David Kline
Добавлен 3 апр 2015
Hi! My name is David Kline and I hail from San Antonio, TX. Been playing trombone for over 40 years. I first fell in love with big band jazz in 7th grade when I watched the stage band play "Hill Street Blues". It was arranged to be a jazz tune. My trombone idols in jazz are Bill Watrous, Urbie Green and Carl Fontana to name a few. I love the silky sound of a trombone so I try to emulate that sound rather than a harsher tone. Just a personal preference. I currently play with a couple of big bands here in San Antonio and also with a small group. Thanks for stopping by and please share your musical experiences also. I'd love to hear them.
Stars Fell On Alabama - Trombone
The backing track is from Eduan Loftus Steenkamp channel. This is a beautiful tune played by Urbie Green off his 21 Trombones album. I'm just playing the head on this one.

Fly Me To The Moon - Trombone Improvisation

This is an oldie but goodie. Fly Me to the Moon is a classic. Here's some info about the song when Frank Sinatra sang it... His 1964 version of the song, arranged by Quincy Jones, became closely associated with NASA's Apollo Space program. The song was played on the Apollo 10 mission and was the first music ever played on the moon when Buzz Aldrin played it on a portable cassette player after s...

Very nice - Urbie is smiling!
Hallo David ,danke für das wunderschöne Solo und Musikstück! 😊❤
Hervorragend gespielt David ! Danke für das schöne Video !😊❤
Lieber David das hast du hervorragend gespielt !😊❤
Bill Watrous at his best !
Ficou muito bom... 😍😍
2 women at the time ! Wow
Beautiful arrangement, amazing band and Bill's solo is (as always) amazing!
so clean 🧼
What album is he talking about at the end??
Reflections. 1987, Soundwings Records
Lieber. David danke dir für deine hervorragende Videos !Dein Posaunenspiel ist ausgezeichnet , schöner ,weicher Ton !😊❤
One of the best trombone solo improvisations ive ever heard
Nice..and beautiful Connstellation trombone
A very Basie like piano solo there. Well done!
Damn - a killer band and Mr Tyler, the Flugal horn soloist, is the real star of the show! I attended North Texas in the ‘80s and feel this KU band sounds as good as many of the NTSU lab bands of the era, and they all sounded amazing!
What is your mic set up?
iPhone. Probably could use a real mic to make it sound better but I would have to use an editor to line up the audio with the video which I really don't want to do.
At the height of his powers.
Reminds me of Urbie Green.
Great channel that you put together! I’m a trumpet player who previously spent many years playing bone. Miss those days. What I find frustrating when listening to young bone players is a lack of lyricism in their playing. Sounds great man!
Thank you! Yes lyricism is tough to come by for sure. I appreciate the comments!
I think it’s a cool arrangement. Of course we know it as a ballad, but it’s interesting to hear it as an up tempo modern chart. I was wondering what became of Michael Ray Tyler who seems so talented at this young age and saw that he passed away in 2023.
Did he really? Thats a shame. I also learned he led his own big band
@@dgoldfar Mike was a brilliant player and writer. He lived and worked in Las Vegas for many years after leaving college. We lost him much too soon.
Gee the audio was great for '88 transfer from vhs, they look like babies but are blowing with the best of them. I think the flugel is terrific, very Freddie, even the manor he was playing it. The energy well what can I say.
Nice tasty solo!
nice performance!
Sweeeeeet!! Great David. Love those Conn Trombones. What model do you play? As beginners, we started out on the “ Director “, then progressed to the 6-H and others.
Thanks! This one is a 48H Constellation, vintage. It plays very well!
Bravo!!👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌
What’s the personnel of this band? They sound fantastic.
Bill was a total genius.R.I.P. Bill.
Very nice!
Great playing but better suited to the trumpet vs. flugel.
nigga had the same haircut for 30 years plus
Great playing, great band, BUT sorry don't like the treatment of what is a ballad.Just my opinion. Too busy too fast too frantic.
The correct title of this song is OVER THE RAINBOW.
What an experience! Thanks for sharing!
Great band, cool arrangement. I think playing the flugelhorn horn like that is illegal in some states! What a great player!
Qualidade Musical.
This is amazingly beautiful, I’m so glad this was posted, and cool to see the comments of those personally involved! Holds up across the pond 🇬🇧🫡
The George Benson of trombone players.
dumb comment
@@247hdjazz ??
To all the band members: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
I wished Watrous had done more whistling for other compositions! That was great. His playing of course leaves you speachless. Great sounding band btw.
Watrous was pretty much the Jaco Pastorius of the Trombone. He was just this genius, over there, somewhere, all by himself. A total original.
I will disagree. Ive never heard a Watrous composition at least not one that stuck with me, while I have Jaco charts in my head daily.
@@drewrushlow1820 I was referring to his playing.
@@drewrushlow1820A purely subjective opinion!
Ajn- totally agree!
Then what was Frank Rosolino?
Bill Watrous - A once in a generation player. Kansas University Jazz Band - Outstanding
Oh my! I was in the audience at this performance!
🌈🌈🌈
Absolutely incredible!
very nice. what does "KU" mean?
It's the University of Kansas Jazz Ensemble.
Yes
The multi-phonics at the end were nuts
Amazing by Bill and this great band
Bill knew this wasn’t a kids band. He brought it. I never heard him play with that kind of energy and abandon. Respect.
Too many notes
Have you heard "The Manhattan Wildelife Refuge"?
