  • @micklariviere
    @micklariviere 23 дня назад

    Isn't the Rubicon's power and torque in the lower RPM range? Revving it up so high for that long isn't the best way with that ATV. You hit the rev limiter several times. It sounds like you're killing it for no reason. - IDK - maybe I'm wrong here.

    • @micklariviere
      @micklariviere 23 дня назад

      Oh - I didn't realize you had a passenger on the ATV also - never mind me

    • @viper_offroad
      @viper_offroad 22 дня назад

      @@micklariviere normally, even with a passenger I would rev it a little lower, but in the snow I find keeping the wheels spinning at all times is the most important thing to keep it from bogging down and getting stuck. Especially since I installed the 27” tires I’m running which take enough of the bottom end torque away that in mud, deep sand, or snow it needs a little more rpm to have the same performance as stock as I didn’t do a gear reduction when I went up to the 27’s

    See the light that comes on with high revs . You should not see that running a new engine in. The engine loosens up at about 400 plus miles running in gently, gradually increasing the revs .

    • @viper_offroad
      @viper_offroad Месяц назад

      Yeah after this trip I stopped running it so high until I broke it in. I originally thought it was a shift indicator which is why I’m running it till it hits it in the video, when I got home I read the manual and saw it was a rev warning… oops lol, it’s all good tho I’m at 1500 km now (930 miles) and have been keeping it lower in the revs

    • @gazman3568
      @gazman3568 Месяц назад

      @@viper_offroad You can change that light in the settings. So it doesn't come on til really higher revs as it gets annoying on a long ride. Can recommend remap as it makes bike a lot more eager plus better mpg .

      I’d happily do this trip on the xr150l if it was working, I’ve had to order a new clutch as my xr150l had a catastrophic clutch failure due to a manufacturing defect. Was told it’s a 1 in 10 000 chance of happening by the dealer. Had 86 kms on it at time of failure, hope to have it back by June 7th. (Parts are on back order) from my 86 km review… rides well. Handles great both on and off road. But with my seemingly one off clutch failure I don’t want to recommend for or against the XR as I haven’t had enough time on it yet, but I’d definitely do this trip on it no problem if it was working

    Hows that Rubicon holding up for you? Thinking about buying one Im like 69 want it to snowplow and jobs around the property and maybe some trail riding ,looks like your having a blast lol So what do you think about the machine? Whats your top speed on it? Thank you!

    • @viper_offroad
      @viper_offroad 2 месяца назад

      Its holding up great! 6500 kms (4030 miles) I plowed snow with it all winter and it handled the snow fantastic. On stock tires it will reach about 75kph (50 mph) but I have mine on 27" Kenda Bear Claw EVO's which going off of my GPS speedometer on my phone it will reach 110ish kph (70 mph). For trail riding it is the best quad in Honda's lineup IMO due to it having fully independent suspension so it really soaks up the bumps at any speed. You can go slow and its cushy or you can ride it like a sport quad like I do sometimes and its still cushy lol. I also use it around my place of work sometimes. I've towed my tent trailer that weights about 2200lbs (700lbs over recommended towing capacity of 1500lbs) and it towed it with ease in low range. Overall its a great all purpose machine, handles the trails great, handles utility work great, handles being ridden like a sport quad great. Definitely gets a 5 out of 5 score from me.

    Thanks for the video! Living on a small farm in rural Australia, I was considering a CT110 (dual range) as my first bike. Unfortunately, they're pretty scarce, attract a premium price, and would probably require good mechanical skills to get them / keep them running. A Honda XR150L might be a (better?) option. Would you recommend an XR150L as a first bike? (Primarily for rounding up the sheep, I'd also "learn" to ride on-road).

    • @viper_offroad
      @viper_offroad 3 месяца назад

      You've actually asked the right person as I own both :)! if you can find a ct110 in good condition they are great... but as you've said yes you'll most likely need good mechanical skills to keep them running as they are older - mine is a 1983 so 41 years old but I think you could probably find a newer one then that in Australia given how many the Australian postal service bought - the XR150L definitely handles more like a proper motorcycle where as the CT 110 is more of a offroad moped in how it handles. the XR150L has a Hand Clutch where as the ct110 has a semi automatic transmission so if you want to learn to ride a proper dirt bike/dual sport the XR is definitely the better choice. I've seen some videos here on youtube of people riding the XR pretty aggressively. the ct110 I find tops out around 60 KPH where I've had my XR up to 80 with more left in it if I wanted to push it. for road riding and general farm use the XR is most likely the better choice but with the stock tires it is seriously lacking in soft sand/mud. The CT110 on the other hand is Perfect if basically all your doing is light to medium offroading and very little road use due to the lacking top speed. on slow hilly terrain where your crawling up steep hills and through mud the Low Range Transmission on the ct110 is great but as long as you use different techniques like more speed for hills or are just more carful in mud/sand the XR will go anywhere the ct110 will go even if it takes more time. so in short The CT110 is a great bike but yes your going to need some basic knowledge of small engines and some tools as they are a lot older then the XR150l and the CT tends to handle more like a moped the XR is a newer bike (not sure about Australia but in North America it was just released last year) and therefor *Technically* should be maintaince free at least for a while although stuff can still go wrong. The XR definitely handles more like an actual motorcycle too so it has that going for it also in other words yes Id recommend the XR150l as a first bike. its not so powerful that it will take off and whiskey throttle on you but still has enough power to get up to a decent top speed and it handles great appreciate the comment if you have any other questions just ask :)
