the more folks realize they were tricked. They are not deficient in anything. If they were, the narc would not have targeted you. They need people who are: - upwardly mobile - generous - supportive - considerate - friendly - well liked - honest - respected - capable - skilled - problem solvers - flexibility - creative - intelligent These are the same traits that attract good people too. It's just these are the traits the narcs wish they had so they try to exchange the negative aspects of their personality (projection) for the positives in yours. They try to usurp your authority over yourself and steal it for themselves to assuage their insecurities and like any other schoolyard bully make themselves feel big by making you feel small. They are jealous of what makes you special and resentful of you for having it if they don't or can't, so they aim to control it by controlling you. They can't sponge 🧽 off a deadbeat, after all or another narc for long. They need somebody who wants - and can provide a good life for themselves. They need to resources because they can't take responsibility for themselves - or won't. They want your like glitz by association. Your sparkle to rub off on them so they can get the wealth of relationship you are capable of with others. That's why they are so protective and isolating. They don't want you sharing it with of others. They feel entitled to it like it's theirs to own. Like you are. People need love, understanding, care, respect, support... And reality. Without that essential piece, all you have is a film flam fantasy. Instead of asking "what do you want someday" as "how'd you get closer to earning or creating that today?" It can be a helpful reminder that each of our lives could depend on ourselves or our proverbial maker - instead of others, emotionally, physically, intellectually, spiritually, and socially. We can build support structures, teams of friends and loved ones to help get us across those finish lines, and after all, that's the fun!

You are not stupid. To meet and adore the full expressions of you as you grow, change, and develop is the goal of anybody who loves you. People that like you want the best for you. Even people who hare you - your enemies want the best for you so you busy yourself with that and bother them less. But those who love you are not willing to accept anything less than the best for you. They will fight even you for it. For you to master your best. They will back off if they can't be it. I pray you find this sort of love if you haven't already. This type of partnership and companionship. That feels too proud of who you are and how you meet your daily challenges to isolate you from others who could help sustain and maintain you. I'm sorry this was so scary and so relieved you made it out. Praying for him, too, that he finds the security he needs from a greater source perhaps than humanity.

Hey Beautiful! Thank you for this valuable and important next step. If more survivors could come forward comfortably and securely to talk about the thing that terrifies victims even more than staying with an abuser: leaving them can be super scary and there are very valid reasons for that. If more folks show life after is manageable at least if not better, easier or smoother, then I think it could encourage others who might want or need to get out from under the thumb of controlling abuse. Thank you so much for sharing your courage, strength, wisdom, and experience. To get out to get away is an aspirational goal as worthy as any other - to heal the abusive relationships we might almost be playing out against ourselves - sometimes can be the most empowering thing some people stuck in this need to make their lives different than emotionally dependent on that personality type. Thank you on behalf of too many friends and sisters of every persuasion. Thank you for showing the after can be as positive as leaving was powerful. So sorry 💔 you went through this. No one deserves that. 😔 😭 But grateful for your share. And that you strengthened yourself and probably your support system by living through it. Keep loving yourself as much if not more than we love relationships. Because those should be about relating and that depends on us staying responsible for our own health: physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, intellectually - you should be about to sustain and maintain you and at vulnerable moments we can't, then mean on those closest to us to lift us up, NOT tear us down. Look at you, getting what you need now from yourself! Phew! So happy you are with us. And you are making it! Good on you, fellow human. Someone who doesn't have experience in this can't imagine, how much damage a narcissist can do in your head. It's so crazy when they twist reality and you start to question yourself, because they're extremely convincing. They believe their lies so I can't even blame flying monkeys, because their mask is perfect and they would do everything, they would use emotions as weapon to get what they want: sympathy. My dad is a covert narcissist, everybody sees him as a kind, warm hearted man, when nothing is further from reality. He has no empathy at all and his rage is extreme, if you hurt his ego. And he told everyone, all his friends and even other parts of the family believed him, that I'm crazy and I'm doing those things with him, that actually he did to me. It's mind blowing how far they can go to protect their ego...

It's far better to wander the wilderness 🌲 🌲 then to share a house 🏠 with a contentious woman ♀️👠♀️ it's for better to have a dry morsel in peace than a steak in a house of strife 😡 it's far better to be alone than to be in Bad company. I lived exactly the same way my ex treated and resulted in the same exact relationship I basically under siege I lost myself completely…. 150 a month he gave me living in my house… Which he had more financial stability savings I just spent and helped people always wanted to enjoy life.. I became drained emotionally financially I was wearing armour that I couldn’t carry around any longer it was too heavy.. I let myself be brought to the ground… I had a great friend and thank you to her and her family.. I did reach out.. Enough was enough.. I’m 55 now for the past 5years my whole personality changed… I disliked myself immensely … He wanted everyone to hate me he wanted me that down and out.. Why I don’t know as he was never going to help.. Even a mop or blanket his reply would be why should he buy anything.. It spoke volumes he had no respect for me or my home Or my grandkids Would not even get them one bottle of water. I’m wrong I can’t argue reason with him He lied about a photo, he said I was seeing things.. Me to I was apologising for everything It was sick Exactly what u said I’m in tears I lost so much of my self worth

I compare it to being a frog in a pot at first it’s all good no reason to suspect anything and then suddenly it gets hot and you can’t get out ! It literally feels like your in a trap

I have all the same things - ptsd, trauma, fear of going to places where there are a lot of people, for example I go to stores only when there is very little people (late in the evening or in the night - I even started working in the night), drive my car only when there is small traffic and I have to sit in my car for about 40 minutes before I even start driving. I never had problems with this, I'm a very good driver, I have 4 cars and after the abuse which lasted for more than 15 years I stopped driving my cars, I preferred to walk... And I'm a man. My cars after all this time are almost vintage cars. And she tried to make me sell them. She never broke me, I never sold anything. She tried to make me quit everything, my job, later my business, all my hobbies - cars, movies, collecting things, everything... They want to strip you of everything, ERASE you. You can't let them do that, they didn't succeed in anything. I'm saying they, because right after she broke up with me (and went to destroy somebody elses life), because she couldn't break me, after 10 years of this struggle she was immediately replaced by another narcissist - an old friend from high school who started stalking me. After I broke up with her I was watching a football game with this old friend and he installed spyware - hacked my phone when I went to another room and he was stalking me for 8 years, because he hacked my phone that allowed him to log on to my emails, facebook etc. So you have to be very watchful. Block them, change all your passwords. Protect your money. Change your door locks. And what is funny this friend from school who was stalking me - he was in coalition with my ex and they where tring to rob me - they knew I had some money at home. They didn't succeed, but my life was hell for many years. You have to get through it. Don't let them break you, or make you quit anything! Protect your money and belongings. And that's not the end... After I broke up with her and this friend started stalking me, I opened my own business (internet shop). They were so furious that I didn't quit and they didn't succeed in breaking me that they tried really hard to destroy my business. They were calling the company where my internet shop was (were the servers with all the data were etc.) and when they called them they said they said they were me - probably that stalking friend was the one on the phone and they said I will be quitting the internet shop and they told them to erase everything etc. Later when I called the company where my internet shop was at the time I found out about all of this. I almost lost my internet shop, because of them. Thankfully I didn't lose it, but it was years of struggle, even after the break up, because this 'friend' who was stalking me and my ex were in collusion. They just couldn't undestand that I'm not quitting, and that they didn't succeed in breaking me. So you have to completely block them, protect everything, your money and belongings. And don't let them break you or erase you!!! You have to be very strong and very watchful. But still, the trauma and ptsd stay for a long time.

I was love bombed at 13 by my husband who was 21, the mind games destroyed who I was. I have no friends .I'm now in trauma therapy. It's slow going. But trying to get out when he wanted me home taking care of him. 47 yrs married 49 together. The only thing I have really is my gardens and my cat. My husband will track people down I even mention at a grocery store if I mentioned they were so nice. Come back and tell me their name a week later. My husband played my kids to .I am in constant fear of being confronted in public about how poor larry works x y z but that's his choice he works for supply not me telling him to. In fact a lot of our fights are him never making time to do family. Good luck I fear I'm stuck today I turn 62. There's not much for u out there at that age.
