Spinal floss with backbend
The exercise shown above is inspired by yoga, aiming to identify and strengthen weaknesses in the lower back through a greater range of motion.
Many believe that combining strength and flexibility is unattainable. However, the truth is that most fitness enthusiasts focus on just one aspect of fitness. Strength, stability, power, mobility, conditioning, and balance are all crucial for a long and fulfilling life. You can excel in one area or strive for balance in all.
The real question is, which path will you choose? There is no single right path-choose the one that aligns with the life you desire.

I used to preach against this, I also would not have a beginner start with a squat variation like this. But it can be an incredible exercise for range of motion and stability, especially through the quads. It is also very important to ensure no shooting knee pain occurs during this movement. I would begin with a knee over toe lunge like in the video linked below before ever attempting Sissy Squat. ruclips.net/video/o1I95YBwFts/видео.html

Since there's no resistance curve to the twist I'm curious what the purpose of that part of the movement is, what do you get out of this lift that you wouldn't out of a static hold - just being in different positions?? Never tried anything like this but interesting lift

The 90-degree angle is working to enhance joint alignment, that is also the position where we find our peak power output capacity. For more information on 90-degree joint angle usage check out Dr. Joel Seedman, he has a lot of great content on IG: dr.joelseedman_ahp. When it comes to the bands, it forces the body to generate an increasing amount of force as you press your arms to full extension. Now, I do not always utilize 90-degree ranges of motion, as I feel full range of motion is great for mobility and hypertrophy. However, this exercise is placed within an alignment phase, in a power week, meaning, the focus is to generate power while simultaneously promoting joint health. That is also the purpose for the use of the smith machine as well, by lowering the stability required with the use of a machine, we can better control our joint alignment while pressing for more power. Hopefully this answered your question.

Great topic and great message. I’ve been a long time believer that physical activity can help build a body and immune system that blocks illness, or protects against illness. It also helps mental health which can be an equal deterrent to illness. I think with everything comes balance and it’s important to note that there is no miracle pill or activity which overcomes all things. I have heard a psychiatrist suggest that even in cases where medications are a must, they only tackle approx 60% of the issue. The other 40% must come from the individual, with activity, diet, and other coping skills which stimulate the bodies own natural production of chemicals. Great stuff

Thanks for that added info! You see this in depth day in and day out within individuals who are at their worst. Like you said one thing doesn’t fix every problem, but it feels that we are pressures to take one side verse another in every area of life (religion, political views, and now even health), if only we could begin to understand that all angles provide truths and a combination of let’s say eastern and western medicine could provide us the best opportunity for longevity and quality of life. Thanks again for the post!
