In the latest Oxventure campaign, Wyrdwood, it feels like this was the situation for the world until the magic suddenly went weird. It reminds me of how many science fiction worlds are depicted, in my opinion the two genres have many similarities that can cross over in fun ways like this! Great ideas!

I’m no DM, and only just became a player recently, but I watched several DnD campaigns before starting and always wondered in the background, “why aren’t people using ‘Lightning Spear’ or whatever instead of just fighting with a sword?” Grandma can cast ‘Gravity Hurricane’ and now she runs the town. Like it would COMPLETELY change everything about, well, everything. You’d have to buy your kid the best ‘read faster’ potion for school. It’s just so fundamentally different. If you can create fire wherever then that changes SO much of industry. People would ‘create water’ up high to water crops or provide water to a municipality or fight fires. I remembered like halfway through the video that my DM had decided that magic was going to be relatively rare in our world. RIP. Good thing my character isn’t a magic user, LOL.

Love the ideas and the art! Unsolicited advice, but if I was you I would tease some of the final art in the thumbnails! Based on the stylized avatar I didn't expect the pieces to be in such a different style and so detailed, I would flex that personally.

I like to give my characters quirks in the form of dementias, phobias, manias, and disorders. And give them a few catch phrases. Yes, giving your character goals is great.

Honestly your point at the end about making mistakes resonated so much with me. When i first got into TTRPGs, I thought I had to know everything/bs familiar with roleplay. But i reslly learned best when confused or making mistakes. This was a great fins on my feed especially as someon who's been GMing for a bit. (Good luck on the art piece for your world btw!)

I think you're confusing roleplaying with theatrical improv. To roleplay, seriously think about who your character is, what their place is in the world, what their motivations are, and what they would do in the situation they're in. Then, say that your character does that thing. That's it. Of course, you can add the theatrics in if that's the kind of table you're at. But it's extra. Don't feel pressured to do so.
