Unchained Melody

A lot of you may recognize this song - the Righteous Brothers' 1965 cover - from the 1990 film "Ghost." Mmm, Patrick Swayze. :-) But, Unchained Melody has been around since 1955, when it was composed by Alex North, with lyrics by Hy Zaret, as a theme for the prison film "Unchained."

It's been a few days since I posted a video for you all. I was so busy at the American Harp Society, Inc. conference in Orlando, meeting lots of great harpists, attending amazing concerts, eating a giant pretzel, and gazing across the grand expanse of the hotel atrium from my surreal balcony. So, here's "Georgia On My Mind," a song written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell.

The music for Moon River was composed by Henry Mancini; the lyrics are by Johnny Mercer. Many of you may remember Audrey Hepburn so beautifully singing it in the 1961 film "Breakfast at Tiffany's." The song has since been recorded by many other artists . . . and now I am playing it for you.

I love this for harp. "Have I Told You Lately" was written and recorded by Van Morrison in 1989. Many people are more familiar with Rod Stewart's 1993 version. But I prefer the original.

Fly Me To the Moon, originally titled "In Other Words," was written by Bart Howard in 1954. Although Frank Sinatra's 1964 version is probably the most well known, the first recording of the song was made in 1954 by Kaye Ballard. This is my own arrangement for Celtic harp. In the video, I am wearing a dress I bought at a consignment shop for $1.00! Don't you love a good find?
