I don't know about what the books said, but I don't understand why people think Dumbledore didn't care about Harry in this scene. He knew it was of the most importance that Riddle be defeated. He was willing to sacrifice Harry, but also himself to make sure that happened. Also, I have a feeling Dumbledore knew Harry would be able to go back

As a gay man, when I found out Dumbledore was gay, it brought another full set of emotions while watching this scene. Dumbledore was so epic and powerful. Life goals.

Snape didn't choose a side, really. He chose revenge for Lilly. His lack of fully committing to either side is why he was able to do the things he did. That being said, he is the unsung hero and one of my favorite characters, both in the books and movies.

Remember, Voldemort was at his prime and fully focused on killing Harry and possibly Dumbledore too, while Dumbledore was aging old man, trying to hold off Voldemort til minister of magic arrived, at the same time also protecting Harry from Voldemort.

A dark idea to think about is that by this time Harry didn't know the sectumsempra spell (that he learns next year) and he absolutely would've done that instead of the killing curse because he did attempt to use it against Snape; so he'd definitely use it in the emotional state he was in.
