Yeah there are 100% easier ways to get around his DM but this is just the one I kind of figured out even though it's probably not super worth it execution wise. I've also figured out a few new things with this fight since uploading this video, like using a light/dark form reprisal and the insane i-frames to punish at the end of the DM. I might record a better version of this and upload again later, at least featuring the reprisal DM punish

I think it's a bit more complicated than that. If you read my response to sirLamperouge, I kinda listed three reasons off the top of my head that Melee's meta is getting stale: - Hbox's current dominance because of his skill at the game - The game itself, where Fox is the only character Puff loses convincingly to, so top players switch off their main to Fox for the next reason - The nature of competition, which is to win as soon as possible instead of "trying" something a few times and losing because of it after getting to Hbox (which is hard enough) I think it's mainly that, and there could be more as well. But yes, if other people were good enough to come close to beating him with other characters I think things would be a lot more entertaining. Blame the game for making Jigglypuff's only real losing matchup Fox though.

Although I would disagree that fox is jigglypuff's only losing matchup (Hbox just makes it seem that way because he's so dominant), I can understand where you are coming from with your reasons for why the game is getting stale. Although I personally disagree with the notion that melee is starting to become stale (I find it extremely satisfying to watch an inferior character somehow consistently win a losing matchup), I agree that my comment is not necessarily a completely accurate representation of why melee could be viewed as getting stale. I just think people are too quick to blame Hbox for the state of the meta instead of blaming themselves and other players for not being the change they want to see. After all, I presume we can agree that Hbox shouldn't throw games away in an effort to make melee "interesting" again, so why do we continue to say he's killing melee just because some of us don't like his character? Push the criticism on others to get better and try different strategies as you mentioned instead of blaming Hbox.

Right. It would be awesome if people figured it out with other characters and really gave Hbox a hard time in other matchups. It'd feel more satisfying to watch for sure. (Well, except for maybe Puff-Icies, but even that can be interesting due to how rarely we see that matchup) And yeah. The issue with the criticism is that I feel as if people don't really try to understand/capture the whole picture when it comes to WHY melee could be becoming stale. Right. I think that asking "who's killing melee" isn't really the right way to approach it. I think that makes the situation more black and white than it is. It's a multitude of factors really, and I don't like the term "killing melee." It's more of a question of "what's causing the Melee meta to stagnate?" and it's a variety of factors: - Hbox's current dominance because of his skill at the game - The game itself, where Fox is the only character Puff loses convincingly to, so top players switch off their main to Fox for the next reason - The nature of competition, which is to win as soon as possible instead of "trying" something a few times and losing because of it after getting to Hbox (which is hard enough) Yes, as a spectator/sports/esports fan I would love to see people approach the immovable object that is Hungrybox in different ways, rather than with the same character. But as a competitor it makes less sense to do that when Fox is more of a "quick fix" in a way. And about your first point, like I said in the video people would love to see Hbox's puff more I think if he was matched up against characters which required him to use Puff's tools in a different way more often. Against players that make him work for what he gets. Right now we don't really have that. People who could upset Hbox with Marth or Falco or Falcon (with a few exceptions) either don't get to him in bracket, or aren't good enough to beat him with those characters. But maybe their Fox is, which loops back to what I was mentioning before.

Melee's metagame is not stale at all. People are having to learn how to beat a new character instead of only playing "top tiers". I love watching Hbox. I think his playstyle is very creative, and his punish game is truly inspiring. Hbox is the only REALLY good puff out there, while there are dozens of cheesy fox, marth, and shiek mains who just spam the most overpowered moves over and over again without any real passion for the game. Hbox respects the game of Melee in full and you can see it in his playstyle. Its delusional to complain about puff, when it is Hbox's pure talent that lets him repeatedly emerge victorious from the worst matchups in the game. We should admire Hbox for being true to himself, even in the face of all the negativity.

I pretty much agree with what you're saying. It's nice to have it there, yeah. And yeah the TV broadcasting and Nintendo sponsorship definitely helped with getting S4 the Sunday slot, which is a good point. I mainly say disrespected since things like the Hbox issue aren't getting treated seriously by the staff.
