Pie Charts - the 3rd video in the Data Visualization in Cavalry series! Pie charts are essential for working with data, and overall aren't too difficult to make in Cavalry once you know how to dynamically rotate text. This one does require the Accumulator which is a Pro feature, but there's still a lot to learn that you can do with the Starter License Check out the written version of this tutor...

Intro to Cavalry - A guide for motion designers who want to ditch After Effects
Просмотров 39 тыс.2 года назад
Are you a motion designer that's interested in checking out Cavalry, but find it hard to get started? Cavalry is more than just a tool to make weird digital art, and this quick intro will help you get started. The trick is to think in Systems and how to make something Dynamic, rather than just animating linearly. Start by putting a shape into a duplicator, see how connecting a color array chang...

why you dont upload tutorial anymore
Hey
Was this video made in cavalry as well?
Why would a motion designer want to ditch ae? All tools have a use and AE is just simply amazing. Spesh cause you can easily import illustrator and ps files with shapes and layers. Love Cavalry though
MORE!!!!😮
Youre my saver dude
can i bring illustrations from illustrator and animate it in cavalry?
How could I feed the string of the height of each bar into the label field for each bar so that it increases as the bar grows to it's final height (as defined by the value array)?
Too bad there is no Linux port
It has to be square because it's using Golden Ratio proportions (aka "whirling squares"). Those seeking to fall down that Rabbit Hole need only punch that term into the search bar.
Your tutorials are great! Can you please go little slower.
Hey! Your tutorials are great. Can you please make a video on how to build a system for animating math equations and plot their graph. I wanna show the steps to solve a problem. I need to do this frequently and I do it in After Effect. Its very time consuming since I have to do it every time from scratch. Thanks!
This was the best After Effects to Cavalry tutorial I've ever seen. You have a similar pace to Ben Marriott which I love. To the point and no bs. Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial, it was the perfect kick off to my Cavalry journey!
Great! Can you also use the Accumulator on text? So the characters have a random or staggered width, but the spacing between them remains the same?
Nice, is your duplicator script/plugin compatible with Cavalry 2.0 or above?
yes it's compatible with the current version. I am also working on an update to that to make it better, as well as updates to my Cavalry Asset Library plugin that should be releasing in the next few months hopefully
subscribed! Great content!
Wow. Outstanding work
Thanks! This is great!
mending cavalry atau davinci resolve ya untuk mograph?
was this done with Cavalry? am a graphic designer i want a software where i can get my logos to move, motion graphics something like that, but free softwre
Some of these are Cavalry and some are in AE. I need to update my reel though because I haven't used After Effects in ages and basically exclusively use Cavalry now. Cavalry is great and does have a well featured free tier, you should check it out!
Does Calvalry support video or image files on the project scene?
On the current version, Yes
Please continue this series man
Been burnt out a bit, but I'm hoping to get back to making videos soon! Thanks for watching
hmmm, not really an attractive feature to be honest for me to even consider ditching after effects, heavy after effects users like me won't even bother themselves with calvary for now, maybe few years more. also the integration and workflow between illustrator, Photoshop, Cinema4D and after effects can't be beaten for now.

Rotate type on a circular path ?
Pacing of the video is a bit fast, try slowing it down just a tiny bit. Especially since its an informational sort of tutorial video. Other than that, very nice job, thank you.
i try to use color array for these object duplicator [point] --> submesh --> path offset - stagger, not work
Does cavalry work on low end pc like 6 gb ram 1080 nvidia 4 gb graphic memory
The problem with cavalry is nobody knows how to make a tutorial explaining things from the beginning. Cavalry needs to put out real tutorials if they want people to switch over from after effects. After effects has amazing tutorials… While cavalries tutorials are in desperate need of somebody who knows how to teach
This is the same challenge I am seeing, Cavalry doesn't have real teacher, All It has are random tutorials teaching people as though Cavalry has existed for centuries.
Nobody can follow your video… It sucks! Is there some purpose to this other than an advertisement for the program??
I'm trying to use the program and I just wish they had keyframes work the same way with after effects like just having to click the dot to add it instead of all this dragging
I don't know, keyframes have solid roots in animation for a reason, I don't know when they become a limit and why a more mathematical should be better. Maybe a nice integration
Can edit bitmap file??
Will Excel linking be supported? That would be great as I don't generally use Google sheets and many organizations favor Microsoft Office over Google for security reasons. Plus Sheets sucks compared to Excel. Oh, and nice video. Makes me want to try Calvary.
In the latest beta (2.2b5) there's now an option for importing office 365 stuff. So presumably within the next few months it should be pushed to the stable version.
Looks pretty cool! Would you be able to attach a video to the shapes in this program so it could have duplicates of that video flying around in 3D space? Or is there a better AE alternative for that?
Thank you, Elliot. Amazing tutorial, although I had to watch on 0.5 speed as I felt a bit dizzy due to quick zooming in and out into different parts of the UI. We need more of data viz tutorials, please. (It's where Cavalry shines IMO)
Thanks for the overview. I've seen some TouchDesigner videos. And it seems to be a great software. But also hard to learn. What would you say about the comparison between TouchDesigner and Cavalry?
I don't really know what TouchDesigner is so I can't really speak to that at the moment.
@@ElliotMosher OK, thanks for the reply. Probably I will install both free versions. I couldn't find a comparison of the two programs. Although you can make similarly crazy animations with both. TouchDesigner is purely node-based.
The lack of keyframes puts me off, I was hoping it was basically just gonna be a free / cheaper alternative to AE 💔
There are keyframes in Cavalry. In terms of 'motion design' (not vfx or compositing) it can do pretty much After Effects can. I was more focusing on what Cavalry can do that AE can't do. In my opinion it's much more powerful, and being able to do things without having to keyframe everything makes things much more flexible. You should definitely try out the free version if you are at all interested.
Thanks I'll check it out in that case!@@ElliotMosher
Keep the Cavalry lessons coming. You're one of very few in the niche compared to AE, which I'll never be able to afford
Hoping to see more of these videos soon!
Awesome tutorials to get into Cavalry - thank you! I'm a motion designer and After Effects is my home lol. But I'm fascinate of Cavalry right now and I'm asking myself, if there is good way to combine the strength of both. Do you have an efficient workflow, which you may share? Or is it just like rendering a png-sequence and import it into AE?
Really feels like this would benefit from being node based.
It's like... almost node based, and I know there's been a lot of talk about that and the devs have thought about it as well. I think last I heard was that some of the ways things can be connected are hard to show coherently in a 'node' environment. It might go that way in the future, but I don't really know tons about that
Thanks for all this! The align on the accumulator really helped me out!
This is great!
You are doing great bro
Excellent
The oudio is kind of broken for me
yeah, back then my audio recording setup was not the best. The newer tutorials should have better audio.
I love my keyframes and curves too much
You can totally still use keyframes and curves in Cav! You just also have access to the more procedural way of working which can make certain setups easier. But I do agree that sometimes you need that custom touch on the easing
Good to know!@@ElliotMosher
GREAT!!!
I thought I recognised him from somewhere 😂
Haha yeah, happy accident for sure
