Fourth Wing got me out an 8 month reading slump! Let's talk about it
I am so glad I am not alone in finding Emily Wilde just aggressively fine hahah. I stubbornly read book 2 as well and it was just... not it 🤣 Anyway, I am going to try Look Closer, because now I am morbidly curious lol. Also love to hear that you enjoyed Lucy Undying so much, I got the ARC but have been procrastinating because of the mixed reviews, but I like everything you said here! Do you think it's best to have read the original Dracula beforehand? My faves of August were Asunder by Kerstin Hall (new no. 1 fave of the year), Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle and Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. Love that 5-star energy!! 🤩🤩
I have been eying Bury Your Gays, might have to check it out now! But honestly I have never actually read Dracula the classic, but once I started really liking Lucy Undying, I did some research into who Lucy was in the original. Which I enjoyed knowing the contrast in the character…honestly this did, make me curious to read it.. in short, I don’t think you need to read it to enjoy this, but I guess now I want to read it. So I guess that’s good 😊
@@Ingridreadsalot would recommend the audio for Bury Your Gays btw, it is brilliantly produced!! and that is cool to hear about Dracula, I don't feel like reading it beforehand so maybe I will just go into Lucy Undying blind and see if it will also make me want to go back to the original afterwards hahah
This reminds me that I need to try Emily Wilde...I want to love it so I have an excuse to get the B and N edition because I got the boring normal edition....lolol I also need to try Spark of the Everflame...I have it but keep forgetting about it. Dracula is my favorite classic so I am intrigued by Lucy Undying. Yaaaaaasssss the Spellshop is so good
👀 I’m curious to see what you think about Lucy Undying. But yes read spark of the everflame I think we’ll have a fun time ❤️
💖
yeeeesss abby jimenez is so good!! I enjoyed part of your world, loved yours truly, and adored just for the summer, hope the same will be true for you! and I feel you on ali hazelwood's romances, they just feel so... uninspired? loved this vlog style! 🥰🥰
I hope so too! Will deff be checking them out! Me and contemporary Ali have officially broken up 🤣
YAAAAAS THE SPELLSHOP IS SO GOOD. I still need to try Emily Wilde I hope I like it more than you did lolol (that edition is so cute)
❤️❤️
Girl I feeeeel you on Emily Wilde, that was just so aggressively fine 🤣 Hope Lucy Undying holds up the entire way through, I also have an ARC and need to get onto it asap.. the premise sounds so good! And enjoy Ninth Rain, hopefully it lives up to Elle's hype for you haha. Happy reading 🥰
Omg so many people love it, I felt like the odd man out, I’m glad I’m not the only one ❤️
Why yes, consider me absolutely sold on The Dollmakrers and Annie Bot!! And you are getting me into a big romance mood here, which I am not mad about 🤩
I hope you love them!!! ❤️
😊 love this thank you, your nice to listen to...😊
Thanks for being here ❤️
Not you wanting the woman to make the bad man grovel in dark romances ☠ also girl we need the final two books of a song of ice and fire not Fire and Blood 2... lmao
okay we can call it even and say we need both those books! ☺️
A month where we get a new Kingfisher is immediately a good month!! Also, I have read the ARC of Long Live Evil and had a blast. It leans a bit younger in tone sometimes because of the wacky humour, but for me it was just such a fun time (and it really packs an emotional punch as well!). Hope these all live up to your expectations 🤩
Oh nice I’m glad you enjoyed it… I read some not so stellar reviews and was worried it wouldn’t be good ❤️❤️
I don’t know how you immediately jumped straight back in to all of SJM but love that’s it’s working so well for you again
It deff is one of my faves, nostalgia gets me hard 😂
Glad to hear you are coming out of the slump again!! I have been seeing that memoir about being a sociopath floating around, sounds like I need to bump it up the priority list! And I feel you on Heir of Fire, that is really where things get so so so good. Though I think book 5 might be my true favourite? Idk, might have to do a reread as well lol 👀 My favourite reads of 2024 so far are Hell for Hire by Rachel Aaron and A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams, can't recommend them highly enough! 🤩🤩
Try it!! it's so good... I'll have to check those out! I've seen people talk about Tia Williams but I've never read any.
Hello Ingrid. The only problem with watching other RUclipsrs channels is that it only increases the tbr. So many books and so little time! Happy reading to you.
Thank you! To you also!
Ooooh Defiant was good? I need to get to it already I have it and really enjoyed Cytonic
Read itttt
Oooh this was definitely a fun way to reflect on the first quarter!! I really need to get to Never Lie. And gosh, you are making me want to reread Nettle & Bone, I miss bone dog!! Also, I am glad I listened to that spoilery rant of None of This is True, because yeaaah no thanks I am not interested in that messiness lol. Hope you find some new faves in the upcoming quarter!! 🥰🥰
You should! Never Lie was so good!
T Kingfisher never disappoints! Love her books too! ❤
So good!
Oooh I recently picked up Emily Wilde's too! Hope it's good. Speaking of House in the Cerulean Sea I need to reread it soon to get ready for the sequel coming soon. Godkiller is a lot of fun, I think you will have a fun time with it.
I can’t waitttttttt for the sequel! Literally dying to read it
@@Ingridreadsalot I need to refresh myself on the cuteness to get ready. The sequel better be good and not feel tacked on for no reason or I shall riot lol
@RodgersReads I’ll riot with you ✊
What about Vesperus being described as Maeve?
Sooo.. after I saw your comment, I went on a crazy deep dive, and holy crap there are so many theories and predictions! I hadn't even noticed the Vesperus/Maeve comparisons!! thanks for pointing it out!
I am curious about the Veronica Roth fantasy book too. It’s the only one I recognize on this list 🤣🤣
I deff want to try it. Divergent was one of my faves.
@@Ingridreadsalot I read Chosen Ones when it came out & liked it a fair amount but didn't love it... and I don't know if she's continuing the series or not lol
@JashanaC I really thought I had replied 🥴 but I have been curious about chosen ones bc I’ve heard some good things.. isn’t it people with superpowers?? Or am I making this up
@@Ingridreadsalot it is indeed!
Yay for this book being fun! I was expecting trash and was pleasantly surprised. The whole parasite antidote still makes 0 scientific sense to me but sure whatever lolol
hahaha science has no place in SJM world good sir
@@Ingridreadsalot I still don’t understand the cure for the parasites but I just have to let it exist. 💀🤣
@RodgersReads I don’t either 🤣 we’re just gonna let it exist
Oooh how exciting, lots of titles that I hadn't heard of before!! And yes, these books are really winning the cover game 🤩 I am personally looking forward to Mushroom Blues by Adrian Gibson, The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo, Ghost Station by SA Barnes, Truly Madly Deeply by Alexandria Bellefleur, Evocation by ST Gibson, and How To Become a Dark Lord and Die Trying by Django Wexler. Fingers crossed these all live up to our expectations!!
I love the title of the last book, very cheeky😂 will have to check it out!
Heeeck yes, I love that we both had such a fun experience with this finale. I totally agree that it was a huge step up from book 2, even though it still had its flaws. While I like how this one ended, I am excited to keep reading in this world, because I just really enjoy the set-up with all the different types of creatures. So long as we are not shifting perspectives to Tharion, I will be good, lol. Loved this review!! 🥰
Ohhh Tharion.. just sooooo boring 🥱
love a rich people problems book!! new sub, hope your congestion clears up soon!
I feel totally fine now 🩵 thank youuu
Yay HOFAS!!!! Addie sounds like a snoozefest. No thanks lol
I was not impressed 🙃
Aaah yes, wasn't HoFaS such a step-up?! I am glad you had a blast with it, looking forward to the dedicated review. And heck yes, Bride was just such a hoot, I devoured that one!! Also, while I personally enjoyed Addie LaRue more than you seem to have, I also 100% agree with all your critiques here. I enjoy that book less and less the longer I think about it lol. Hope March treats you better overall ;))) My standouts in February were Seven Days in June & A Love Song for Ricki Wilde, both by Tia Williams, HoFaS, and Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez. Big into the romance vibes, and I am embracing it! 🥰🥰
lots of romance this month!! but yes I this think HOFAS was deff a step up.. I am curious about part of your world, everyone looooves that book!
@@Ingridreadsalot and for good reason!! I already devoured book 2 as well and can't recommend this romance series highly enough!!
Love this diverse list!! Look, with House of Flame and Shadow and Iron Flame... I honestly don't get the hate so much lol. If you go in expecting ridiculously fun braincandy, you'll have a blast (at least I did). And CC3 is def a huuuuge step up from CC2, the crossovers were handled quite well imo 🤩 I also can't wait to check out Emily Wilde's and Bride. And can confirm that Empire of the Vampire, Ninth Rain, Ship of Destiny and A Gathering of Shadows are all super great reads. Hope these live up to your expectations!! 🥰
Omg such a step up! I really enjoyed it! But I’m so glad you liked all those other books gives me hope 😁
I read Leviathan Wakes in January and I loved it - I hope you enjoy!
Ohh that makes me excited! I feel like most people don’t love it 😂
@@Ingridreadsalot I was definitely invested and ready to continue the series (and eventually watch the show!)
I will be so curious what you think of Wheel of Time, I have my predictions lol. I do think you will like the Winnowing Flame Trilogy though (Ninth Rain). I want to try Emily Wilde's too one of these days! Oh god not Iron Flame......lmao I'm currently reading Amina and it is quite fun. Still waiting for the mythological beasts but Jashana tells me there will be lots. Yay Words of Radiance, that's coming up next for my readalong to be discussed in May. Jay from Captured in Words has an amazing recap for Way of Kings. Yaaaaas EotV!!!! Book 2 comes out in March. Oh god Ship of Destiny....xD I have THOUGHTS about that one.
Did you read it??? Or is the pirate thing that you didn’t even read it?
I kinda want to try Leviathan Wakes also -- I did a thing where I read the first chapter & last chapter and I did that one and actually was like "Wait.... maybe I'm intrigued???"
Ooo let's buddy read! I need support 😜
Oooh yay Nettle and Bone. I still need to read Evershore and Defiant, oops lol
Get on ittt 😬
@@Ingridreadsalot I own them both. Although my copy of skyward flight…is in a box somewhere in storage which doesn’t help 🤣
I really wish I had loved Nettle & Bone more -- it was a "perfectly fine" one for me. Boo hiss! lol
I thought it was so beautiful, how can you not absolutely love bonedog?? 😁
@@Ingridreadsalot haha Idk! He was cute & I liked him but overall I just felt really "meh" about the plot
@@JashanaC 😂thats alright theyre not all going to be amazing
I love the mystery mood just taking over, hahah. I am def checking out Never Lie now, I had no idea where to start with her works so thanks for the rec ;))) And you're actually getting me excited to get back into the Skyward series again, I have been putting that off lol. Hope February treats you well 🥰
Thank you!! Same to you ♥ omg if you read never lie let me know what you think of it!! I am curious.. but yes, I loved the skyward conclusion, almost cried 🥴
@@Ingridreadsalot will keep you updated for sure!! and I need a book that gives me those emotions again, so skyward is bumping up the priority list 🥰
yaaay welcome back ingrid!!! 🎉 i am begging the romantasy authors to please put more thought into their worldbuilding rather than just relying on the spicy scenes to save their story 😭 glad to hear that defiant stuck the landing!!! i still need to read it but need to finish cytonic first NETTLE AND BONE 💗💗💗
Thank youuu!! Yes but also if it’s called romantasy give me some romance 😂😂 defiant had a good ending, usually endings don’t always work for me, can’t wait for the new spinoff
Girl don't justify yourself for not liking Emily St. John....you felt how you felt lol. Oh yeah...ACOTAR. Maybe we can do book 2 next month? 🤔🤔
🥹🥹 my favorite
🦄
Ooooh yes, the 80s vibes in My Best Friend's Exorcism are just chef's kiss!! 🤌And I think you will enjoy Nettle & Bone, but you should def read What Moves the Dead as well, it's PERFECT for spooky season!! Hope October will be a better reading month than September was ;) Happy reading!! 🥰
They both sound good! I’m really liking my best friend’s exorcism! I’m reading now. I hope I love both of them! Since they’re already on my shelf 🤣
I had a lot of fun with the adaptation of My Best Friend's Exorcism I'm sure the book is also fun. And you will probably really like Nettle and Bone. Good luck with this TBR friend!! Yaaaas Way of Kings. I think the live show is in February so depending on how long you take to read it you'd be welcome to hop in with us because we are doing Stormlight books every three months I believe going into the release of Stormlight 5 next November.
Oh yayy sounds fun! I had no idea my best friends exorcism had a adaption!! Wtf where have I been??
@@Ingridreadsalot hahaha yeah I believe the adaptation is on Prime Video.
Let's hear the gramophone beneath our ribs; our brainstem needle’s on the record’s back. Somebody’s bound to cherish how it skips, the way it weebles onward past each scratch. A soulmate’s call will seem to sing along. Thy ear was meant to be against their chest, to slowly fall asleep within their arms. Thy name an opera in a single breath. Who noticed Saturn breaking character? She tilts her skirt to try and spy on us. With rings as flat as vinyl albums turn, she looks into the audience too much. As lovers shelter, laughing in ballet, the lonely throw their roses on the stage.
I definitely chose to view The Last Word as a bit of a campy satire type of story bc otherwise I was not going to be on board for it, lol. I think No Exit was way stronger! Very exciting to hear about Under the Influence though, I had saved that on Scribd without knowing what it was about but now I really want to get to it. Sounds juicy and messy and I am all here for that hahah 😛 Hope you had a great trip to Italy! Take all the time you need to get back into the swing of things ;)
Okay I’m glad I wasn’t the only one! I have no exit, so I still have to try that it, hopefully it’s more my taste lol. But yess read under the influence, it’s very messy and I loved it 😂😂
@@Ingridreadsalothahah yeeesss, give me all the messy!! and hope you enjoy no exit when you pick it up 🤞
I remember being so effing annoyed with the ending of The Bone Witch, but I can't recall why... lol
welp, now I'm glad I'm not keeping it 😂
The Other Boleyn Girl is not about Anne but her sister and is quite a good read I did enjoy it anyway
Well, that makes sense 😂 well now you’re making me think twice about unhauling
🐣
Bright Young Women sounds interesting if it is focussed on the victims. Reminds me of The Five by Hallie Rubenhold which tells the stories of the victims of Jack the Ripper rather than glorifying the murderer which a lot of true crime seems to do
I’ve heard of that book! It does sound super interesting, hope it lives up to the hype 🤞🏼
Im so excited for all of these omg! Especially black sheep and bright young women!!! 🙌💕💕💯
Yay I am excited for Defiant too, I am really curious to see how that series concludes.
Thank you! I’m looking forward to read some of those ☀️
I would leave the book pictures up longer
My little hamster passed away tonight. I'm absolutely devastated. Book unhauls are always something I turn to when I'm feeling down. Great video
I am soo sorry about your hamster.. I'm glad the video helped distract you, if only for a little.. hope your heart feels better soon ❤
I am curious about for the wolf because I read The Foxglove King recently by that author and quite liked it. I am curious about the Keeper of Night because the premise sounds cool but I have heard literally nothing about it lol
I am curious about foxglove king!! but for the wolf I just gave up on lol
@@Ingridreadsalot fair enough. The necromancy/creepy vibes of foxglove are way more up your alley than a random fairy tale retelling
@RodgersReads yeh seriously I need to pick books that I 100% know I’m gonna enjoy, lately I’ve been reading all the mehhhh books
@@Ingridreadsalot boooo meh books are the worst 🙈
Great video! My wife and I had to unhaul loads of books when we moved house two years ago. I was very sad as I love to collect books. I love Ray Bradbury but Farenheit 451 is definitely not his best effort. We actually need more shelf space for all the books we have now.
the bane of the book collector, never enough space 🤣
So true!😂@@Ingridreadsalot
