Welcome to my woodworking channel. Yes, another woodworking channel. Why in the world do we need yet another RUclips channel devoted to woodworking?
Because I believe there are a lot of people who love woodworking and are developing their skills via RUclips videos. My hope is that together we can progress to become the skilled craftsmen we long to be.
I hope you join me for the journey.

CNC Cart P1 - Build Only No Talking

CNC Cart Part 1 - Build Only, No Talking. In order to upgrade my Shapeoko CNC from XL (2'x4') to an XXL (4'x4') I need to make a larger home for it. Luckily I was able to salvage a rolling base and countertop from the office remodel where I work. This video shows the cabinet body construction. Future additions will include drawers and doors, and an enclosure on top. Leave a comment below if you...

Flag Plaque - Start to Finish
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
HFD Flag Plaque - Start to Finish Here are the tools used on the CNC. I start with a .125” end mill (Nomad Tools #102) for the stripes, then change to a .063” end mill (Nomad Tools #112) for the skyline and other tiny detail cuts. The bulk of the rest (stars, shield, text, etc.) is cut using a .5” 60 deg V bit (Nomad Tools #302). Finally, the center leaves are cut with a .25” 30 deg V bit (Aman...
Thanks for the video. I'm about to install both Bit Setter and Bit Zero. As an old-time electronics tech, I'm worried about putting that added connector board inside the housing with no additional insulation to keep it out of random contact mischief with the main PCB. Since it doesn't seem to contain any active devices in need of cooling, I'll probably mummify it with black tape first.
That's probably a good idea. However, you may want to wrap it in a layer of bubble wrap or clear plastic first in case you ever need to remove the back electrical tape.
Is there a link for the splitter that allows you to use both setter and zero I don’t have one and need to purchase one unless anyone knows a different way to use both
Everything I needed for the install came with the BitSetter. I suggest you contact support at Carbide 3D. They should be able to send you one.
love it❤ great job.
question my z _axis keeps goin deep in the wasteboard..do i need to level the bitsetter the same height as the material im cuttin ...my bitsetter sits aboit
question sir, why is my z-axis milling past the 3/4' material i set ...almost 1/4 deeper
I recently bought my first CNC (Shapeoko 3 XXL) used, and it has a BitSetter installed but I’ve been using the touch plate to probe for Z zero every time. I knew the BitSetter had to be more useful … thanks!!
How did you get bitsetter to work with VCarve Pro?
I use Carbide Create and Carbide Motion. I've not tried using the bit setter with VCarve Pro.
Thank you so much for this video
Anyone have video or installation procedures for the new rectangular Shapeoko 4 Bit Setter? I received from Carbide and it came without parts list and instructions. I think I may be missing parts?? I have a Shapeoko XXL Pro and can't figure out how to mount it to the frame - it's totally different than the V2. Any help would be great, Thanks!!
I would like to see a detailed video.
5:36 we all know that inevitable circumstance 😁😁😁
Thanks for the video. Yes "clear all off sets" that's where I screwed up. Great detailed explanation of the bitsetter set up and correct work flow.
Yes, it’s important to follow all the instructions in order and not skip them. I learned the hard way, but that’s part of the process as well.
"Making sure to have your hands in the way" hahahha great sense of humor 👍 Thank you for posting this video.
Funny how much longer everything takes when you record your work.
Nice good info👍👍
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Definitely would like to see how to optimize in carbide create
Fantastic video. You definitely should be doing more how to tutorial videos!
Ok YOU SOR are absolutely AWESOME!!! I could not at all find any info how to install this once a T-Trac table had been installed! You Rock!!! 🙏🏼
Wow, thanks for the kind words. I love the T-track. In fact, I just upgraded my machine to an XXL and installed a larder t-track system again.
Really cool use of salvaged material throughout! I have been restraining myself from buying a CNC for about a year. Learning the shapeko is modular is going to make that considerably more difficult! Thank you!
Thanks for watching the video and commenting! The modularity is one of the main things that drew me to the Shapeoko. I wasn't certain I'd like it as much as I discovered I do, and didn't want to sink quite as much money as the XXL costs. Plus I was debating which to get between the CNC or a laser engraver. But then I learned that a diode laser can be added to the CNC and the decision was made!
Nice Air Compressor. I'm sure the little lady will appreciate that...:D. Thanks for the product review.
Yes, she can’t even hear the new one running inside the house. I especially like it because I don’t jump outta my shoes when this one kicks on.
Nice job. Yes, a video on optimized tool paths is a great idea.
I'm about to publish a video on my new quiet air compressor. Then I'll start working on the optimized tool path video. Expect it in about a week. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the views.
Beautiful piece and for a good cause. I'd be interested in seeing how you optimize your passes. I make plaques for my Air Force unit from time to time and recently ordered a Shapeoko to help out. Thanks!
Thanks for watching my video and posting a comment. And glad you liked the design. Look for an upcoming video on how I optimize toolpaths using Carbide Create.
It's tough to tell, but at around 2:00 are you using the head of the screws to secure the BitSetter to the frame?
The BitSetter has a slot that drops over the front rail. Yes, the set screws secure the BitSetter to the frame and keep it from moving around.
Nice work TB. My prays go out to Tommy's family.
Thanks B. I'm sure the family appreciates the prayers.
Nice Job Terry! Thank you for supporting our HFD family.
Thanks Chris! My dad was a firefighter and I have many memories of hanging out at the fire station. Coldest Dr. Peppers in town! I'm always happy to help whenever they call.
Thank you for posting this. Exactly what I needed.
Glad you liked the video and found the information useful. Please feel free to request topics that you’d like to see!
Nice Cart. Can't wait to see it with the drawers and doors installed. Nice werk!!!
Thanks B! I’m eager for some down time on the CNC so I can do the upgrade.
"I'm ambidextrous so i can be ineffective with both hands". After I stopped laughing I was able to watch the remainder of the video. Nice werk TB.
Heh. I tried to inject a little humor into what turned out to be a pretty monotone voice over. Need to work on using a more animated speaking tone. Glad you liked it.
Hey terry. I’m glad you’re getting going on you’re channel. I’m impressed that you already have as many subs as I do after over a year. I subscribed to your Chanel and wish you the best. It looks like you’re shop is coming along nicely. Very cool. Check out my garage shop tour. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for sharing. Shop dog, nice touch. .🐕🦺
Tucker is awesome. He was a bit skittish about being up on the work bench, but I didn't want to change the camera setup.
Thank You. Another informative video. Good Stuff. 😁
Great video. Good nfo. ✔
My apologies on the beer comment. I don't think RUclips will have a problem with it, however, just in case...🥃
I'm not selling anything related to Save The World, so no copyright infringement issues that I'm aware of. But if they'd like to sponsor me.....
🍺🍺Nice videos Terry. My boss wishes I had a 40x speed...🤗 Nice project. Love the CNC. 👀
I wish I could make stuff as fast as the videos make it appear I can. Of course I edit out all the down time looking for the thing I just had in my hand! :-)
🍻🍻From humble beginnings. Can't wait to see where you take this. Hi TB its B. Like the vids. 👍👍. Love ya brother. 😜
Thanks! The videos are fun to make, but really slow down the woodworking production. Back at cha' bro!
Nice. Although your background is impressive. I'm more interested in drinking some of that, "Save The World" beer...:D Jk. I can't wait to see what you do next. Thanks.
I love Save The World Brewery in Marble Falls. Everything they brew is Belgian style, which is my favorite. Need to get back there and enjoy the place again.
Are you on Facebook?? Are you in the Shapeoko groups. It's a fantastic community. I ever run a related group for Carveco software. Check us out. facebook.com/groups/595634551185458/?ref=share
Yes, I'm on Facebook (facebook.com/BoxCrafted) I'm also in the Shapeoko and Nomad Users Group (Unofficial) (facebook.com/groups/unofficialshapeoko) I also have a website (www.boxcrafted.com) - Still working on it I still use Carbide Create as I mostly do 2D and 2.5D projects. I've been interested in V Carve, but wow it's expensive. I will check out Your Carveco group. I'm hearing good things about that package.
I really like your videos. I was a professional woodworker from 1991-2012. A accident changed that. June 2019 I bought a Shapeoko XXL and got back into woodworking. I plan on starting a RUclips channel very soon. It is nice to see someone else start from the beginning. You are very inspiring.
Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I have weeks of material waiting for me to edit, but I'm staying so busy with projects and work that it's hard to find time to edit.
You’re welcome!
🍻🍺👌
Great video - and very detailed. Thanks!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Terry, just subscribed. Glad to be here from the start 👍🏻🇬🇧
Thanks for subscribing Wayne! I hope you find the channel informative. Please don't hesitate to suggest topics to cover.
I think shop organisation and shop builds tend to do well on RUclips, other than that just original content which is easier said than done. Cheers 🍻
@@wayneblythe5713 Thanks for the feedback. I was surprised that folks have watched this video as much as they have. I've recorded a number of projects that I plan to release weekly. That is if I can find time to edit. My real job keeps me super busy.
Box Crafted looking forward to them Terry, don’t work too hard. 👍🏻
Good Stuff!
Chris Simonton, thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Awesome job! Thank you very much!
Jamie Jackson, glad you liked it. And thanks for pointing out the issue with our previous flags.
I understand why you cover the back with paper and tape for painting... but why 2 pieces of paper?
It’s one and a half pieces. The flags are too large for one sheet of letter sized paper so I cut them in half. This just saves on tape.
Box Crafted Ahhhh.. gotcha. Thanks!
Awesome workflow! Wish I could get my process down that well! 👍🏻
Thank you. It probably only looks that way because the video is sped up so much.
you can still set Z zero on the 60/90 deg v using the Bit Zero. Even though there isn't a v bit option, just pull up an 1/8 end and zero as you would an endmill. All the program is doing is completing a ground loop thru the bit to trigger the grbl board. Wasn't sure what the reference is to the drafting rule though ?
I didn't want to dull the tip of the v-bit against the metal of the Bit Zero. But that's a moot point as I now have a Bit Setter and it doesn't give you an option to skip measuring for individual bits. I used the drafting ruler to make sure where I touched off for zero would be over a star. Just making sure that I didn't put a mark in between the stars. Yeah, overly cautious.
